Ok it seems you were trying to bleed system , use a brake fluid from sealed bottle and bleed system again bleed nut must be opened after u apply pressure on lever and tighten back without leaving lever . Its like , press > open >tighten > leave

This is to ensure no air goes back in hose . Dont use DOT3 AND DOT4 in same system . It has to be any one completely .

Hey thats cool. I can slightly remember that your bike has clocked more than 18k kms in the odo as you posted earlier. As Pinaki sir told, running in is a controversial topic. Can you share that how did you run-in your engine when it was new? I will be able to learn something from it.

@All, Since my bike has not ridden at higher speeds, i decided to take it to college yesterday. 93 kms one way. Total 190 kms approximately. For the first 60 km it was state highway and the remaining 30 km is NH 45. So, at the beginning i was riding at 50 to 55 kmph, then gradually increased the throttle, the bike started gaining speed. It went all the way to 70 kmph with less than 30% throttle. I did not have the heart to go further. Then, i was riding by varying the speeds inbetween 60 and 65 kmph. For the first 30 to 35 kms, there were severe vibrations after that, it got reduced which i could notice. 93 kms were done non stop, all the way to college.

While returning from college, as in the morning, took the bike past 60 kmph, the vibrations were reduced a lot. Some vibrations were in 60 kmph, but after crossing the 60 kmph mark, it reduced.

What does this mean? Didnt I do the brake in of the engine properly? Clarifications please

Ya bike is now nearing 20k. It is my dad's bike and he rides very sanely at speeds 40-50 so during running in me too ride the bike and i tried the opposite to my dad. I taken it to the 70-75 mark. So the engine get used to both the speeds. [emoji3] but the only problem i have in pro is the cold start issue. It is not getting away.. Tried almost every thing but no use [emoji20]

All I would advise , if I may , is take her along this longer route more often and if the road permits , then open her up as high she'll go - after she is well warmed up . Vary the rpm . Be hard on her . Use engine braking a lot when you want to reduce - like when coming down from a flyover or bridge . Keep the brakes and other parts in good condition and the oil fresh and upto the level . And hey , again , be careful of the road and traffic while doing this .

If no other problem can be found , check the electricals . Check if the spark-cable produces a fat blue spark when held an inch from the frame and kicked . Check the plug - replace if more than 10k kms old . Replace the plug cap . Check the battery for good charge and correct level .

Currently restoring a 2002 Hero Honda Dawn, run more than 2 Lakh kms(was idle for around 2 yrs). Piston, Crank, Silencer, Rear wheel rim all changed. Total Damage 13K. Only paint needed now. But I am still getting milage of 45KMPL only. Job done at ASS(ya, I know, they suck). Bike performs great now, but vibrates above 50Kph. Here are some pics(No one's goin to drool on them though. , Just have pity and give some ideas to improve FE. )Click image for larger version

Hi all, I have been keenly following this thread for quite some time and this will be my first post.
I own a 1997 CD100 and it has clocked over 1.75 lacs and is still going good, however in the recent past I have noticed the threads on the spark plug having oil, I carry out self servicing as I'm a die hard DIY enthusiast. I don't trust any mechanics here at Bangalore, and am looking to solve this on my own.
I used to give my bike for service at both ASC and at a private garage, but this was more than 2 years ago.
I normally carryout routine service with a interval of 2000kms and change the oil every 4000kms.

Can all the experts come together on this thread and give me the inputs in order to set things right...

Here are a few pics of the motorcycle.

I just returned from a short run of 190 Kms upward and back on the bike today and clocked a top speed of 88kmph with ease. I then noticed these oil leaks from opening of spark plug near neck. I also see a bit of oil on the left side of engine case. I changed the packing for the right side, clutch cover a month ago but am yet to do the over Gaul on the remaining parts.
Is my bike burning four stroke oil?? Am I in danger of seizure to bore.??

For how long it has ran after overhaul? If its recently overhauled then let it run like this. Because of new piston rings it is set to run rich. You cant tune your carb for better mileage as higher rpms are restricted this time until your engine done alteast 1000kms.

Welcome to forum Akkiben.

Changing oil at 4000kms is very long and bad for the life of engine. Change at every 2000 interval.
If oil is coming on spark plug thus means your engine is burning engine oil. if your experiencing low compression, low pickup, low mileage then its time to do engine work. It can be either re-boring or changing the complete block set.
Before we can proceed to guide you with the same. We would like to know the complete history of your engine.

BTW, very nice looking bike. Looks well maintained.

Well, paul.1911 i did forget to mention that i do not use the Hero Honda 4t Oil but an oil thats catered for a longer drain interval. I have used 20W40 oils such as Motul,Castrol and even a lesser known but long drain interval oil such as Gulf however will stick to the 2000k oil change routine hereafter.

With regards to the engine compression, i dont see any difference in thrust or low pick up infact my HH CD100 can still be a peppy but classic looking commuter.
The mileage returns are above satisfactory, meaning i still get a FE of 71-74Kmpl and a worst case FE of 62-65Kmpl. The bike's top speed, pick up speed and even engine sound is nothing less than top notch. My bike was facing the oil residue leaking from the right side of clutch cover, which was the result of a worn out gasket which i fixed recently.

Please do excuse the inverted images posted, i used my ipad to post them and have probably messed up the process.

In regards to the service history, let me share the complete history of the motorcycle:

1997 Model(1996 Manufactured).

Iam the 2nd owner since Dec 2006.

All in stock state, except for aesthetic changes such as removal of carrier and saree guard.

Engine Oil: Used mainly Castrol / Shell/ Motul/ Gulf all 20W40.

