Why is kerosene not recommended? I find it better than most muc off cleaners and wd40 as well.

I am not sure why Kerosene is not recommended.. I was told this by a mechanic back in Chennai when I asked why he is using diesel over kerosene.. he gave me some tips but I forgot as I was a kid and back then I wasn't too much into biking

AFAIK the bike comes with a heavy duty chain and a chain guard from factory, there is no need to waste time and resources cleaning the chain, just periodic lubing with SAE grade gear oil would be fine. And if by chance you run without a chain guard then the periodic pressure wash would do a way better job at cleaning the chain that manually doing it.

No my dear sir! Cleaning is mandatory to prolong chain/sprocket life. There is still a gap between the chain guard which can be seen from the rear disc's side. It's enough to let in dust, muck, cow dung, small stones, grains etc. Keep only lubing the chain with whatever and you'll eventually have to change the sprocet set within 20-25k kms at max.
Now if you think that 25k kms is good enough for the kit, then that's another matter altogether. I'd love to see my stock sprocket last me 100k kms.

Well, my sprockets lasted 30k kms without ANY cleaning and now am on second set. But divya i guess has completed 50+ thousand kms on his stock sprockets. So it does make a large difference

Since I had bought my bike I had not cleaned the chain and sprocket for the past 10,000 Kms. I just lube it every 1K to 1.2 K Kms with grease and 90 grade oil mix....Of course, it is messy and and a lot of grime like Divya Sharan said(I have the chain guard on)...still the work and mess seems imposing and I keep postponing it....My odo is at 30K + and the Chain is OE and setting is at half way mark....
I must learn from other diligent owners in the thread to care for my bike.

Whoopa!! Thats shocking, mine's around 10k kms younger than yours and though it still runs, a few teeth are missing due to a couple of mishaps, if I push it some more, I would be able to hit the 60k mark but then that would be asking for it.
Anyways kudo's on the achievement, but I hope you've considered time and money spent on maintaining it into the grand scheme of things, cause in the end you should not have wasted twice the amount of price of the chain in maintaining it to reach the 100k mark.

Not much spent. Bought a 1 kg grease bottle 3 years back. I hardly use chain lube. Cleaning with diesel/kerosene depending on which is available nearby. My apartment complex has a few kirana shops from where I usually get some kerosene for free, because I buy wholesale ration from them (Like 150 ml, in a small bottle).

Search back this thread, you have replies for all your queries.

Forget HIDs, plonk a good 55w halogen. Respectably good light spread and no issues from cops. Any 10w40 mineral or semi synth oil would do just fine.
