Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
The more you clean, the more wider the pores become, a result of which more dust starts entering. Without your knowledge. The symptoms are such that, you will never relate them to the filter. Like your head seal leaking due to accumulation of dirt, etc. My engine was saved at the right time by discarding the stupid filter and going back for stock. Suggest you to please do the same asap. If you want the roar, remove the snorkel. Its a 30-40 seconds job that's it. And won't harm the engine either.Originally posted by dvsingh14 View Post

Gulf pride 4T (mineral) and Shell AX7 (semi synthetic) are good for our ZMRs.

In the 1000 rupees range, Mobil1 10w40 is great. Lower down, Vijay gave good options.Originally posted by fast_ferocious View PostUsed this Motul oil. Done 3500 kms.. when do u think i should change.

Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
Some general knowledge,
Its always better to use a mineral oil and change oil more frequently than use a fully synthetic one and change less frequently. From experience the Karizma does well with Shell oils, you can go for AX7 it is good and gets the job done, costs only 400ish, but then again oil performance depends on use so choose wisely.
(Just to share, I once used 300V on my D100, good oil inspite of the price, but I picked up my friend from Palakkad and he rode the bike for some 150ish kms, Palakkad to Cochin while coming back to Kollam and that was the end of it, had to change at 1.5k kms.)
After market air filters such as K&N etc helps to level out the power band and you can freely rev to 10k and all that at the cost of torque, but in the long run it wont do you good, as a friend who worked in the industry once mentioned on GearHeads, the more you resuse, the larger the pores would get. It is always best to stick with stock and change(dont bother with cleaning) as required rather than following the SVC guidelines.Motorcycling Experience:

wanted to try out a full synthetic.
Why did the 300v give up so soon?? It should easily come for Upto 3.5k-4k kms.. One of my friends uses it, and the oil loses life only after 4k kms.. (Under hard usage+ chennai heat..)

Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
I opted for 300V because I heard it goes upto 6k kms and in my position(I stay in a restricted college hostel at Bangalore) changing oil seemed like a far fetched idea at the time.Originally posted by kmk0311 View PostI used to use ax7

The reason why the oil gave up well, one side I have to do 750ish kms to ride to Bangalore and the motor would be screaming at 70~80kmph which is redline speeds for the D100. But inspite of that everything went well and exceptionally smooth when I went from Kollam to Bangalore and after close to a month of being idle it did well even when I rode back from Bangalore to Palakkad, but from there my friend wanted to ride as we had too much luggage and he didnt want to be the one carrying it, he rode for some 150kms, and he's used to riding a Fazer, these low displacement bikes need special attention to prevent knocking as the power band it too narrow and the TPS is stupid and kicks in only at mid throttle position, and my friend was the least patient. So after 150kms or so the bike started reeking of oil and I took over, by the time I reached Kollam there was too much drag and the performance had dropped considerably, hence I opted to change.
Even now many people tell me it was my misjudgement to change the oil at 1.5k, some of the stupid lot even tell me its because I used such an expensive oil on a 100mil. But at the end of the day, I vote for peace of mind, and it has never failed me once.
BTW since you mentioned 0W oils, AGIP sells 0W60 for less than what the 300V costs. Was tempted but I didnt want to spend close to a k, so dropped the plan and decided to stick with Mineral/Diesel oils.Motorcycling Experience:

Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
People tell a lot of things, like the stock hero oil running for 6000kms. IMO it is useless after 1000kms, but until then it's good.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostI opted for 300V because I heard it goes upto 6k kms

I'm not sure about 300v going Upto 6k kms, but it hold goods for Upto 4k.
I have to change my motul 7100 after 2k kms cuz its leaking. Waiting for 2k.. If not for the drain bolt and head bolt leaks, I would peacefully use it for upto 4k kms in my zmr
And regarding the 0w oil, you were planning to use that in your zma?? And is it advisable to use such a grade?

Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
Well i guess 300v works best on liquid cooled engines (R15, KTM's and ninja are doing 4k+ kms)... Friend tried on 220 and it lost its properties after 1.5k kms. Better stop using Motul FS on Air cooled or oil cooled engines. Its designed for high Rpm's though where extreme heat is generated. But i dont know why it fails in Air cooled and oil cooled engines :/ Maybe someone can explain..Originally posted by kmk0311 View PostI used to use ax7

As far as Motul synthetics and ZMA goes,Originally posted by kmk0311 View PostI have to change my motul 7100 after 2k kms cuz its leaking. Waiting for 2k.. If not for the drain bolt and head bolt leaks, I would peacefully use it for upto 4k kms in my zmr

Motul 5100 20W50,
Decent oil, did some 4k kms on it before draining, the oil was a tad too heavy but got the job done, though I wouldnt recommend it solely due to the Price vs Performance part.
Motul 7100 10W40,
"Fu..Fu..Fu..." that was the exact feeling I had after I did barely some 100kms on the oil, it just didnt go well with the motor, though I didnt face any leakage. Used for some 2k kms if im not wrong.
Regarding using 0W60, I was planning on using it on the D100 as I dont use the ZMA anymore. And as far as compatibility is concerned, the oil is within the recommended working range for both motors as ZMA's recommended grade is 10W30 and D100's is 20W40.Motorcycling Experience:

Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
I used Mobil1 when I was in Chennai. Loved it. Used it a couple of times over 9k kms. Rough drain intervals at 4200 to 4500 kms.Originally posted by abhi7013 View PostAny idea where i can source mobil1?

Rajajinagar has a dealership for the same IIRC. Due to some reason Motul oils suck in a Karizma. Moreover, w50 oils make the bike sluggish. Takes ages to reach 70 odd.
The only reason I don't use Mobil1 or Rimula anymore is the affordability factor. Mobil1 is a little bit on the pricier side now. I used to get it for 790 rupees 2 years back. Rimula is priced at 320 rupees, but then my usage pattern meant draining it every month.
