Do not heat the drain screw as it has a o-ring and it will get damaged. Instead go by tightening the screw slightly and then opening.Usually the screws which are tight can be opened by slightly tightening it more and then opening. And you are right those ucal carburettors are not as well finished as keihin.@shoeb- best of luck for the restoration. 4S champion is my favorite bike and also the best from bajaj. My uncle had one and sadly he sold it before i could buy it. However i am trying to find one and would like to see your restoration. If you require any help then just ask me and i will help.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostPhoto of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/854067-post963.html-3.88 lac km cont....Ownership review of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/832255-post608.html- slowly updating as and when getting time. OT-
Today we started the restoration of Kawasaki 4S champion which belongs my cousin.
When I drained the oil,I was surprised to see that only a small cup of 50ml could be filled.
After opening the engine-
Thick gooey like sludge everywhere, bore piston shot, camshaft bearings balls came out and rolled on the floor,Gear lever was welded to gear shfter, kick lever was welded to kick shaft.Had to cut it with a grinder.Con-rod had too much play, timing chain, rocker arm and camshaft worn out beyond imagination, cam shaft lobes size decreased by almost 5mm...........................
One hell of an experience, will start assembling this weekend as we have to source some parts.
Need not be surprised. At least some percent of bikes on Indian roads will be like this. A Mason( bar bender)came to my house for some concreate work with a all parts welded CT 100.All money he gets is not enough for his drinks , putting petrol for 20 Rs. is difficult then how about maintanence.Till it runs it is OK after that scrap.
Any way best wishes for sucessfull restoration."work for cause n not for applause". "live life 2 express n not 2 impress" ."dont strive to make ur presences noticed, just make ur absence felt".

Love once again
@all- why is this thread so silent?
Ok, i will share an experience with you.
Have you ever fell in love once again for the same thing?
Falling love for the first time is easy but love for second time for the same is quite difficult.
But i fell in love for second time just five days ago.
OK the subject is my JOY.
It so happened that i was going to my work at around 10 AM in the morning. i was already late by half an hour and the road became jam because of minister's motorcade. So i was in a hurry as i have to cover around a hundred km. And it was an important day. So i as accelerating furiously. I think i have not accelerated so hard after college on my joy. Man was it pulling. I could see that the needle was effortlessly rising without any hiccup. On the exit to city there is a roundabout. I shifted to 3rd at around 30 kph and leaned the bike starting the round about. As i reached the mid of roundabout i started accelerating hard in the round about in third gear and leaned more. As i reached 55 kph the foot peg scrapped the tarmac without any effort from me. I was really impressed as a bike which is twelve years old at 3.15 lac km and has only changed the rear shock once and front fork pipe once and no suspension bush till now it still doesn't wobble nor has any deterioration of handling. Now this speaks about HERO's quality.
Also i would like to add that i completed those 100 km in 100 minutes without any problem that too being stuck in traffic.
Now talk about falling in love for second time, now i know falling in love for second time .... err i think 10th or 20th time means.

We don't have any issues with our bikes and that is the reason for this thread being silent.
I fall in love with splendor everyday and every ride is the best ride.
OT
Today the fuel knob broke when I was turning it from OFF to ON,Thank God that it broke after Turning it on. This thing would have left me stranded in the parking lot today !!!.
Me and my friend had filled petrol from the same bunk at the same time and his Chetak started misfiring severely. I removed the spark-plug and found it to be black with wet soot. Cleaned it and the misfiring reduced but it was still vibrating like hell.(Spark-plug is new)
Got back to his home and drained all the petrol and Filled petrol from a reputed bunk and problem is almost solved but I fail to understand why my splendor did not face such issue ?
(My splendor did not misfire but started vibrating, need to drain the petrol ASAP).F

