Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
There is a mail id given in the manual mail all the issues there with relevant documents and also register complaint on the toll free number. Twitter amd fb is another wayOriginally posted by aniD400 View PostHi Guys.. I'm having a starting problem with my dominar. I've given it to service centres multiple times. Everytime they give a different reason and say they've sorted it out but It's still not sorted out. Is there any way i can escalate this to higher authority in bajaj so that it gets sorted for real.
Thanks a lot.
And plz explain the issue little more seems like a battery issue could be possible that the battery is unable to hold the charge and needs replacing. There is no logic behind the 10tr fuel stuff i have been topping it up to the inner brim since the day one, mine is from the very first day of the commencement of the delivery of Dominar in Jan 2017.Originally posted by Gary24 View PostI went to the service center and I have also visited the showroom today to talk to the service engineer who gets the vehicles ready for delivery....he examined the vehicle for any leaks he couldn't find any... he told me to fill only 10 liters of petrol ... this is what they always recommend Dominar and avenger owners... then I went to the service center for two things one for the leak problem and the other is the service notification on the main display unit.... The service engineer has examined the vehicle and cleaned the area inside the fuel tank... he also showed me the pipe from where the excess fuel or evaporated fuel come out..he said it would be that... he want me to observe again for a few days... as by this time the fuel has come down a bit.... lets hope when I park my vehile today ..hope drops won't appear... but I don't understand what if I am on a long tour and I need to fill my tank ...do I need to fill half tank...that's ridiculous... the service engineer promised me that he will take care of it and will rectify... ghee+ sugar in his mouth if this happens.. Speed breaker is a nightmare for me now... I slow down my bike and then pick-up .. one way its good .. people thinking I am following road rules to the most...
For the oil drop stuff and speed breaker , it is always good to slow down before the bump but now you have mentioned it i suggest keep an eye on both the front forks and the rear one too for any oil leakage.
When you park your bike keep some paper under the all possible areas like forks and bottom of the engine to see clearly where it drops if it drops.
And the other thing which comes to my mind is that this could only be the exess chain lube dropping on the ground if you have lubed it recently before the day u spot the oil and is pretty normal.
Get the front sproket cover opened up and see if there is too much chain lube there.
On this one of the bolt holding the sprocket cover in place is shared with the engine so do not start the engine when it is open and also see if the oil has come from there.
All of this is when and if you spot the oil drop again.

The problem is that after the bike is warm it struggles to switch on. And after it's in heavy traffic, it Just refuses to switch on(the engine cranks though). It takes 5-6 tries before it switches on and that too only after giving a little throttle.

Will try these and hope I can find the source of the oil leak ... don't know guys .. my luck with new and favorite things never work...and this is another case to prove it...Originally posted by Ijs View PostThere is a mail id given in the manual mail all the issues there with relevant documents and also register complaint on the toll free number. Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Yes exactly , playing with engine oil grades is a bad thing to do. And the biggest mistake most guys do is that the switch oil grades without properly flushing the old oil.Originally posted by Vipergts07 View PostActually the number before W too shouldn't be played with either unless ambient temps allow. Affects cold starts. Viscosity is substantially less of W40 compared to a W50.
Engineers put so much r&d and time and effort in determining the perfect blend and grade and we all became engineer by ourselves in one day ,( yaar mere dost ne bola woh oil daal mast hai) i am hearing this a lot lately.
I am always against playing with oil grades , trying a different brand is ok, i had avery long conversation on this matter with one top engineer of a reputed brand and he also told me the same thing.
He said the temperature rating should only be played with in case of very drastic change in weather, the engine is designed and engineered to be run with stock stuff in almost every condition.Ok , sorry i skipped your older post(if any), yes on the warm engine it does needs throttle with the self in summers for mee too but it never fail to start. I have experienced this that when i rode the bike in hot weather and engine is hot and i stop on signal and than try to start it sometimes it needs throttle so i always use lil throttle with self in such case. And i had a disscusion on this with our area engineer he told me tha it happens due to vapour lock in the tank and giving throttle should help( since the pipe/exit from where the gases created in the tank travel to the evap unit is very small sometimes it results in vapours lock.Originally posted by aniD400 View PostThanks a lot for the email.

Now in your case if ur facing issue even with throttle than ask them to try it without the evap unit for a day , possibilities are that the exit is choked(needs cleaning or replacement of pipe) or the evap unit's charcoal canister is faulty or the purge valve is faulty(needs replacing). Purge valve is the thing which controls the amount of vapours purged from the evap canister.
First thing is ecu reflash to latest one if not already done.
Ask them to change the purge valve and see if help(it will is what i believe) and get all the pipes going out of the tank which are overflow, vapour pipe and the water drain pipe checked and cleaned up.
And do open the tank after a hot ride before restarting the bike for now.
And do shoot a mail to bajaj.Last edited by Ijs; 12-13-2018, 12:12 AM.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
IMHO while installing any extra electrical accessory it is always better to use relay and proper fuse. By doing so you are avoiding the risk of overloading the existing wiring of the bike. It is very simple. You can tap power directly from the battery to the charger through a relay. And the relay can be triggered from the ignition. Since current required to trigger a relay is very small (hardly in miliAmps) it will not effect the existing wiring.Originally posted by TheQuarterMile View PostI was thinking about connecting the charger to the rear tail light connector.. Less headache compared to opening the headlight assembly. What do you suggest?
Hope it helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will look into. Do you have any circuit diagram for the relay wiring?Originally posted by DJD View PostIMHO while installing any extra electrical accessory it is always better to use relay and proper fuse. Any harm connecting the Anode of charger directly to ignition switch wire?Originally posted by DJD View PostIMHO while installing any extra electrical accessory it is always better to use relay and proper fuse. Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Has anyone tried using the foam based grip?
Reason for asking : it is cheaper and better alternative to rubber grips since it mutes the vibrations if any. Also they provide a much reduced burden on the clinched fist and helps reduce the strain.
PS - I'm a prospective owner of Dominar(2019 model) and currently riding the younger brother P220.Regards,

I have been also planning for this mod from last couple of weeks. Unfortunately no ktm centers have this in stock...still waiting..Originally posted by Throttlefreak View PostFor all those who were asking. I will be replacing the stock handlebar grips with grips of the old gen 390 ones. These are really good and made of thick rubber. Cost is Rs. 175
Also Please share pics post fixing

Its the slipper clutch mostly.. Usually we get a kind of resistance some times wen downshifting suddenlyOriginally posted by Throttlefreak View PostI have been noticing a slight tug on the clutch cable if I shift down the gears at slightly higher speeds for eg. From 4th to 3rd at 50kmph anyone who can tell why it may be happening?

Please see the diagram below:Originally posted by TheQuarterMile View PostThanks for the suggestion. Will look into. Do you have any circuit diagram for the relay wiring?
The pin number 85 can be connected to any +ve terminal which gets charged as soon as ignition is on.
