I have clocked 6700 kms and today I heard sound from rear disc brake. On inspection it felt that shoes/pads are touching the disc. I softly tried to make gap between pad/shoe and the disc using a flat screw driver. Then there was no sound while moving the Tyre. But the sound started coming again after I applied rear brakes again.
I have faced disc brakes issues in old bike but facing such issue in new bike after roughly 7k kms seems odd to me.
Same here. I have done just 3.2k km and can hear the sound already. Really irritating. Also the brake doesn't seem as effective as it was earlier.

Guys, that sound of touching the pads is dust accumulation. Clean your pads, it's a simple 15-20 minute Job. That rubbing sound will go.

Honestly, I don't think it is a problem with the brakes at all. Mostly it's the way people use it.

My FZ25 has done close to 11000 km and there is still more than 60% life left on rear brake pads.

For reference, my 390's brake pads were changed at 19000 kms.

I have Changed Fz25 rear brakes pads twice.. first at 4000km and now at 8000 km.. I use my bike in Pune city.. And more than 50% customers have been complaining about rear disc pads.. If Someone getting more than 5000km from rear brake pads then he is not using rear brakes too much or not facing heavy traffic or may be it is his good luck..Coz at the time of recall,I asked to Service Centre Guy About Rear disc pads and he answered that life of rear disc pads of fz25 is 4 to 4.5 k km in traffic of pune.. U must change rear disc pads at 4k to 4.5k km.. No other options..

I would like to put my opinion on the rear disc brake issue. There are two issues here. First, the rear wheel is larger and thus requires greater force to stop. Second, the rear disc is smaller in size, which results in greater pressure/ square foot. Pretty obvious that the brakepads wear out faster. Adding to that is the fact that the brake lever is slightly elevated, leading to constant touch of the foot. Any other opinion is welcome.

It is most likely the foot touching the pedal constantly in traffic. Use the front brake guys.

Next time you change the rear pads, adjust the position of your foot so that you're not keeping it on the pedal, then see the difference. I'm pretty sure that this is the problem.

If it is just lasting for about 4K to 4.5K KMs then it seems to be a problem with either brake design or pad quality. I have gone through many threads here and lot of people are reporting this problem

I commute close to 60 km daily going from north of Hyderabad to West of Hyderabad with close to 30 kms of heavy traffic.

I use Rear brake only to slow down the vehicle (Speed humps, Before traffic signals) whereas Front for a complete dead halt. SVC guy is absolutely wrong to claim that brake pads only last 4500kms.

As it turned out, rear brake pad wearing out is a known issue and Yamaha has informed service centers about the steps to be taken.

Hi I ride in traffic all through the week. And no abnormal wear. Please do not worry about it :-) Yamaha essentially has said it's wearing because of riding the brake. Not exactly the bikes mistake. I also was riding the brake unknowingly then corrected my habit. I know I can get still more life out of them with better riding practices. Thanks for posting the advisory with specs on it.

Well it's time to either change habit or get the pedal position changed.