Joy ownership part-2
Since the old post cannot be edited i am continuing with part-2.
I left from year 2006.
Year 2006
This was an important year as i completed 12th and took admission in engineering and also got driving license.
I took admission into mechanical engineering and my college was about 15 kms from my home. So i started commuting to college by bike. But a tragedy struck here. Remember the abuse that my cousin brothers had meted to my bikes. The result was that the tank started leaking. I was completely heart broken and was confused what to do. As a student i didn't had enough money to buy a new tank. I was so broken that i couldn't sleep in night and was crying in my mind. Also welding has a problem as joy stickers are placed very low on the tank they will get damaged. Then my mechanic contacted a good welder and he assured me that the stickers will not get damaged.
So the next day i reached my mechanics shop at 8 Am and the tank was opened from the chassis. Then the tank was emptied and washed thoroughly in detergent and pressure water then it was dried in hot sunlight for 2 hours to remove traces of petrol gas.
Then the tank was taken to welding guy. I bought a piece of ice from market about the size of a brick and wrapped it in a cloth. The tank was placed on a scooter tyre covered with cloth so that no scratch occurs. Then the ice was placed on the stickers and the welder cut open the tank bottom portion below the sticker. Due to the ice the sticker didn't burn due to heat.
Then from a thick steel sheet the exact shape of the left bottom portion was carved out and carefully welded.
I must mention the skill of the welding guy as his hands were rock steady and the cutting was sharp and clean. After welding the tank was checked for leaks and then taken to a painter. The painter applied putty over the weld so that it becomes label and then primer was sprayed on the welded plate. Then color was sprayed and the tank was finished so that the welded portion color matched with the original paint. Then the tank was fitted. (here i would like to mention that recently i got the news that the welder has passed away. Also such is the quality of work that the tank is intact even after 7 years).
Since college started in august daily commute increased. But the sad thing is that the college was not good. There was no good lectures and also most of the theory class were not happening. Only practicals were their in morning and then the college was over.
Since i was short on money and i loved my bike so much that i always wanted to maintain it in top notch condition but nobody at home felt the same and thought i was crazy. So what happened that the money i got for lunch in college, i used to save that and forgo lunch. As i saved the money i could easily maintain my bike. But i will salute this bike that this bike didn't required maintenance and only required periodic service at 2k.
Most of my friends in engineering had pulsars, karizma, e.t.c and everybody would tease me for riding a old bike but i was and am always proud of my bike. I used to think and laugh that my old bike is more well maintained than their new bikes.
In the mean time i got a friend who was also of same thought as mine. So we became fast friends. Since our practical gets over by 10:30 AM and no theory class was taking place some days we would just go on a trip of 80-100 kms. Since petrol was at Rs.40 at that time we would put Rs.20 each and 1 liter petrol was more than enough for short trips. Usually three days a week we would go on a trip. Some days i will just go to my mechanic place and learn different things about bike. It is at this time i got immense knowledge on bikes.
Then in December 2006 CBZ extreme got launched. I used to buy overdrive and auto car magazines and since i couldn't afford new magazines
i used to buy one month old magazines at second hand price.
The test drive by overdrive and 24 hours endurance run had me sold on it. More details i will post in extreme ownership thread in 2-3 days.
With so much trips and all the speedo touched 1.25 lacs without a hiccup. Regular maintenance like head cleaning and all was done.
Year 2007:-
In may the bike has crossed 1.25 lacs and still was not smoking. But there was loss of power when two persons are seated. Also some noise was coming from engine.
Then i asked my mechanic to open engine. Skipping meals and skipping eating outside, i managed to save Rs. 7000.
So the complete engine was opened.
I got the spares. At that time the original bore kit was made by usha.
We changed the con rod, timing kit, valves, rockers, clutch housing, plates, GPT, all packings, oil seals and o-ring. The complete work was done over two days and i took no risk and everything was attended to.
A small modification we did was that the oil rings on standard pistons has huge gaps and will leak oil once bore seats to rings. So we bought a 0.25 size ring pack and fit the oil rings to standard piston by grinding.
After that engine was started and let to idle for 2 hours.Last edited by sibun; 10-08-2012, 03:11 PM.Photo of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/854067-post963.html-3.88 lac km cont....Ownership review of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/832255-post608.html- slowly updating as and when getting time. This is not paint cracking but removing of so called teflon coating by service center. Do not worry i have asked my painter about it and will post it tomorrow with detailed explanation.Originally posted by ATHUL4R View PostHi sibun little help needed here

In Aneesh bro's bike, the teflon would turn bluish when the bike was wet. Looked kinda weird for a black bike.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostDid you ever get your bike so called "Teflon coated" ?Motorcycling Experience:

. Will try heating and ice on the float-pin-fixer screw . Trying heat here also has hazard since the float is plastic and cannot be removed beforehand . Damn ! The drain screw cannot be cooled since it is recessed about 3mm . But I am toying with an idea ... how about we replace the entire float bowl with the one from the old carburetor(which we have kept for parts) ? That one hasn't any problem .. provided it fits perfectly on this new carb .
