Lately I've been facing some issues ....

    1. There is a weird noise coming from the handlebar (something like "Kaddddd") whenever i turn the bike (mostly right side) . The same noise is louder when I press front brakes .

    2. Gears have become too hard . Sometimes they don't shift in one go .
For problem one, do you face any issues while taking turns, like bike refusing to take turn at speeds? and bike going in a snake motion, especially in bad roads. If the Tak sound is coming from fork under hard braking, then its time for you to change the steering cone set (called 'ball races kit' by Hero). It would cost you around 500 bucks to replace them.

For hard gear shifts, may be due to engine oil. When did you last change the oil? If its more than 1500 kms, better change it. Also, please get the clutch adjusted. Loose and tight clutch might result in hard gear shifts. There should be a free play of around 5mm.

Buy back your bike from the person you sold it to and get it TN registered.
[My gut feeling says that you may buy a ZMR again ]

Hey.. I was facing the same issue with my Black Pearl due to which the braking efficiency reduced too..

Got the Ball Races changed completely from the Shocker.. (The Fork side) and the noise is completely gone and the braking efficiency increased.. after a long time hard braking is again possible without being scared of breaking the fork because of that creepy noise..

The Ball Races costs you Rs. 349 and the labor charges are Rs. 149.. which comes to Rs. 500/- Excluding Tax..

          Cheerss..

I will get the coneset checked by SVC this weekend . My odo reads 14000 km and my last oil change was on 11000 km (Mobil fs 10w40)

            • I seriously agree with the fact that zmr is the most under estimated bike that I've seen so far. People do not even believe that our beats return a much much higher fuel efficiency than other 200cc+ bikes. And also the fools working in hmc say zmr delivers 35 kmpl! Many people are discouraged to buy the bike just cause of the useless staff working there. I've seen such cases many times. But only the owner knows why his zmr is special!!

                      Its normal.

                      Every morning:
                      1. Let the engine idle for 30-40 seconds.
                      2. Ride < 4K RPM for the first 2-3 kms (so that the engine reaches optimum operating temp)

The ride will be happy for the remaining of the day.

Yes, you are hundred percent right. It is one of the most underestimated bike. I was on a tour in this december with my friends which covered 700 km in a span of 3 days with some sight-seeing and we had three bike. One was my extreme, another my friends ZMR and other one a Unicorn dazzler. While the dazzler and my extreme both returned mileage in range of 50-52 kpl, the ZMR returned 45-47 kpl. Also what i like of ZMA and ZMR is that no matter at what speed you travel, its engine feels relaxed.

Leave alone the staff, those idiots do not know how to work on FI and only discourage people to buy ZMR. While i was talking to a service advisor, during my 6th free service of extreme(i do not go to SVC after free service), i asked him what a new ZMR, now cost, and his reply was why to take it as it is an FI and is not good. Then i just left the matter altogether.
I didn't have the money to buy a ZMR when i bought the extreme or i would have bought the ZMR, because of only one thing and that is FI. I also wish that HERO launches the extreme with FI and i will sell my present extreme for that one.

+1 , I am a big fan of honda engines but somehow thr designs r not so catchy compared to competetion, on d other hand hero who knows d beat of Indian hearts mix style n technology to cater to all kind of bikers. Many ppl told me to stay away from zmr giving lame rsns like mileage is only 35, fi is not Gud n maintenance is difficult, costly compared to p220, no top end, no pick up blah blah blah....
But i's always optimistic abt honda engines n i's blown away wid looks of zmr n thr is no other affordable tourer wid decent performance n mileage out thr in d market, I made my choice n m very happy abt it. Cheers to zmr....:-)

I had people saying the same thing when I decided to go for the ZMR.. I personally loved the bike and I didn't care about what others felt or thought about it its my personal choice.. i am gonna live with it.. besides.. I had a Karizma for 6 years.. and i know how loyal the engine of the Karizma is.. the speed doesn't matter.. but the life of the Engine matters most.. and thats what ZMR and ZMA have to offer.. I am a tourer and I didn't find any other bike matching my needs except the ZMR..

I love the huge looks of the bike.. its sooo appealing.. In Nepal everyone was looking at my bike.. asking the cost.. mileage.. performance.. I didn't have to tell them anything.. my friend who has a RTR 180 told them everything about my Black Pearl..

I am a proud owner of the ZMR and was a proud owner of the 2003 Karizma
