Guys my brother wants to buy a new bike, and has left the decision on me. He doesn't wish for rev crazy, sporty ones. He wants to ride cozily with good low end torque. Hence I can think of unicorn cb160 and hero xtreme only. Anyways I have almost decided on hero xtreme, unless you guys steer me away with strong reasoning.

Meanwhile, the Hero showroom has got a 2014 karizma R (non FI) in stock at a discount. They will sell it for 76000 on road! It's brand new except minor scratches due to mishandling by the workshop guys.

Now I don't know what I wish to achieve by it. But I am thinking of buying that karizma R and putting the PGM-FI from my ZMR into that (i think cylinder head will have to be changed too, I will get it done by experienced hero mechanic), alongwith my Pirelli tyres and other goodies. This way I will have a new bike with projector headlamps and sell off my old zmr (which will have carburettor in it).

Note: There are zero problems in my 7 years old ZMR, it has done only 22000 kms till now. I have maintained it perfectly with all new parts as and when required. I mean, I am not looking to get rid of it, that's why I asked whether it's a feasible idea? Or a waste of time?

A big no no for the Karizma R. Not worth it! Known enemy is better than an unknown friend!!

How much do you think the ZMR will fetch you?

The 2014 Karizma twins are known to be problematic!!
Splendor - 2k to 2006
Karizma - 2k3 to 2009
P180 - 2k6 to 2k9
Hunk - Oct 2k7 til now
ZMR - 2010 to Forever
RX135(2k) - 2013 to 2018
Ninja 250R (2010) - 2016 til now

Thanks, I had no idea about such problems. After thinking hard, I realised that swapping PGM-FI isn't as easy as it sounds, better to leave it alone.

Can you suggest any other bikes around 150/160 cc with good low end torque except Xtreme? Leave out Apache RTR, they are exceptionally good but handlebar is too low, sporty for my brother.

My suggestion would be Honda Hornet first then Yamaha FZ S for 150 cc bike...

However Honda Hornet misses two features 1. DC headlight 2. Switch gear not of premium bike

BTW guys i am using Shell Ax7 10w40 on my bike now and the engine has become smooth and mileage has definitely increased, However i think the inital pickup has dropped a bit compared to MOTUL 10w30 , So i have bought both Ax7 and Motul again during amazon sale will change back to motul and check if the pickup comes back.
I also Noticed the same and changed back to Motul because I missed the extra pickup.

Today while cleaning the air filter I saw that the chassis is broken near the air filter. Can anyone suggest what can I do? Should I change the chassis or go to a welding shop for repairs? I have a big trip coming to Arunachal Pradesh next month. Mine is only 39000 Kms old.

I should get fix with welding not required to change complete frame...if bike is under warranty then claim warranty at SVC..

Hi guys. Hope all of you and your rides are doing well!
Its been a long time that I've posted.
Have completed 72500kms as of now and the bike is doing really great!

However, just today morning, i started hearing a scratching noise from the front wheel at all speeds above 30kmph. Faster i go, higher the frequency of the scratching noise. It doesn't come constantly but at random intervals.
Its not related to brakes and am absolutely sure of it.

Has it got something to do with the bearings? Say if there's rust formed due to the recent rains. Have any of you experienced this? The sound is pretty loud and scary!

I had the same issue and this was when i was on a long ride i was really worried i took it to my mechanic as soon as i came back and the fault us under your front mudguard there is a clamp which would have come off and when you are in high speeds it will slowly touch your wheels.

He replaced the clamp at it was all fine, just remove the ffront wheel and then check under the mudguard you will find the culprit

Hello Simon da,

Got the tappets checked and mechanic confirmed that the valve clearance is fine. Could the noise be due to cam tensioner?

Ok get the tensioner and timing chain checked. Also check timing pads for wear.

Hi Guys,

I haven't been very active recently! probably because my Black Pearl hadn't munched enough miles or maybe because she never caused any problems for me.. Never the less, I wasn't active because I don't use tapatalk as much as I used to!

Coming to the point.. I have a major update

This is what happened:

I was with my friend. we were on ninja 250, I was showing him around as this was his first visit to Delhi.. I dropped him off in his Hotel and I was riding my way to Indirapuram from Sector 18 flyover which is almost 5 kms long.

I was cruising at 140 kmph on my Ninja 250 and something just went past me.. Very silent as well! doing 140 kmph and being overtaken got on my nerves.. I noticed it was a Ninja 650 and I didn't even try to twist the throttle. Instead, I slowed down to 100 kmph and then stopped for a moment and continued my way home!

I was amazed by the way that bike just got past me without making any noise!

That 650 bug bit me and I got the itch to upgrade to a bigger bike! Not that I wasn't happy with the Ninja 250s performance or anything..

I spoke with my dad and he agreed. We both started looking out for Ninja 650 and Benelli 600i as the alternate option from the used bike market.

my dad was stringent about getting a bike Chennai and hence I started looking out for bikes from Chennai! there were pretty decent offers and at the same time very good offers. I tried my best to negotiate which was almost done..

Meanwhile, I discussed with Archer84 and threw a couple of queries here in xBhp forum for 600i..

Archer84 aka Karthik advised me about the maintenance and spare costs for 600i. not that the Ninja 650 is easier on the pocket, but atleast the N650 market is vast and spares can be imported at cheaper price.. so I decided to leave 600i and continued my search for Ninja 650.. I simply surfed through olx that night and found a very good deal for a 2016 Ninja 650. Got my dad to discuss with the owner and we were about to finalize that bike.. but like any other Indian pop would do, he discussed with his so called colleagues who decided to throw an atom bomb on me! my dad listened to their words and decided not to get me a Super bike! saying it is very dangerous blah blah blah!

well, that night was truly horrible.. hated those people to the core and like any other person whose dreams had been shattered I was upset and angry..

That is when my heart played a major role.. If dad wants to listen to his colleagues, I will listen to my heart and I struck a deal with a seller in Jaipur (Delhi registered)

2014 Ninja 650 and 17k done!

I booked my bus ticket to Jaipur on the 15th September for 16th early morning bus! I had to take a loan from my wife as dad decided not to buy me one..

I reached the bus stand and got into the bus at 8:04 AM.. I was told the bus will reach Jaipur by 1 pm but it took quite a long time! i reached at 2:30 PM.. the seller picked me up from the stop where I got down from the bus.. Yes, I was scared just like when I purchased my Ninja 250 from Bhopal.. after countering my thoughts, we went to his house and I saw the beast! He handed me the keys and I took a short test ride! I had a test ride of 3 other Ninja 650s in Noida but nothing was as sweet as this one! engine came to life on first self and engine sounded sweet.. might have been abused as he said he rides along with other super bikes on Sundays!

We got all the formalities done and I left Jaipur at 5PM and reached home by 8:40 PM in Indirapuram.. which is close to 300 kms in 3hrs and 40 mins..

About the Ninja 650 - Mind blowing performance.. I didn't go past 110 kmph except maybe 3 times where I touched 150 kmph once and 120 kmph twice..

Mileage is fantabulously similar to the Ninja 250.. 650 returned a mindblowing avg of north to 28 kmpl

Comfort ? It is way more comfortable than Ninja 250 in terms of riding stance and the seat cushion..

The deal was great for a 650cc.. only thing that needs change is the front tire which I have already placed an order for.. I am looking forward for a tour next week..
