I twice used the Shell in my FI, From the mileage part it was good. But the engine knocking problem started and engine started over-heating. Also the shell is a High Octane petrol , which will do wonders for SBK's and Cars. Normal un-leaded petrol is advisable for RTR's, You can add fuel additives as given in the manual (IFTEX and Bardhal).

I have also installed an HID kit in ma RTR. To remove the headlight assembly, you dont have to open that screw. You only need to remove three bolts... two on either side of the console... and one down below the assembly - and these you need to use a (ring) spanner - my point being, you dont have to remove any screw (which I also did at first, then put it back )

        • I think everyone overlooked this post of mine so i didnt get any reply. Im posting it again. My bike has done almost 4500 kms. First service coming up soon so have to get prepared for engine oil and stuff. Recommend me some good oils. I know that i should be using mineral oil for now. And i can afford a Motul. But is it worth the extra dough over the Castrol? Will it void the warranty if i dont put TVS TRU4 oil?
Im expecting smoother gears with the engine oil change. And also it would be good if you could tell me the exact model name of whatever engine oils you suggest along with their price.
Do i need to buy chain clean and chain lube now only?

the best oils for the RTR180 are MOTUL,MOBIL,CASTROL,and PETRONAS.
the SC guy will tell you the crap like you'll be outta warranty if you'll put oil other than that tru4, but lend him a deaf ear.

dont expect any smoother gearshifts just after putting another can of oil which sports a good name cuz the RTR's gearbox is notchy and oils wont be helping in that department,
to clean the chain, use kerosene, and then mix 80% kerosene and 20% 20W40 oil and apply to the chain with cotton, as it's a o ring chain it doesnt require any lubing sorts as the rollers are pre lubed and i told you to apply the oil just to get rid of the rust formation in the chain which looks bad and is not at all "harmful".

People say that shell is one of the best quality fuel available in india. I don't think its high ocatne if you are using shell unleaded.I have been using only shell petrol from day 1 and no problem what so ever yet.

So that means i never need to buy any chain lubes? Thanks for saving so much of my money
And tell me the exact model names of motul and castrol engine oil (mineral). Lets see if i can find the motul in my city. Anything else i need to change for the first service like oil filter and stuff?

I read many articals about Changing the air filter , which will indeed help in better combertion and increases the overall speed, milage and sound.....

Does your HID set move back and forth for hi/low beam? Or is it HID on low beam and halogen for high beam? And where did you install the ballast? Did you install it in the fairing? The bolt below the assembly is the one which you loosen to tilt the fairing for proper headlight focus.... is this the one which I have open also? I have a HID set in which the filament moves back and forth for hi/low beam and I tried to install it in a Honda Unicorn but only the pass light worked cause of the DC line, I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I changed by air filter to K&N R1060 after my second service. There is an increase if power throught out the rpm range, and drastic change in sound. Though I am yet to verify it, I think the mileage is still same (I have been getting consistent 40kmpl from beginning).

Well buddy, my HID does not move in or out like urs . Its just the same size as the halogen thats already in it, got the same socket. So no need to do any modifications anywhere. The light has two filament, one halogen, which is for low beam (the light spread is very limited as this filament is off the center) and the HID in the centre which is for high. I had to fix another switch for the HID, as otherwise I'll need to change the ignition system also to DC.
And, yes, the bolt below the assembly used to adjust the tilt is the one you need to remove to completely remove the assembly.

                        • I guess that means no HID for my RTR. I wonder why TVS didn't make the bike with a DC system.
