Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
8mm is for one half - 8mm for bottom half of tyre and 8 mm for upper half would make a combined difference of ~1.6cm in ride heightOriginally posted by satish_patil View Post

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Upper part of tyre isn't touching anything right, so only lower side needs to be considered. The increase in height is only between lower part of rim to ground. Above that there is no change.Originally posted by GauravD View Post8mm is for one half - 8mm for bottom half of tyre and 8 mm for upper half would make a combined difference of ~1.6cm in ride heightLast edited by satish_patil; 02-18-2016, 02:25 PM.It's the journey that matters, not the destination.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Hey everyone!
Haven't been online here for a while! Glad to see so many new entrants here.
My bike's been RTRing for exactly 1 year, now!
I have a few questions for you guys.
1) How on earth does everyone manage 30+ and sometimes even 40s on RTRs? Because i did a Full Tank (14L) and I got around 400 kms on this. Was using TVS Mineral engine oil, and bike's completely and utterly stock. I even tried riding sensibly, but it never manages to cross the 30 mark at all. At First, i never bothered. But it's kinda getting on my nerves that my Brother's RC390 manages 24+, and all my Friend's NSes do 30+ easily.
2) Vibrations seem to have gone up, and engine has gone sluggish after shifting to TVS Synth. Is this Normal?
3) The upper yoke, where the RTR180 symbol is, emits an annoying sound. Is there anyway to cut it out? (honestly, I <3 the vibes, but pillions don't enjoy it as much as I do xD )
4) Engine struggles to cross the 11k mark, is this Standard?
Thanks, and Ride Hard!

1) Rtr should give easily above 40 kmpl. Please check your spark plug and check the tuning.Originally posted by darth_vader19 View PostHey everyone!

2) I'd prefer mineral oil or semi synthetic oil like shell Ax7 for the Rtr's. Go to the SVC or a trusted mechanic and get all the nuts and bolts tightened.
3) Could be the fork or cone set. Little more details is appreciated like if you brake hard is there a khat khat sound? Do you feel movement on the handlebars?
4)11k rpm is the higher end. So I would not be worried about it much. If the bike struggles to reach the 9k rpm then I know for sure it can be compression issue or carb issues.Everybody has their own version of TRUTH!!!!!!

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Nope. In fact, vibrations reduced for me after shifting to TRU4 from mineral. Do check your spark plug and confirm if your AFR is right.Originally posted by darth_vader19 View Post

You can resolve this by removing the cover (the part on which the RTR symbol resides) and using double-sided tape on all the contact areas. This works wonders for the vibes, and they reduce significantly. I'm guessing the sound is due to a part that has come loose + the vibration.
3) The upper yoke, where the RTR180 symbol is, emits an annoying sound. Is there anyway to cut it out? (honestly, I <3 the vibes, but pillions don't enjoy it as much as I do xD )
Hope that helped. Other members here should be able to answer your remaining queries.

GAH!
Big big problems with my RTR 180 ABS beast.
Bike Details -
white RTR 180 ABS, Beast model
15 months old , 11k on the odo.
So the problems started with the service in January at the Gachibowli, Hyderabad service center.
first paid service, mentioned the below problems to be fixed -
1) Front brake lacking bite - new Pads obviously
2) Hell a lot of vibrations - new rubbers for the nuts maybe
3) Mileage down to 35 - check the engine
and what was given back to me?
They charged me 2k, acceptable, for the new brake pads and an entire new Sprocket + Chain assemble set as the old one was worn out.
I thought, fair enough, go ahead.
problems started a week later. was on a flyover and i depress my rear brake pedal and bam, the pedal just kept going all the way down without giving the slightest of braking. luckily, avoided panic and got the bike to safety.
I go to the showroom later and they say, ABS problem, needs software update!!
So, i am without the bike for 2 days, and then it comes back with the problem solved apparently?
But no! a week later, same issue, but by now i was prepared for it and luckily wasnt in a crunch situation (praise be to the Lord!) .
also, mileage dropped to 30!! vibrations increased as well.
So, got another round of fixing done 3 days back.
apparently engine nuts were loose, so mileage has improved to 45 now (WTF right? this is my best ever)
Brakes are performing as expected (hope it stays the same)
got Motul 7100 oil, last oil change was 4000 kms back.
Any one else faced a similar issue anytime?
also, planning on going for the MRF Radials REVZ series 120.
worth it ? opinions ?
Does no one here use the Radial on their bike?#Shadowfax Apache RTR 180 ABS - 2014 - 2019

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Buddy AFAIK semi synthetic oils suit our RTR engines more than FS ones. You can go for Motul 5100(my bike is currently on this one) the vibrations are reduced upto say 60%. The bike behaves very smooth.Originally posted by Raman Swaminathan View Post--reposting--

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Hello All,
I have completed 14K+ Kms, My chain sproket set is on the max settings right now and the chain also feels bit loose on the rear sprocket if i pull it with my hand. During last service the SVC guys told me to change whole sprocket and chain set. I dont see any wearing out of sprockets or chain. Will it be fine if i just remove few chain links to tighten up the chain instead of changing the whole set?. What is the optimal period of chain sproket set replacement?

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Chain wear happens when it is subjected to shock, meaning acceleration and deceleration. You can remove one link and ride for now. post a pic of front sprocket.Originally posted by msuthar25 View PostHello All,

I have been using FS from day 1. Was TVS FS initially and then Motul from 5k onwards. TVS Recommend FS for the 180 too.Originally posted by sanjaynk15 View PostBuddy AFAIK semi synthetic oils suit our RTR engines more than FS ones. The vibration from the engine isn't a problem with Motul.
Problem is the rattle from the visor and the turn lights.
Planning on going to a local mechanic and have my visor removed. Might make my bike naked if it works well.#Shadowfax Apache RTR 180 ABS - 2014 - 2019

Just ask the SVC guys to stick a double side sticker sheet between the visor and the instrument panel corners.. I did the same and the vibration is gone now..Last edited by kavb1986; 02-19-2016, 08:44 PM.
