What riding gears were you using?Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostGuys I crashed on my way to Gokarna today. Stacks of hay were thrown all over the road at a state highway near Sirsi and the bike skid badly. Left fairing, my helmet and left knee guard are scratched. I hope scratches from the fairing can be removed. I'm fine and I did the remaining 100 kms to Gokarna. Will be back tomorrow. Can't stress how important riding gears are!

Moved to Zapper Q 110/90-18 TT after PSD TL of the same spec. Satisfied so far.Originally posted by 111diablo111 View Postguys which set of Tyre will be best for ZMR??
Well, just a scratched left fairing and nothing else (on the bike, got the bent gear shift lever corrected by a nearby mech). I tried polishing it and some of it faded away. Rest, the bike has excellent quality parts. No damage!Originally posted by sounakray View PostArrey @Divya Sharan, glad to know that you are not hurt, bro! Wish you a save ride always! Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
Short Ride report:
Just returned from Mahabaleshwar to complete the running period, it's been more than 1.6 months I haven't ridden on highways, last time I rode to Vengurla (MH-Goa border), Konkan with my wifey, but after that I couldn't find time exclusively for riding as such or I was tired of riding RTR/ RE.
I asked couple of my childhood buddies if they can join in with me for this short ride and immediately they agreed to join in, they are not into riding as they use their bikes just for commuting purpose and it was fun to be with them as we did memorizing some old memories of such short rides.
Bikes: Fazer 150, FZ 150 and mine ZMR.
We start of from Pune at 6:30 AM in the freezing cold morning hence we were cursing at 65kmph and obviously I can't go beyond 80kmph, our plan was to ride till venna lake and return, as soon as we started ascending Khambataki ghat just before Wai there were a wide grin on my face i started liking the FI response if my ZMR, pleasant torque delivery and FI was responding smoothly, i barely shifted the gears, we had breakfast near Wai then decided to to visit Dhom dam and relaxed there for one hour, then we rode to famous gliding point just before panchagani did some photoshoots, rode till venna lake had strawberry with cream and started our return journey.
What I like about ZMR:
Comfortable riding position (though i am still getting used to it)
Torque which any tourer needed the most.
FI which i really missed in my old carb bikes.
FE: it returned close to 39 KMPL, it still under running period but I just loved it better than my ex RE.
Cons:
RVM: even at 30 kmph it just vibrates as if earthquake shakes the earth, i tried tightening up once but I failed, any ideas?
Tyres: puny, didn't create any confidence in me to trow ZMR in corner which i used to do in my RTR, may be they will go off in next couple of months any suggestion regarding M45/ PSD or for that matter ralco?
Lights: not that bright, if i change it to 55/60 warranty of battery will void or entire 5 years engine warranty would avoid, i didn't get satisfied answer from Hero showroom.
Vibrations: at 4 to 5 RPM but i presume everyone here facing this issue, I haven't crossed beyond 6k RPM hence can't comment on it.
Here are some photos (please bear with those I took it from mobile phone)

Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
Glad you're safe and sound.Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostThanks guys. I'm fine. Getting ready for the return journey now. Had I seen hay, I'd have slowed down.
Its part of a bigger story. I was following a bolero in state/country roads. There was approx 20 feet distance between us and I was in 60s when this bolero skids and goes off-road. I slam both brakes but alas both of us were too fast as we'd hit hay on road. I was thrown off. Bolero suffered a rim bend and a broken axle/differential due to it going offroad and stopping into a 3 to 4 feet deep ditch. Anyways, lesson learnt. I'll avoid state highways from my next trip.
Two questions :
1) Weren't you too close to the vehicle in front (unless you were going to overtake him)? I usually keep at least a few vehicle lengths away from a vehicle unless I overtake (even then, I ensure there's no oncoming vehicle at speed). I know you have a lot of highway experience, so I'm just wondering what happened.
2) In your panic braking situation, would ABS brakes have been of any use?
Finally, everyone should realize the importance of riding gears since @Divya Sharan didn't have a scratch on him. I see many youngsters out on highways, that too without a helmet, forget other gears. All it takes is ONE accident.
For your ZMR, I suggest using waxpol polishing compound, it is not too harsh, and will take care of some of the superficial scratches. There are many deep scratches, and I'm afraid nothing can be done about them, consider those to be battle scars on the bike
Once again, glad nothing happened to you or the bike.

Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
1. I guess I was, but is was purely a bad luck! I tried overtaking him twice, but he'd not let me pass. Hence I dropped back by 3-4 bike lengths (hence the 20 feet claim above). Suddenly he braked and skid off road and I panicked. I didn't even get to see the hay spread while I was on the bike. I fell without knowing why I fell. Later, I saw hay.Originally posted by AK3D View Post1) Weren't you too close to the vehicle in front (unless you were going to overtake him)? 2. I doubt ABS would have helped. I never locked the wheels, I slipped.
But, I observed one thing - Bank angle sensor. My bike switched off within 30 sec after falling down. I parked it to the side and attempted starting it. The key was in ON position. It would crank but not start. Then, I switched off the ket from ON to OFF. Switched it back ON and voila. I didn't know this earlier.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

While planning your next trip, seriously consider including other ZMR owners from Pune (including myself, of course
)
Add for your cons:
Yes, even my RVMs always vibrates, and the image always appears hazy.
Even I'm planning to go for a 55/60w bulb setup. Does it really void the warranty? It doesn't even involve any change to the wiring, and how are the hero SVC guys going to find it out anyway?
Vibrations: I feel them too, but I'm never sure if it's the bike's problem, or mine! :P I'm used to the ultra refined engine of the Hinds Unicorn, and most other Indian bike would feel harsh in its comparison.

Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
No need to change the wiring.. just plug out the stock bulb and insert in a Night breaker plus 55/60W h4 its a direct fit.. The SVC guys will never find out that you changed the bulb.. just to be safe if anything goes wrong related to FI or battery change to stock before going to claim warranty.. many people are making use of Night breaker and no one has any problem..
