      • Ownership Review Apache RTR 180 ABS

        Hi Everybody,
        Warning Long Post
        This is ownership review of Apache RTR 180 ABS. I have brought the bike from century TVS, Wakadewadi Pune on 28 Nov 2012.
        I have brought TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS after two months of torchured mind and countless Test ride on different bike.
        this was my Second choice after Duke 200. I had finalised duke but had to let go due to monetary issues.
        That being said after living with 2 months and 4780 km I'm happy that I bought RTR.

        Purchase EXP.
        Century TVS,Wakadewadi Pune
        showroom staff were ok. On taking delivery of bike i had to wait for 2 hours in showroom since bike has to be brought from warehouse.
        I was able to do the PDI when finally bike arrived at showroom. while doing the PDI I noticed Bike top speed recorded on console was 131kmph.
        Immediately checked the Odo and trip meters,both were same at 11.7 kms which is the distance from showroom to warehouse. After that completed the PDI
        without any issues. As the Bike was in good condition didn't raise the storm on top speed recorded on console. Made the payment and took the bike to home.
        I didn't opt for teflon coating.overall Showroom exp. was nice but could be better.
        Ex Showroom = 86149
        RTO Tax + Reg. charges = 6752
        Insurance charge = 2103
        Smart Card charges = 350
        Grand Total = 95354.

        Ownership EXP.
        First 200 kms- I used factory recommended running in style. Slow gradual increase in rpms till 4000rpm then releasing the throttle.again increase the revs till 4000rpm.
        repeat the process.
        till 500 kms- Repeat above process with revs increase to 5000.

        1st service = 526 kms on 6.12.12
        cost = 340
        Oil = 275 (TVS Oil)
        Oil filter = 65

        After 1st servicing Bike felt Little bit free. After servicising went to 500 km long ride. During this ride i never exceeded the revs above 6000 rpm.same procedure was
        followed as before 500 km running in. During 1st servicing to 2nd service I found this particular problem, whenever the bike is resting for more than 4 hrs, it would give
        feeling of choking for few kms even after warming the bike for 2 min. That feeling disappears after 5 min. after that bike remains normal.
        when the bike crossed 2500 kms, the vibrations increased. Mind you these are not bone shaking vibrations but merely buzzy feeling. Tvs has done remarkable job
        damping the vibes. some vibes are present but they increases the feeling of power within the bike.
        2nd service = 2779 kms on 5.1.13
        Cost = 320
        Oil = 275 (TVS Oil)
        oil filter = 35
        Rubber side panel = 10

        After 2nd sevice the bike felt Somewhat free. It was leaping forward with a ferocity that was lacking earlier and the chocking feeling somewhat disappeard but it was there
        in the morning.
        both the services are done at Samarth TVS near Bharati vidyapeeth, Katraj Pune.As you can see above by the cost of service, how can the price of oil filter get lower from
        65 to 35? I don't know. Also the service done by this service center is pathetic. They dont even have a chain spray with them. I only tolerated them because it is at shouting sistance from where I live.

        Current Odo = 4780 kms. Now the bike is totally free in the sense it goes berserk, that feeling of choking has completely disappeared after a long ride at 4000 kms.

        Ride- Bike feels pretty comfortable for long ride. the suspension soaks up small potholes without transferring the shocks to rider or pillion.

        Handling- It is brilliant in city traffic. I was able to zigzag through gaps that were Not possible earlier. didnt test it in Ghat sections.

        Tyres- Absolute shit. Dont have confidence in them even in dry. As for wet, there is scary incident that i went through, i was riding at 20 kmph. the road was concrete and wet
        from water spilled from tanker. I gave throttle normaly in 2 nd gear as in dry situation. The rear tyre performed glorius burnout and rear side stepped. from that moment I lost
        all the confidence to ride in wet on those tyres. Now I avoid wet patches like plague.

        Brakes- Brakes have sharp bite. Abs is a life saver when the bike unable to stop and would hit the obstacle, I was able to steer away from the obstacle all the while reducing the speed.

        Riding Position- sporty.

        Exhaust Sound - this exhaust give good Bassy sound. It feels like bike is growling. I was sold on RTR due to exhaust soundtrack.

        Seat - Comfortable for rider and pillion albeit pillion suffers vibration from footpegs above 90 kmph.

        Lights- RTR 180 ABS has DC setup. Lights are not enough for the speed it is capable of.

        Mirrors- Clear and stylish. Slightely buzzy at above 100 kmph.

        Milege- 40 to 45 kmpl at 80 to 90 kmph
        30 to 35 kmpl above 90 kmph.
        pertol used 90% from shell petroleum
        Overall
        Bike is a thorough Hooligan. It goads you to ride fast with its Manic acceleration and Growling Soundtrack. The way this bike goes to its top speed needs to be experienced.This bike has a
        personality that is lacking in some bike. Mind you If you are a top speed type guy, dont bother with this bike. You will get better options in market. This bike gives feelings that are not
        explained by words.You will be laughing like crazy inside the helmet when the bike is leaned over in corner at high speed and everything happens perfectly. But there also a danger of going over limit
        and the bike will bite back. this heightens the adreline feeling. I hope I have given due respect to this bike through this review.
        Questions- Can the Lights be upgraded to 60/ 55w bulb? Also how to adjust the beam throw of light. Can any one explain with photos to adjust it. Which better tyres that are available can I change to while keeping tyre size stock?
        Thanks for reading this long post. I'm sorry for the long Post.

            Congrats. By the way, never mind about the recorded speed. Every bike at every showroom are prone to be ripped by the stupid mechs. when I bought mine, Speed recorded was 130 and ODO reading was around 35( And it was the first RTR 180 in my area,and white was not in stock any where), so I eventually got it. Its still a gem after 44K kms....
            Enjoy.....

                    I asked at rajajinagar Tvs for ur rtr160,
                    83,900 with rear disc and 81600 without rear disc. They will give seat cover and grip cover. No Teflon coat, no indicator buzzer, no helmet.

                    I got mine at Tristar Tvs at Domlur they gAve me seat cover and Teflon coating, buzzer and saree guard. Teflon coat itself will cost u 450-500
                    I removed the buzzer and the saree guard

                    Make sure to visit at two three showrooms, compare the accessories and the on road price too. Some give a vega helmet as accessory, which itself costs 1700. be strong in negotiating and tell them if they are okay on ur terms only then you will book with them

                    Tvs finance charges 8% interest on loan add 1500 extra for the processing.

                        You can purchase anywhere where offer price is good, dont worry about service as you can get it serviced in any TVS Service Center.
                        In bangalore, Bridgestone SVC(Dr Rajkumar Road, Rajajinagar) seems to be the best yet.
