      Well said about proper run-in procedure of a new motorcycle engine.

      Changed engine oil today. Poured in Shell Advance AX7 10W40. Cost 341 INR.
      The Apache is ever willing to red line each cog, but the Rider ain't. Enjoy RTR, Safely. Period.

        i think the mileage im getting now is too low after that 2nd service(no oil change coz i changed the oil recently)...but the bike is abnormally smooth(comparatively less vibrations, smoother gear shifts)....
        any ideas what could be the cause of the mileage drop?
        P.S.
        my usual cruise speed is about 55-60 just occasional bursts of speed(not much)

          Ohhh my god Vishnu!! Wow man! That looks hot! Does it stay on the silencer?? Doesn't it peel off due to heat??

            not yet...and i guess it wont peel off atleast not due to the heat...coz its on the shield and that part doesnt heat up as much as the exhaust( the monster decal i had on the exhaust is now textured--:P heat )

                Bro even my bike has approached the time for an oil change. . Has run a very very satisfying 4500kms with Motul SS 15w50. Yet I'm in a dilemma. Maybe I will go for Valvoline SS 20w40 this time, simply for the fact that I won't be touring much for the coming few months and so I need the engine revs rather than less engine temperature.

                1000kms is no magic odo at which the engine gets set That is exactly why mineral oils should be used atleast till first 5000kms.

                  Yeah.. I guess so. Ever since you said that max gear shifts will help in proper break in, I've been in a fix. Most of my riding is on the highway. Of the 35km I clock daily, 26 are on the highway. How do I solve the gear shiftin problem??

                      Also, can anybody throw some light on why people go for dc conversions? Does dc give some sort of advantage,?

                        RTR 180 (old) has got 35w Halogen bulb (Halonix Brand) and works on 9a.h 12v battery with AC supply. You can use bulbs from Osram or Philips of 35w instead of stock bulb.
                         Now coming to HIDs and Projectors-
                         First of all let me make it clear any HID above 4300k is illegal. Most of the cops must not know it so most users have a set up more than that, and that includes me too. The proof of illegality is Chandigarh police, try roaming around with HIDs on and they will treat you :P
                         Old RTR needs to be converted into DC supply first to use HIDs and Projectors for day long, if not be ready to get new battery every then and now. For help visit this link

                                DC lighting means you have constant flicker free lighting. You need a working battery for DC lighting to work(Like in cars). An AC/DC setup uses AC electricals for lighting and lights work only once the engine is running, battery is not mandatory.
                                Also, HID needs DC electricals to work (not that it cannot be used in AC/DC setup, but like someone said, you'll need to replace the battery every now and then).

                                There is a dedicated thread for DC conversion of the RTR180 (classic ), and I'm running a DC RTR180 for quite some time now. Its a little bit tricky, and if you dont really spend time on it and understand the stock and the changed setups, it could land you in hot water if something goes wrong. (Nothing has gone wrong for me yet, still going solid strong, running 55W HID )