Air Filter: The element was clean enough the last time and found traces of engine oil in the box.

Spark Plug: Setting should be fine since i use the ones sold in showroom for CD100. Not sure about the gap setting though and the tighten process.

Chain Slack: 1 Inch movement.

Carb Setting: All the standard settings, none tweaked.

Clutch: Cable and lever play adjusted to optimal, not sure if i have my clutch bell settings right.

Throttle Response: Crisp, and steady acceleration and absolutely no vibes. Infact one can hardly hear the engine sound and beat unless the throttle is opened to its characteristic rhythmic beat. I get a lot of heads turn and appreciation for the smooth run and clear sound.

Brakes: Perfectly in par with recommended settings.

All cables are lubricated with grease hence very minimal wear.

The magnet cover seems to be fine(No leakage) however the portion between cylinder and engine center case has maginal oil residue on it.
The head seems to be just fine, maybe a gasket change would be required.

The wheels are in impeccable condition no rust on rims whatsoever and they run smooth, i just notice a slight bend on the rear rims and maybe need to get the trued.

The frame is free from rust and all the electrical seem in place.

The Rear Shock Absorbers are just fine, however i have still not figured out the process for front suspension oil seals swap and effective oil change. Im sure the bike needs a fork overhaul, can be judged by the sounds heard and jerks when run on speed breakers.

Im all worries about the oil burning issue and feel i have neglected something, could the gaskets(packing) be an issue here??
I bought the OE pack of Gasket kit and have only changed the clutch cover gasket, will changing all the remaining ones help solve this problem?

Excuse all my noobness, i might have taken extreme care and precaution in service of the bike but may have missed on some key points.

I request all the experts to help me get this machine to run like Sibun's Joy which has inspired me to great levels.

PS: Well, and i did forget to mention, this was my first bike bought of my own hard earned money,(2006) back then i only fancied the Karizma, as all my fave bikes were long stopped(Shogun/RX/RD/Yezdi/CBZ) and was told by my dad to wait until i turned 20 for my dream Karizma. I was just a nervous 18 year old, so was looking for a used low cost Hi FE bike that could last as a standby till i got my dream bike. I was initially on the look out Splendor, but these had a high resale value back then and could only pick up the predecessor(HH CD100), which was pretty low priced and woke up fond memories of my uncle's old CD100(1988) a Jap engine. This bike, right from the first day put a big fat smile on my face and constantly reminded be that this was an asset and not to be sold. The bikes that followed thereafter were all performance oriented bikes.

Suzuki Shogun(1998 Model) - Purchased in 2008, sold in 2009 with regrets.
Karizma ZMR(2010) - Dad's gift which i still have.
Yamaha RX135 4Speed(2000) - Bought in 2013, in process of being restored to stock.
Yamaha RX135 5Speed(2000) - Bought in 2013, in process of being restored to stock.

Sorry for bringing up all these on this thread and going OT, I will stick to the subject in future.

I have mentioned earlier about my passion pro's starting issue. Today checked spark plug and filter both were fine. And the plug cap there is blue sparks coming so i think it is okey. But bike has cold start issue. On morning it will start and then turns off when accelerating. Also smoke is coming on mornings. This issue is happening each time when the bike is kept off for more than 2 hours. Also there is a missing on cold riding. So friends what will be the problem? How to rectify it? I just only asked the history of engine not bike...well..
All mineral oils should not be use later than 2000kms. Semi-synth can be use till 3000kms. While fully synth are to be use anywhere around 6000kms. This drain interval also varies from oil to oil. Some oil detroit's very soon while some continue to perform better even after its change interval.

For your engine, as u mentioned that oil is leaking from block packing then its time to open it for replacement.
Some people believe that their engine has no problem and its running perfectly fine but not everyone can tell without actually looking into it.
As your block packing needs replacement then would suggest you to open the head & block and inspect everything and replace the parts that needs replacement.
If you find block with no worn then just simply replace the piston rings as this will increase the compression and would fill any minor gap.
If found worn then you will have two options. First either to get it re-bore with next oversize piston or second option is to buy a new block kit which cost around 1600-1700.
Then polish the valves and replace valve oil seal, head o-ring, head packing, block packing, top cover packing, left/right cover packing, and tappet cover o-ring.
This much is absolutely require and rest upon inspection.

Does your bike start with choke on?
If yes then your bike is running super lean which is causing starting problem.
After its gets hot it must be running fine. When you drive in cold start you must be feeling like bike is misfiring or there is no fuel & unresponsive throttle.

How did you actually checked the spark?
One way is to open the plug touching with the body and then checking it.
Another way is to leave the plug in engine open the cap separate it from wire. Bring the wire close to plug tip and the start the bike. Once the bike starts, accelerate it and see the color of spark.
That way the gap can be stretch upto 1 inch. The spark will be super blue and you may find it slightly pinkish color if the plug you are using is a resistor one.

Yes it starts with choke. But spark plug looks dark so it is not lean. Yup i checked the plug by touchung it with the body.

Jithin it can be due to vaccum leak as i said in xtreme thread . That issue is damn irritating . Change the o ring and insulator of carb and inlet manifold zone . Costs 30/-
Vacuum leak makes cold idle poor and anytime idling is uneven with lean symptoms

That is not the correct way of checking spark.
Your bike is running lean. Your plug is black because of lean mixture you are giving more throttle to maintain the same speed. So more throttle leads to more fuel which is making your plug black. Hotter plug doesnt gets back as the carbon gets burnt due to heat. Your plug is running colder which is not burning the carbon and therefore its black and you were thinking that the tuning is not lean.

Do what is suggested by RohIIT and tune your carb. Your problem will get solve forever.
