  • Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread

    3 week update:

    1. Bike seems to have become more vibey in the 4500 rpm to 5000 rpm range. Either that or perhaps I am getting more comfortable with the bike and been taking it upto those rpms more often.
    2. Suspension is extremely hard and I shall get it softened in the first service. As of now even extremely small bumps are more than noticeable.
    3. I am yet to find my most appropriate seating position on the bike. The straight handlebars but leaned over position though not uncomfortable will still take some getting used to. At 6 ft tall I was extremely at home on the NS.
    4. I like the fact that you can simply release the clutch in first gear and the bike rolls off the line without any throttle input. This is a lot like the Duke 390.
    5. Getting loads of attention despite the dark colour which is not such an attention grabbing colour. The LEDs are generally what makes people do a double take.
    6. Finally getting used to the weight of the bike. It was always flickable but I was a bit apprehensive during u turns and tilts earlier. Now I feel more confident.
    7. I have realised that upon starting the bike the throttle blips itself to 2000 rpms for half a second and settles back within the 1500 rpm range. I have seen this feature in expensive sportsbikes and kinda like these small touches Bajaj has given.
    8. I mostly ride after office at night along with my wife and she seems comfortable within city limits. Recently took an extremely steep ramp (at least 50 degrees angle) to come out of a basement parking with my wife and the bike did not feel stressed at all.

On a separate note saw a plum coloured Dominar overtake me yesterday on a busy patch. Would have liked to ride with the guy or at least approach him but he was cutting through traffic as if his life depended on it, so let him go. Feels strange watching such a heavy bike being chucked mercilessly through traffic. But then to each his own.

I dint understand one thing when most of its torque kicks in at 3000rpm.. why is there vibration at 4500 rpm. Any expert advice would be appreciated.

If the peak torque comes up at 3000 RPM, doesn't mean it ended there.
And, different parts resonate at different frequencies. Example - my bike's left mirror will vibe only at a specific 6500 RPM, anything less or higher, it doesn't create any noise.

          Regards.

not sure but might be about 12-15 thousand for good quality. But i would suggest you to go for wraps as they are good and removable when not in need and stock orignal paint will be there for saferside

Finally took delivery of my White beast yesterday.. Clocked 100 kms (couldn't resist ).. I wanna share a few complaints about the bike and need your opinions on it..
                        1. Bike slowly pulls towards left after 50 if you take your hands off the handlebar. Tyre pressure are perfect, filled it to 28F and 32R as suggested by Showroom guys..
                        2. Feels slightly sluggish around 2k rpm, struggles to pull from 50 in 6th gear, or any gear for that matter.. I have to shift down and keep the revs above 2.5k-3k to keep the engine smooth.

Apart from the above complaints, the bike is absolutely fantastic..
                        Any suggestions is welcome..
                        Thanks in advance..

                        Hi,
My roommate owns a Hornet and I have ridden it a lot, so I think I can answer your question.. The hornet feels heavy at the front unlike Dominar which is well balanced even for such a heavy bike.. The big tires are confidence inspiring, and the usual corners I take on the way to my office, I can turn in Dominar at higher speed when compared to Hornet..
                        Hope this helps..
Regarding the pulling to left, check if your forks are tightened a little more, this can indeed happen even from the factory. This information should be passed on to the service center folks during your periodic service and make sure they rectified. Check for steering play, and make sure it's mentioned in the job card.

I know this is OT, but can anyone suggest a good white helmet in the price range of 4k-5k??
Check this thread for more info

this is the proper way to check oil level. Have a small round around the block or set it to idle for a minute shut off the engine wait for a minute now hold the bike straight and check the oil level . This way it would show the correct level and if you check on cold engine the level is always low I tried that on my D400.

@PDEBANSHI this is the oil used at service by svc here in Delhi and it is by Total and is as good as motul.
Beautiful. And appreciate you posting photo. The earlier DTSi 10,000 were Semi-Synthetic made by Hindustan Petroleum, and the 10,000 KM drain interval is nothing but farce statement to be taken, unless of course the bike is ridden at 10 KMPH inside ones home doing roundabouts to your restroom to living room, it perhaps can exceed the set limit. Being TOTAL, I've always had positive experience with their car engine oils. I hope to hear more about this TOTAL-Bajaj 10,000 oil from fellow users. Do keep us abreast, 10,000 oil users.

Ijs, any updates on the oil that you can share would be great. Any differences you've felt from the stock to this (considering this is the same oil that Bajaj uses from Factory)

                        Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                        The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                        THE END

Yes this is the same oil filled at factory level the sa did mention that. I have not done much post my first service so can not comment on the quality of that, but have used total on my car and it was good.
Others who have done more kms on this oil does feel the quality is good and say motul is not needed.
And someone already change to this oil on his ns and he said that it is good.
MRP on the pack is Rs1010/_ and the same was charged in the bill. Pack of 1.5ltrs.

                                Hello All

In my D400, when I usually start my bike I get a sense of burnt fuel from exhaust. It happens on regular basis, does anyone also feel the same ?

                                Thanks
