No the stock brake lines are made of rubber.
And yes I have changed the stock rubber brake lines to the p220's steel braided ones on my rtr. I had posted the pics on this thread, if you don't find it then tell me ill have to take fresh pics and post.
Its been over 12000km with the steel braided brake lines and no problems so far. There is a very noticeable change in braking and it is worth Rs.1109

Thank you Abhishek94, SusheelKumar for your inputs. I agree about sticking with stock but I feel changing to a steel braided lines will not harm the bike in anyway. I am happy with the braking ability of the bike, however while braking from high speeds the brake feel is not great. I feel better lines would help harness the braking power better. Abhishek, I cant find the thread could you please pm me the procedure, costs etc.
Also I have clocked abt 5000 k on my bike. Is break bleeding needed right now?

Guys, I met with an accident and now the front left side shock slider is bent. Couldn't get it right with a lathe. The mechanic said that it is named something like 'cotton tube'. [Or is it 'Bottom tube?'] Is that part available separately? I queried various outlets and one of them said these parts come separate. If possible can any of you try and get me the price for the part? Also the mechanic says it will be cheaper to buy from chop shops. What are your opinions on this? Should I go with a brand new part or with an extracted one?

evyavan I too had a accident recently which bent one of the front forks. Took it to the service station (TVS Tristar Bangalore) who said it would be better to change the whole front fork assembly. Cost around 8k but most of it was covered by insurance (bike is less than a year old).

That's an issue. We haven't registered a police complaint and hence no question about insurance. Also only that specific part is bent. So I think it will be better if I change that part only.

For the whole left side it will cost INR 1800. But it seems only the slider ( that golden part) is available. Will update after tomorrow as TVS service centers are closed for tomorrow.

I think @vivekgautams had mentioned some issue related to this which he said is mainly due to fully synthetic oils from certain manufactures doesnt go well and degrades the bonding. Susheel, you seriously have awesome memory..

The info of FS degrading the gasket was some stupid shit cooked up by TVS SVC to cover up their incapability. I'm using Shell Ultra from the past 18k km(after new head) , No problem whatsoever. The gasket was degraded by heat and then the RTV not applied right the next time it was opened for "repair" by the greats and after all that, another greater TVS SVC damaged the head while opening it..

Regarding oil burning:-
1. Valve seal must be gone.
2. Piston ring is worn out.
3.Since bike was used with low oil level, the bore might be damaged.
4.Valve timing might be off.
5. If its a head leak, the gasket is worn out.

A new engine head, bore, piston & rings & valves will make the bike NEW but not Brand new

, that too at the fraction of a brand new bike's cost. If the work is done perfectly(read experienced local mech.), the bike will run for many thousand km without any engine work.. I'v done around 20k km after replacing the engine head & I'v never ever gone to TVS SVC ever since..

Is it the "Front Outer Tube"( the golden part of the fork)?? As no other component has a "tube" in the parts catalogue.. If it is that tube, you could change only that part but you will risk getting the oil seal ruptured frequently.

Get the brakes bleeded and if your bike is more than 1year you should change the brake fluid as well.It is needless to say "check and replace the pads".. You need to change the lines if there is a leak in the lines else I dont think you will need a steel braided lines..

Sounds like the damper sets are gone (rubber inside wheel hub that goes on the sprocket hub) or it could be that they (svc) left the locking nut of the adjuster loose. But my money is on damper set.

Yes, it's the front left outer tube. I'm confused after your reply. How frequent will I face the rupture issue? Are you suggesting that I change the whole left fork set?

Actually I'm faced with a similar choice, my bike is 3 n half years old & the fork oil has never been changed. Now the front fork's compression has become slightly uneven. My Mechanic told me that he will do the job perfectly but seeing many bike with broken oil seals & leaky front forks, I have decided to replace the complete front forks set.
I think you should get the left fork replaced if cash is not a problem.
And don't be penny wise pound foolish, buy all spares (especially major ones) from TVS.

Cash is a problem mate. What I want to know is what will be the cost effectiveness if I changed only the outer tube and the seal rupture happens, compared to changing the whole set.

That's what I thought. When the mech asked to get it from chop shops I decided never again will I entrust my bike to this guy. But I have to get out of this situation now as with the current setup left shocks are not working, at all.

BTW, my bike is exactly 3 years this December. And never, with my knowing, have I changed fork oil in this span.

Well then you have no other option but to buy the left outer fork tube & the seals & fork oil (from TVS ) then get the left one fixed.

I will ask them tomorrow about the price difference. If it's affordable I will change the whole left set. Otherwise only the outer tube. Do you happen to know what's the price for left outer tube and fork oil? My mech said he already bought fork oil. Should I make it sure that he bought it from TVS?

I crossed around 120km on odo on my new rtr 180. Initially the engine was rough and had hard gear changes. But now it's butter smooth and gear shifts are so light. Now i doubt whether the run in is over or i still have to follow speed limit till first service atleast? Also the pick up has become quicker abd engine didn't vibrate at all. I mean it as I'm taking my bike after 3 days and it's surprising now. It's a complete breeze now to rev hard and revs build up quicker than before! Is there anything wrong with the bike?

Nope. Nothing's wrong with the bike.. It's just the engine opening up and it's normal. You should follow the restrictions till you change oil during first service. Even after that, be soft(high speeds are ok but no sudden or quick throttling) till 1500-2000 kms for sufficient run in.
