Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hi All. Probably now I see Dominar around Bangalore very often. 1 year 10Months, 17K KMs for my Bike still Good. Now I hear squeeking sound near chain sprocket. Is it time to replace chain sprocket? I do lube every 500-700Km.

That's a good one for a stock mirror.Originally posted by Abhii97 View PostHi , My bike is completely stock , The new 2019 dominar has revised mirrors and they dont vibrate at all and gives good visibility
Anyone, has any idea on the price and availability of these new RVMs in Bajaj spare stores?

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hi All
Even I got the new UG Dominar . It's been 400 km now. It's a great bike in terms of power Delivery . So far so good . Have few issues sharing the same . Any one with the same problems can help me out if you have found the solution
1 . Gear shift - Noise on first and second to third
2 . Back break - Not worth (just gives a screening noise)
3. Fuel indicator warning comes on early and goes off in between , then reappear's
4 . The kM left to service warning shows up as 42 km left where as there is still 90 odd km for me to touch 500 . Which is supposed to be the first service

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hi ,The service indicator blinks at 450kms on the odo .But the manual says 500-750kms .So dont worry , U can get the bike serviced at around 500 kms . I got mine done at 650 kms and the indicator has been reset.

I had inquired and what I've been told is that the part numbers are not yet available and it will take at-least another two months to get those in stock..
Though the SVC mentioned that it can be put on older models as well.. I thought that the front brake oil unit will interfere.. Any idea guys?

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
I think the mirrors are not interchangeable since the mounts are different on the new dominar.
Here's a video explaining that, jump to 8:14Originally posted by ginzon View PostI had inquired and what I've been told is that the part numbers are not yet available and it will take at-least another two months to get those in stock..

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Thank you . I spoke to the dealer . He said the same. The gears any solution for that . Especially the 0 -1 , 2-3 is hard and makes a clicking noise. And the back brake is useless.Originally posted by Abhii97 View PostHi ,The service indicator blinks at 450kms on the odo .But the manual says 500-750kms .So dont worry , U can get the bike serviced at around 500 kms . I have informed the dealer in Coimbatore . He said they will have a taroug check during first service .sigpic

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
The gears get smoother after the first service , also try shifting above 4 k usually the shifts are smooth and the clicking noise im assuming that you are referring to the “clunk” during gear shifts they also are not present when you shift at a higher rpm
About the 0-1 its present on my bike even after the service and Svc said it common on all bikes. So still searching for a solution
Rear brakes , the bite actually decreased after service and the Mechanic said its like that only . I argued with him saying that the older dominar had better back brakes. Still did not recieve a proper reply
Total bill came to 1384 rs including chain lube , oil filter and 1.7l oil and coolant top up

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
The clunk sound when shifting to 1st gear was also present in my 2015 duke 390 (ran 50k kms). The SVC guys mentioned this was due to the high compression engine and was present in most performance bikes. The gearbox has become smooth after the first service and it should be even smoother once you find the sweet spot.
The rear brakes are bad, but my friend who owns an older dom mentioned that its better than what he had in his bike.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
In my opinion It's the rear tyre stock rubber which don't do the job in breaking because recently I changed my rear tyre to Michelin pilot Street and the difference was huge, also switching to steel braided cable will add another 5%additional breaking effect as it is very less to expand during braking..

Superb machine.!!!
Initially u all complain about milage but actual fact is, if you are coming from a 125-150cc carburetor bike, it gets time to adjust with FI and power management.
If u ride without seeing speedometer and just by feel, bike ll fool you, be surprised to see yourself speeding (15-20% higher)in highways or in mild city traffic.
In my case i did 100kmph+ cornering In highways. found myself zapping at 70- 80kmph in city limits.
Experienced on the way all U- turn approaching auto rekshaws, two wheelers feared to attempt crossing (earlier I used to get compromise myself and break in my p150 and allow them to cross)
Oncoming vehicles (including inter city buses) used go their left most side during my cornering in two lane highways (even though I was in the middle of my lane)
Same with the upcoming pedestrians, they just got down from roads (some childrens got stunned)
Found myself scrapping silencer in some hair pin bends.
All these where with pillion and she also not had any clue about speeding.she is a music lover.
After all these I just ptacticed watching speedometer regularly and smoother wrist moment to avoid sudden acceleration which was panicking pedestrians in city, which resulted in good milage and clam riding habit.(which took almost 10k kms to override/satisfy the urge to conrner and speed god mode).
Discomforts
Need to shift 1st gear frequently for big speed breaker or below 19kmph
Slow speed cornering needs skill( <50kmph)
Turning radius is more, affects off-road maneuvering.
Bike is smoothest in 70-80kmph
Above 85kmph vibs felt@ foot peg, tank, handle bars but livable.
Above 95 kmph vibe frequency changes which feels better compared to 90kmph.
Fuel economy with pillion+minor luggage can be achieved only @85- 90kmph in highways.(if single it may go upto 100)
In city or local riding u can gain milage by riding at 65-70kmph ( 6th gear supposed to be engaged above 69kmph as per bike manual)
In a straight road it can cruise at 65kmph and will return 34milage(I don't recommend)
Golden rims are headache to clean and maintain.
Chain cleaning and lubing is compulsory.(500-600km interval for highway,300-400km for dusty city/rural roads)
I found tubicore 205 graphite chain spray useful.(thanks to sahyadri moto, now I can at least clean it @ any local shop without any worry)
{Gear oil also works well in highways}
ABS is a life saver, bike comes to 0 from tripple speed within time and straight line stability is very good. but then only if your tyres are in good condition(invest in good tyres after stock one lasts).if u want(for off roading) , Disable ABS by removing fuse underneath rider seat(this make bike speedometer dead). While abs kicks-in some harsh pulsating feel at hand and leg felt, which claims to be normal.ABS warning light in secondary display should go off once bike reaches just 4kmph speed.. if remains for higher speed get it checked.
Slipper clutch presence u all appreciate in those ghat section twists and hair pin bends
LED headlights very usable only in 4 lane highways, I recommend aux lights for better visibility in hilly , single roads
I recommend all to ride in pilot lights ON mode so even in AHO u can change to low beam during day time.
Fuel guage- if you are riding continuously consider one less bar left for correct fuel analysis or just switch off and on the ignition key once.(no need to hold the clutch, but try it in straight road when u have enough momentum and no traffic).
In my bike first bar drops at 55km, 2nd at 100km in highways.
For better braking results go for steel braided tubes and also change pads to EBC make.
Use 70(front)-30%(back) breaking technique for better breaking.
Proper clutch play gives smoother gear shifting except 1st gear.
Moment of Power loss during acceleration after a gear change is quite common in sunny days. Just open and close the fuel lid before starting.(always try to park in shades)
Don't turn off engine after long run when fan is still running, wait for 10-15sec and then turn off.(this can be sensed only by sound)
During cold start keep bike idle (without rising acceleration ) for 15-20sec to achieve good oil circulation and engine warm up which ensures smoother engine.
Heat felt at legs is common in sunny days, to avoid it plan your city ride to non peak hours if possible.Don't fill coolant to max level at cold conditions. The sight glass shows is a expansion chamber and 50% -70% is the ideal level which ll turn into full once the bike runs for more than 10mins. And it's normal(hot condition).
That's all from my side..
Keep riding safe..
Thank u.
