I haven't been very active recently! probably because my Black Pearl hadn't munched enough miles or maybe because she never caused any problems for me.. Never the less, I wasn't active because I don't use tapatalk as much as I used to!

Coming to the point.. I have a major update

    This is what happened:

I was with my friend. we were on ninja 250, I was showing him around as this was his first visit to Delhi.. I dropped him off in his Hotel and I was riding my way to Indirapuram from Sector 18 flyover which is almost 5 kms long.

I was cruising at 140 kmph on my Ninja 250 and something just went past me.. Very silent as well! doing 140 kmph and being overtaken got on my nerves.. I noticed it was a Ninja 650 and I didn't even try to twist the throttle. Instead, I slowed down to 100 kmph and then stopped for a moment and continued my way home!

I was amazed by the way that bike just got past me without making any noise!

That 650 bug bit me and I got the itch to upgrade to a bigger bike! Not that I wasn't happy with the Ninja 250s performance or anything..

I spoke with my dad and he agreed. We both started looking out for Ninja 650 and Benelli 600i as the alternate option from the used bike market.

my dad was stringent about getting a bike Chennai and hence I started looking out for bikes from Chennai! there were pretty decent offers and at the same time very good offers. I tried my best to negotiate which was almost done..

Meanwhile, I discussed with @Archer84 and threw a couple of queries here in xBhp forum for 600i..

Archer84 aka Karthik advised me about the maintenance and spare costs for 600i. not that the Ninja 650 is easier on the pocket, but atleast the N650 market is vast and spares can be imported at cheaper price.. so I decided to leave 600i and continued my search for Ninja 650.. I simply surfed through olx that night and found a very good deal for a 2016 Ninja 650. Got my dad to discuss with the owner and we were about to finalize that bike.. but like any other Indian pop would do, he discussed with his so called colleagues who decided to throw an atom bomb on me! my dad listened to their words and decided not to get me a Super bike! saying it is very dangerous blah blah blah!

well, that night was truly horrible.. hated those people to the core and like any other person whose dreams had been shattered I was upset and angry..

That is when my heart played a major role.. If dad wants to listen to his colleagues, I will listen to my heart and I struck a deal with a seller in Jaipur (Delhi registered)

    2014 Ninja 650 and 17k done!

I booked my bus ticket to Jaipur on the 15th September for 16th early morning bus! I had to take a loan from my wife as dad decided not to buy me one..

I reached the bus stand and got into the bus at 8:04 AM.. I was told the bus will reach Jaipur by 1 pm but it took quite a long time! i reached at 2:30 PM.. the seller picked me up from the stop where I got down from the bus.. Yes, I was scared just like when I purchased my Ninja 250 from Bhopal.. after countering my thoughts, we went to his house and I saw the beast! He handed me the keys and I took a short test ride! I had a test ride of 3 other Ninja 650s in Noida but nothing was as sweet as this one! engine came to life on first self and engine sounded sweet.. might have been abused as he said he rides along with other super bikes on Sundays!

We got all the formalities done and I left Jaipur at 5PM and reached home by 8:40 PM in Indirapuram.. which is close to 300 kms in 3hrs and 40 mins..

About the Ninja 650 - Mind blowing performance.. I didn't go past 110 kmph except maybe 3 times where I touched 150 kmph once and 120 kmph twice..

Mileage is fantabulously similar to the Ninja 250.. 650 returned a mindblowing avg of north to 28 kmpl

Comfort ? It is way more comfortable than Ninja 250 in terms of riding stance and the seat cushion..

The deal was great for a 650cc.. only thing that needs change is the front tire which I have already placed an order for.. I am looking forward for a tour next week..
Wow, Congratulations bro you should post some pics

      • One ride and two accidents

Went for a solo ride as usual last Sunday. The total distance was just about 200 kilometers, but suffered a calf muscle tear and a freak accident. The gravel just gave way....probably due to an aftereffect of the monsoon; nobody uses the road; inaccessible on four wheels; or may be I got distracted. I mean it just happened.

I was in full riding gear and in ankle boots and that's the reason I got up without a scratch and went about the ride. Finally, it's our Karizma ZMR which saved the day else I would have to push the bike for 40 odd kilometers or may have just walked the way back with a torn calf! Trust me, the Karizma is still a bullet-proof bike. The morning of the ride, I was telling my wife that may be it's time to move to a cruiser and then this happened. Had it been a Harley or a Royal Enfield, I along with the bike would have been doomed. As the cam was at 140 degrees wide angle, you won't be able to make out the slope. Eerily enough, my bike's chain came off in the same vicinity last year!! I have posted the video on YouTube and am sharing it here with you. All I can say is ALWAYS WEAR YOUR RIDING GEAR ON RIDES!!

BTW....any idea for forward foot controls....seriously please.

Hello guys, recently I had to stop at a signal. I turned off the bike. Later when I turned on the key, LEDs of the speedometer assembly was partially working. (No glow on the right side) recently, yesterday when I turned on the key left side LEDs are not working. It looks bad at night. Only in the center portion there is glow. Don't know when it will go off. I also have 5yr expended warranty but I don't think it will cover electrical / electronic parts. Any idea how to get this fixed? Cab the LEDs be replaced ?

Looks like the speedo is faulty and you can claim warranty.

              Hello Team,

This is my first post, I had recently picked a used ZMR. It has done around 10.5 k kms so far. Its a genuine bike & was serviced in HASS only.
It was last serviced in march 2017.

