blue smoke is oil burning.. and if only on cold starts, its been traced to leaky valves (valve seals kaput)Originally posted by Jith_in View PostWhy smoke coming on morning?
its has been discussed on the zma thread and ravi@17bhp has faced this issue and i too had a friends cbz showing this sympton and fixed
Remove the head and get the valves inspected and replace necessary parts along with valve lapping done.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
I will be opening the head and check for wear out, however are there any symptoms of wear out which i can look out for?
I did buy a gasket kit for the CD100 about a month back. Will the Head O-Ring, Tappet cover O-Ring be a part of the pack or do i have to buy these separately?
Here's a pic of the pack.

It has completed runin succesfully. Its run around 2K after the over haul. Its been 2 months actually. Initial runin milage was 40Kpl, now 45, no matter how sanely I ride. Though I am not that concerned about the milage, as the restoration was done purely for the nostalgia factor, But still a 100cc should not return anything under 50Kpl.Originally posted by paul.1911 View PostFor how long it has ran after overhaul? If its recently overhauled then let it run like this. Because of new piston rings it is set to run rich. You cant tune your carb for better mileage as higher rpms are restricted this time until your engine done alteast 1000kms.

I guess your bike seriously needs re-tuning. If your spark plug has ran more than 10k kms then change it to NKG CR6HSA. Wash the airfilter and then re-tune the carb. Your bike can return 65+ kpl.Originally posted by sambit View PostIt has completed runin succesfully. Its run around 2K after the over haul. Its been 2 months actually. Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
I bought the necessary items you suggested and am posting a pic of the spark plug, don't know when it was last replaced as I changed the cluster and have not kept a tab on the odo reading for the plug replacement. It could be approximately run a Gud 6k to 8k. Can you advise me on the change interval, mine seems to be a champion one bought off a showroom. A recommended plug for the CD100 and the rating would also be appreciated. Is iridium spark plugs available and is it advised for 100cc 4Stroke commuters?

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
The bike is truly in pathetic state as regards to the body as it is not in its original body work. And what was the need of doing it in ASS when i am here. Distance from cuttack is a mere 25 km and you could have come on a holiday in the morning and by evening bike would have been ready. In fact without seeing and riding we cannot tell what is the problem with the re-built engine. But i think you should re-tune the carburettor. Or else you are welcome to bhubaneswar on any holiday and we can sort it out over a cup of coffee. Tune the carb and if there is any problem then contact me or else come to bhubaneswar on sunday.Originally posted by sambit View PostCurrently restoring a 2002 Hero Honda Dawn, run more than 2 Lakh kms(was idle for around 2 yrs). Piston, Crank, Silencer, Rear wheel rim all changed. Total Damage 13K. Only paint needed now. But I am still getting milage of 45KMPL only. Job done at ASS(ya, I know, they suck). Bike performs great now, but vibrates above 50Kph. Here are some pics(No one's goin to drool on them though.

I own a 1997 CD100 and it has clocked over 1.75 lacs and is still going good, however in the recent past I have noticed the threads on the spark plug having oil, I carry out self servicing as I'm a die hard DIY enthusiast. I don't trust any mechanics here at Bangalore, and am looking to solve this on my own.
I used to give my bike for service at both ASC and at a private garage, but this was more than 2 years ago.
I normally carryout routine service with a interval of 2000kms and change the oil every 4000kms.
Can all the experts come together on this thread and give me the inputs in order to set things right...
Here are a few pics of the motorcycle.

