I haven't used the AX5, but have heard nice reviews of the same. One for example is from Abhii46 an xBhp member and an RTR180 owner. He is an avid tourer. Go through his travelouge just to get an idea.

AX5 will not become watery like Tru4 premium under high temps. I have seen this watery state once while draining it out from my bike at a local garage after some riding. The Mech instantly pointed out the fact (this particular oil was used for less than 1500km at the time it was changed).

Thing is, one need to stick with Tru4 or whatever oil the SVC provides to keep warranty. But some SVC's do accept and use the oil of our choice. But for this we have to be there on service day or some how make sure that they actaully use our oil (Shell Advance AX5 till 5000kms, then AX7).

I'am not saying Tru4 is not good, it is a quality product and is more than sufficient for daily commutes and is sort of OK for touring too. But, there are much better oils out there.

Dude. I did not ask you why you're not using tru4. What I'm saying is that AX5 is a semi-synth oil, while AX5 is a mineral oil. When TVS is recommending a Semi-synth oil why would you go in for AX5 which is mineral. Go in for AX7 which is a semi-synth oil and is one awesome oil.

            Hello Everyone,

Was eagerly waiting for 12-12-12. In few hours, I will be getting my Apache RTR 180 ABS white delivered.
Booked it yesterday at Trijal TVS, Whitefield, Bangalore. On road price after adding accessories, Teflon coating and extended warranty, came to just over Rs 1 Lac.

Any pointers on what all I need to check on the bike at the time of delivery?

Hey uzumaki welcome to the tribe. first off. Take delivery in daylight. Check for scratches on bike. Thoroughly. Second ask if oil has been topped up. Check if chain has been lubricated. Check handlebar freeplay. Brakes and brake fluid. Also check headlamps. Check if highbeam throw is satisfactory, that is, if it illuminates enough of the road ahead of you. If not ask them to set that right. These are problems I faced/ am still facing.

Off topic: are you a naturo fan?

Believe me. I thought I had checked for scratches, till I found some on the next day. It's disappointing. So just to be sure, recheck.

Well I'm a naturo fan too.

                        so which should i choose?
                        my only requirement is
the oil should protect my engine better from high speeds , instant breaking etc.
                        should i go with ax5 or ax7

Before I suggest : instant braking and high speeds WILL damage an engine irrespective of the oil. Avoid them as far as possible. Use only when required.

My suggestion is AX7. Or if you can afford it, the ultra.

Two things regarding this. I faced problems when I was new to xbhp AND this thread. First, the search option pops about a thousand replies, one different from the other. Second : I was relieved upon reading your post, but I didn't know of it when I was new here so I ended up asking.

So, all us tribesmen could do one thing. Whenever a noob introduces himself here, first person to see can post a link to the guidelines. That way all unnecessary questions can be avoided.

                              • @Devesh
Bro, you have ridden less than 2000 km right? Proper and full engine run-in completes at around 5000 km. Till then a mineral oil is highly recommended. It is not as smooth as semi-synthetic ones and helps in proper seating of piston rings with the cylinder wall by providing just the right amount of friction needed.

Now, i won't ever compare TVS Tru4 premium SS (234 INR) with Shell AX7 SS (341 INR) or even the Motul 5100 ester 4T, the most hard core SS engine oil among the lot (495 INR). The AX7 is way more smoother than Tru4 any day and will not help much in running-in the engine.

Use the oil the SVC gives or Shell AX5 till 5000 km, then go for AX7. Please don't even think about Ultra till you complete at least 7000 km. Only proper run-in would ensure that your menace will give optimum performance and fuel economy for years to come.
The Apache is ever willing to red line each cog, but the Rider ain't. Enjoy RTR, Safely. Period.
