    .
Lets make it to answer from your side:

Second Ninja will cost you for 1.5-2.0L , Do you have this to pay ??
If you pay it by loan then second hand bikes are not loaned, if personal loans then get ready for 18+% interest rate.

After buying the Ninja you will clock kms on it, right!! So one day you fall , don't see when you will fall?? but once you fall, The side fairing someone here quoted: 14-16K
both side or single side don't know, but if it's 8K also are you ready to pay it when ever it happens??

Brake pad and Engine oil are something that you have changed in every service one or the other they are also some good amount!!

Average you will get is 20-25kmpl only!! even less some time, becuase you don't get better roads or traffic free roads in India at all. Only on interstate highways.

    Now some more facts :

Currently you are 25k very nice!! This willincrease gradually lets say you earn 35K in nxt yr, will you in state of paying Ninja Expenses ??

If you are a guy of saving money kind of person, then won't it will tear your heart paying Ninja bills from saving moneys!!

There are only two tye owners here:
    1. Parents gift them Ninja
    2. Purchased self.

But Self purchase persons earn good to burn it over Ninja, or they are at certain age that their monthly are well to take care of.

And jsut buying Ninja for your dreams is not good, be practical, evaluate your Need!!
    1. Ninja is not at all a daily bike.
    2. Best when ridden on open highways, else no fun.
    3. Frankly speaking Ninja is like owning a small hatchback car!!

If you want a feel of buying a good bike of same range then There is mighty CBR 250 which can be afforded in your scenario!!

There is nothing to discourage even if you earn 50K then i would have asked you can you pay 15-16K for farings, for a bike ?? or it's better to own a car ??

thank u for the revert dude. Sincerely appreciate your concern. I shall keep this in mind...

I would say wait for at least another year, get a salary hike and then probably jump ship [Change Company ]. Then the Ninja will be yours.
Personally I would say don't buy it now, wait for some time.
Hey bprags, thats a resonating statement, truly appreciate that. And BTW, i'm not gonna buy one immediately, but atleast a year later from now. But i wanted to be sure of the plan & direction i should take to achieve the end result, only then can i begin to save money & build an unbreakable dream of owning one. But that dream imagery needs to be formed right away, only then i can go to sleep every night, thinking that one day i'll wake up to smell the coffee of my choice. That's why I've posted this query to know & judge myself....

I'm completely aware of the mileage, yet its the passion for this bike that drives me nuts

Hell no! IMHO ninja's charisma is hard to match... i must say its the ninja that chose me, not the other way

      Hey Somen,
      Replies in bold...
Owning a car is nice, but riding a bike gives me individuality moreover, I'm passionate about 'em, thats what matters more, aint it right?

Umm no. You meant floating rates which do not give a picture. Approx rates would be around haf what you mentioned- at least thats what I give.
After buying the Ninja you will clock kms on it, right!! So one day you fall , don't see when you will fall?? but once you fall, The side fairing someone here quoted: 14-16K --
It will cost ~14k a side. But I don't agree with the fact that you have to fall for certain. I am aware of lots of people who haven't tasted tarmac and yet are twice as old as I am - many owning fairly powerfull bikes as well. While accidents are just that, you just don't drive thinking you will fall. Have good defensive riding principles and you are safe most of the time.
Brake pad and Engine oil are something that you have changed in every service one or the other they are also some good amount!!
Normal service for the Ninja is not that expensive and you only have to service every 6k kms. And you certainly don't have to change brake pads every service. It is upto how you ride. I haven't changed mine in the last two services.
Average you will get is 20-25kmpl only!! even less some time, becuase you don't get better roads or traffic free roads in India at all. Only on interstate highways.
Fair enough on the mileage part - but I guess anyone who purchases a Ninja will do some homework on his own and will know these facts. If you need 50kmpl, you should have got a discover 100.

Point 1 is funny. I have used the Ninja as a daily bike\as an off roader\higway cruiser - no disappontments on all three fronts. Mumbai traffic is not that easy as well. She heats up, but nothing that makes you irritated.
Point2 - what about twisties . Btw no bike is fun in traffic.
Pont 3 - Wrong mate! It is much more than that. It is an experience.

A word for Kiran here - I am pretty sure you can maintain the bike with your sal - If you can afford to buy a good one.

          • @ mithun: gosh! thanks there for the word that one rides for fun more than the fear of fall finally it boils down to one's understanding of his machine's limitations than its potential, i guess...

@somen: i know its your concern on my expenses, but frankly i have had my fair share of falls on my FZ16 & learnt the hard way...never will it happen to me again, but doesn't mean i don't dress up for a rainy day! but thanks dude, your words are valued too

              +1 to that!
              @keyrun
I use my bike as an every day bike with no problems what so ever.Only point u should be concerned about is the parking in public places. But what I've noticed is that,in any given parking lot, your bike is as safe as a R15 or CBR.Fared bikes always draw people

And using it everyday,If you say compare it with CBR which gives about 27kmpl in Bangalore traffic,A Ninja will give about 23-24.
Like me if you travel in semi/urban roads ,I get a constant 26kmpl per litre.
The linear power delivery and the gearing makes it easy to putter around town.A lot of people have talked about the lack of torque ,But I have never felt this even after switching from Fz16 much like yourself(mine was also the 1st gen,but it was joeled and produced massive torque which would put the 220 to shame)
The normal service will set you back by about 3k for normal service. It might be on the expensive side by the interval is 6k kms so its quite reasonable compared to bikes which have lesser interval(R15 3k kms)
Other common maintenance will be break pads which needs to be changed on an interval based on your riding style.(break pad costs 1.1k).
And regarding the accident part,Riding a bike like Ninja, At least for me I am extra cautious and extra careful, always reminding myself that I am riding a mini SBK(atleast on Indian Roads).
If sadly ,any mishap does occur you can always have some back up savings.
IMO i don't think its appropriate to back out of a decision of buying a dream bike solely on the basis of a worry that "what if I get into an accident".

If you are a purist and want unadulterated sheer performance,Ninja is the bike for you!

On another note got my 2nd service done today guys at Autoservice. The service experience was satisfactory
Here's the break up for reference
              1.Motul 300v Factoryline double ester Fs oil(1.6litres)-1376
              2.Element oil -334

Guys, we should plan a Bombay ninja meetup sometime next month. Maybe a Sunday ride or something? How about 11/11/12?
