Just to be sure that we're on the same page, Abhi's bike is given to a private mech and not the ASC.

This incident is forcing me to service my bike at home. Like chain lubing, oil change, sprocket cleaning, etc. For major issues ill go to the center where divya bro goes.

Btw I asked this mech what must be done to downgear. Meaning more pick up. He says the rear sprocket teeth has to be increased! That's opposite of what I knew..

Reneav- many busa and ducatis and r1s come to his place for servicing. So thought he has experience in fi and other complex technologies. Plus my dad used to give his bike there for about 15yrs. So he is kind of a friend. I mean the owner. But the mech who attended my bike was a newbie.

Ps-get yourself some bungee cords too.

Yes.. to downgear (undergear) your bike.. the number on the rear teeth should increase..

stock for ZMA/ZMR comes with 40T.. it should be increased to 41T+ if you want to downgear it... or you can decrease the Teeth count of front sprocket.. Stock for ZMA/ZMR is 13T.. decreasing it will increase the pick up..

We don't have much options for front teeth.. but for rear teeth i guess we might have options.. options from the Impulse or the Duke.. not sure about the Duke.. check it out if you can

Bungee Rope - Noted.. But This is going to be a one day ride.. so not sure if it is required.. though I have it with me in my office cabin all my gears are in my office only

Oopsie! My mishtake. Abhi bro, I gave the wrong info. You need a rear sprocket with 2 extra teeth or a front with less teeth. I basically explained you over gearing. My bad.

+1. Also, I do most of the things like oil change, AF change, fairing tightening, chain lubing, clutch/acc cables lubing, sprocket change, HL change, dry and wet wash myself. Need to learn bleeding brakes and replacing pads myself.

Problem is I need to learn how to remove and put back the fairing! Never have I opened the fairing fully before. After my exams ill give it a try. Just opening and re-fitting it back. If there is no issue in that, then ill start all the minor servicings by myself!

Well... I don't know what he was doing assuming things.. and 4000 kms is quite too long mate.. always check for leakages... I always look at my bike's territory to see if any new leakage mark is found..

Mechanics will do anything to make you fool.. so beware of it.. at least whenever you get a chance to check/inspect your bike.. do it.. if too much of oil is leaking.. it can cause engine seize..

I said rope cause I suggest you to avoid using a bag. You'll strain yourself and your shoulders will ache. Instead tie it to the rear seat as your riding alone.

I would suggest to take :

Incase of tubeless tyres: carry repair kit
Incase of tube type tyres to carry addtional tube
Water and some source of Vitamin C
Check oil levels, tyre pressures, chain slack and cleanliness and should be good to go

                        • Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR

Ok.. So this is what I noticed yesterday with my bike on my way back home..

                          1. The Brakes turned hard.. the front brakes were not efficient and they were hard.
                          2. Tappet Noise
                          3. The self start would not work when bike is in Neutral and it would work only if I hold the clutch and find the hot spot.
                          4. The Self Start would not work when in gear and have to find the hot spot while holding the clutch to start
                          5. Front brake switch had to be fixed

So I decided the postpone the trip to Sunday and go to the ASC on Saturday (today)..

I wake up early morning at 8:10 (it is early on a Saturday) did all the morning chores, had my breakfast and left my house by 9.. i took her for a spin so that I can clock more than 20kms and I was roaming around here and there around Indirapuram, Vaishali, Anand Vihar took the NH24 and hit Vaishali again where the ASC is..

Told them it is a minor issue and took the bike inside the ASC..

A young guy (so called mechanic) came and asked me what the problem is..

I told him all the above..

so he started off with the Self Start issue..

he tried few things and then he said.. we will check your battery.. then I told him.. the battery is already dead.. but self does work and I showed him by holding the clutch, the bike started..

again.. like a smart guy.. he went and picked up the battery checker and showed me that the battery is dead.. I was like dhaah.. the battery is dead and that is what i told you..

I didn't understand his logic behind the battery dead and thats the reason the bike is not taking self when in neutral.. Angry with his stupid logic asked him to get a new battery and try it.. That idiot got another battery and tried to start it.. it didn't start.. then he started playing around with the starter relay and he put the blame on it.. I said ok.. please try with a new one and to my surprise.. it worked.. that idiot kept holding the self start button and screwed the battery even more.. I just got irritated and told him to stop with that stupid work and pack my bike up and give me..

and he was saying the brakes seems fine etc etc.. you don't have to do anything..

So i decided to just give a damn to them and move to Devine Automobiles in Nodia Sector 59.. which is some good 6 kms away from Sahib Automobiles..

When I went to Sec 59, noticed they have closed and moved their service center to Sector 58 which is another 1 km away.. irritated already.. something was running in my mind.. why don't I take it to the D Bike Guru alias Castrol Zone who always helped me with minor issues that i had with my bike.. very minor issues... used to visit their service center when my office was in Sec 58..

well.. being Sunday Devine automobiles was closed so I decided to go to D Bike Guru... they were happy on seeing me there.. me and my friend @manojmsoni always go there and help them with the minor issues on our bikes.. besides.. me and manoj always were outside after lunch trying to do something with our bikes

So I told him the above issues i faced with my bike and they started working on it..

first thing to be fixed was the brake being hard issue.. He removed the entire brake assembly.. took out the pads.. dusted off the dust from the disc assembly.. applied grease.. washed the pads... and fit it back.. then he removed the brake lever removed the small pump and he cleaned that part as well and fixed it back.. and viola.. the front brake was as smooth as a new disc bikes

then he came to the second.. tappet noise.. he removed the tank.. and he removed both the head seals.. found the tappet inside was fine and the tappet outside was little loose and he adjusted.. meanwhile.. my bike tank had almost 8lts of fuel and we had to remove all of it.. as he didn't have that fuel stopper clip.. almost lost 500 ml more fuel

so after he adjusted the tappet.. he put the tank back on.. then we came to the rear disc brake.. while he was cleaning.. me being smart pressed the rear brake pedal almost 10 times forgetting that the rear disc brake was removed.. now this pushed the piston out hard to push it back in and all the oil was pushed out.. he asked me to press the pedal another 5 times and he removed the piston and removed all the oil... pushed back the piston in and fixed it..

he cleaned the rear disc brake assembly.. and when I saw the rear disc pads.. they were completely out of shape.. I don't understand why the ASC don't even check on these basic things during a regular service.. my bad luck i didn't have that much money to spend in my hands and they didn't have it in stock.. so I will have to get it changed after my salary is credited the next month..

so after fixing this.. we went to the brake light issue.. the switch of the front brake was not working well.. it used to keep the lights on as the switch was not being triggered by the brake lever..

He removed the brake lever and Indian Jugaad way.. he used the resisting electrical tape.. taped the part of the lever which touches the brake light switch and fixed it back and tada.. it was fixed.. I was quite happy with the way they handled stuff and thats where the difference comes.. these guys have lots of experience and they made my day..

Then came the self start issue... he adjusted the clutch cable and that fixed the hot spot start issue.. it starts now whenever i hold the clutch.. next thing I have to do is change the battery and the rear tire..

Any guesses on how much all this would have cost me??

well.. they charged me just 200/-

I will be uploading the pics in some time.. I am uploading them..