I just returned from a short run of 190 Kms upward and back on the bike today and clocked a top speed of 88kmph with ease. I then noticed these oil leaks from opening of spark plug near neck. I also see a bit of oil on the left side of engine case. I changed the packing for the right side, clutch cover a month ago but am yet to do the over Gaul on the remaining parts.
Is my bike burning four stroke oil?? Am I in danger of seizure to bore.??
From the spark plug picture that you have posted it looks like engine is burning oil. I would suggest a engine re-build at this stage for the bike to get a new life. Otherwise the crank will get damaged if further delay is done. Oil leaks are not serious problem as they can be taken care by change of packings and o-rings. But your engine is burning oil which you should be worried about.Photo of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/854067-post963.html-3.88 lac km cont....Ownership review of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/832255-post608.html- slowly updating as and when getting time. Thanks man. Really means a lot. First of all, will get carb retuned and change the plug to NKG as suggested by paul.1911, then will let you know the difference. Finally will take it to you for QC.Originally posted by sibun View PostThe bike is truly in pathetic state as regards to the body as it is not in its original body work. Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Thank you Pinaki sir and Jithin bro. Your method worked. I did not give full throttle though, but took the bike to 70s and 80s occasionally. Now the bike feels free to go all the way from 0 to 75+ kmph. The bike has done more than 750 kms it 2 weeks. Thank you once again.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostAll I would advise , if I may , is take her along this longer route more often and if the road permits , then open her up as high she'll go - after she is well warmed up . Vary the rpm . Be hard on her . Use engine braking a lot when you want to reduce - like when coming down from a flyover or bridge . Keep the brakes and other parts in good condition and the oil fresh and upto the level . And hey , again , be careful of the road and traffic while doing this . .
Jithin bro, have your cold start issue solved?
----consecutive posts auto-merged-----
Its cleared bro. It was because of my faulty riding style, by never going above 50 or 55 kmph. If i give a little throttle, the bike will try to go above 50 kmph but what i use to do was, to take the hands off the throttle and maintain the constant speed. Now, for more than 700 kms of riding in various speeds, the bike is finally tamed according to my wish. Thank youOriginally posted by RohIIT View PostCheck the airfilter and snorkel to airbox , if any of both is blocked then acceleration and top end suffers by a lot . It is specifically mentioned in manual to drive vehicle in variation so that engine works up all rpm zones during run in , sticking to constant speed is not good for cylinder it causes something i read about cant recall it

Jeswin bro cold start issue is cleared to an extend. This week i will change the spark plug and air filter and going to meet my mech to tune carb since passion has no tachometer i can't catch the rpm variations easily.. Happy to hear that your bike is getting speed :-)

I was quite surprised to see the black sooty spark plug, but now knowing that an overhaul is needed have procured parts necessary for the re-build such as O-ring kit, Packing kit and valve oil seals. I thought it would be wise to stock up on the Cylinder & Piston kit as i have long term plans of keeping this motorcycle, and the fact that it does not cost a bomb like the RX and Shogun kits. I did the hasty thing of getting the OE kit which i think is not as good as the 3rd party makes such as USHA. I would like to know whether this USHA kit is available in Bangalore and is the cylinder and piston kit the same for Splendor/CD100/Passion/Sleek/Dawn/Joy/Deluxe ?

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Replace oil before 2000kms , these little engines love fresh oil . If any gasket is has obvious leak ,replace it asap . Keep checking the oil level weekly and see if there is any noticeable fall . No need to worry about engine seizure and oil-burning etc unless a significant decrease in oil level is observed in a short while of riding . Oil dipstick is your friendOriginally posted by Akkiben View PostHi all, I have been keenly following this thread for quite some time and this will be my first post. .. Also same as Akkiben , keep an weekly eye on your bike's oil level with dipstick .
The plug recommended in my Splendor+(2010) book is NGK model CR7H-SA . However , now I am using the equivalent G-Power model CR7H-GP . Equivalent iridium is also available ( CR7H-IX ) but unnecessary expense .Originally posted by Akkiben View PostA recommended plug for the CD100 and the rating would also be appreciated. .
The advantage to the g-power I found is that it never needed any cleaning or re-gap in 8500 kms of use , the firing tip is always clean . In my book, zero jhanjhat for Rs 120 = great !

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
I tuned carb one week back and after that cold start problem increases and also there were missing in low speed. So several times i retuned it and the problem was same. Then i richen the mixture so the missing is gone but cold start is an issue. Plug looks black but no oil deposites and no drop in oil level. It is my dad's bike and he never turn off the fuel line.