Now things i have done so far are :

              1) Changed engine oil to shell ax7 10w-40 but used 1 lts only.
              2) Got the chain Slack adjusted.
              3) Inspected & Cleaned air filter.
              4) Ordered NGK G Power spark plug from safexbikes.com

What I am yet to do :

              1) Chain clean & lubed
              2) Chain Slack alignment ( it shows 4 bars on left side & 2 bars on right side)
              3) Replacing both the brake pads.
              4) Upgrading the HL bulb with good 55w bulb.

              Issues I am facing :

              1) Mileage issues. I am getting around 20 kmpl in the city usage with sedate riding. Its low as i know i should get somewhere around 33-35. i keep the recommended air pressure in both the tires.
              2) My front wheel doesn't rotate freely. I noticed it today while i was filling air in the tires. Is this is the culprit behind the low mileage ?. Upon asking the my FNG, he said i have to replace the whole caliper, which i doubt. I am yet to take the second opinion from another mech.
              3) False gear shifting
              4) Notchy gear shifts
              5) Difficult to find neutral
              6) No Neutral light comes up

              Confused on :

              1) After replacing oil, oil filter wasn't cleaned or even touched. What should be done in this case. ?
              2) Brake oil. Should i replace it now or should i continue as it is ?

Also, i would like to know if anything else need to be replaced as preventive measure ?
Will post the pics of bike in a day or two. Thanks in advance.

Any ways, Got the chain cleaned n lubed again, slack alignment done, Neutral light comes up sometimes, Brake oil replaced n bleeded, Caliper was taken out cleaned & serviced but there is still some resistance caused by caliper which doesn't allow the wheel to move freely. I guess i have to replace the brake pads first, still if the issue persists then have to change the disc. Will keep you guys updated with the results. And yeah, looks like the mileage issue is due to front wheel not moving freely.

Your Front break issue is due to Piston and/or caliper pin sticking. Rebuild the break caliper with new piston and seals. Lubricate caliper pin with red rubber grease.
Its due to break fluid not replaced for long.
Low fuel average and gear issue is might suggest irregular oil change. Is the engine is stock ? Is it smoking ? Check piston ring and bore by reving hard and check exhaust for smoke. Check clutch free play and see if you can clean Fuel injector in the workshop.

Zmr brakes have some resistance to movement ,Its common, Low mileage issue might be due to clogged fuel injector or faulty oxygen sensor.Get the fuel injector cleaned and if that doesnt solve the problem get the oxygen sensor cleaned/replaced.Milage issue will be resolved.

Engine is stock, no mods has been done on it. Will check the bore by reving hard, thanks for the pointer. Will check for clutch free play too & clean the injector by add additive. thanks

I own a ZMR since 2010. I have maintained both disc brakes in perfect condition. The front disc pads are grazing the disc rotor very lightly. If I turn the wheel freely, I can just hear a light scraping sound, but the wheel doesn't stop rotating because of friction, it stops on its own after 2-3 free rotations. This should be the ideal front brake condition in all ZMR's.

You don't need to replace anything, these are Nissin disc brakes, they are really high quality. I think the disc fluid wasn't changed for too many years, so the caliper piston O-rings got swollen or corroded. Get the caliper piston o-rings replaced by genuine new ones. Don't scratch the piston surface during removal or refitting. Use new sealed pack of disc fluid while refitting the caliper, MOST IMPORTANTLY perform REVERSE BLEEDING after inserting the pistons. Reverse bleeding is even easier than the normal bleeding process, just buy a 50 ml syringe and a clear tube to do so.

I had the same problem in my brother's Pulsar 180. I did all the procedures I explained above. But even after all that, the disc brake had friction. I decided to drive it at high speeds for a few kms and kept braking hard to heat up the front brakes. The whole brake assembly got hot after coming home, so I poured cold water on it. After that, everything was fine, the disc pads don't graze the rotor anymore. You may try this after refitting the brakes, maybe this will get you the desired result.

Disc pads are not the culprit most of the times, don't replace them if they have enough pad material left. Clean the entire caliper with pressure wash, then lubricate the caliper pins, the screws which goes through both disc pads and hold them in place, the metal plate on which the top of disc pads rests. Don't put too much grease around the disc pads, use as little amount as possible. You don't want even tiny amount of grease to trickle down on the disc pads afterwards.

NOTE: Use system-G regularly. My valves and injectors are in pristine condition because I kept using it since buying the bike.

Yes, caliper indeed looked made up of high quality. Although i got the o rings but that didn't fit in so continued with the old ones as they appear to be in good condition. Regarding reverse bleeding, i didn't done that, normal bleeding was only done. Will do it next time.

There is still some resistance to front wheel to move freely. Will try pouring cold water on assembly too. Thanks for the pointer. Caliper greesing was done too.

Currently, i am testing the mileage post caliper rebuild. Front brake pad has much life left. Will try pressurize water wash if mileage issue isn't resolved.

System G isn't available to nearest petrol bunk here. Have been asking every BP outlet, still no luck. Not available on amazon.in too. I guess have to use STP/Liqui moly cleaners. Hope is safe.

BTW, Clocked 177 kms post tankfull & the console still shows 6 bars of fuel left out of 8.

I don't think its available online. However, u can get it in a market for 275/- bucks, suggesting you to buy oem ones only.
