Touring friendly riding position of the new P220 DTSi
Checked out the 2009 P220 DTSi again today.. apart from experiencing the handling becoming better, I also found that the handlle bar on this new P220 is slightly higher compared to the one on my bike, resulting in a more relaxed riding posture.
The riding position is still much sporty than the Karizma but it is also more relaxed and comfortable than the older P220 DTS-Fi.. I personally liked the position on the new one..
Would try to find out if it would be possible to modify the same on my bike as the new riding position is definitely much more touring friendly.

The position might be comfier only by a bit, but not so radically different that a person will feel a whole lot lesser strained.Originally posted by payeng View Post

Moreover the stiffer suspension setup of the Dts-i will a take big toll on the back and arms of the rider making it equally if not worse off for touring._________________________

Yes the susupension is stiffer on the P220 DTSi but it has helped it quite a lot in the handling department.. the new P220 takes to corners with more confidence now. It now feels equally stiff like the RTR's suspension.
But still I feel that the new riding position is more comfortable on the spine, even if by a small margin.. the slight curve on my spine while reaching for the handle bars on my P220 is not there on the new P220 DTSi.
By the way, can't the Handlebars be raised without making the suspension stiffer..?? Maybe there are spacers on the new P220 DTSi for raising the handlebar height.

I just got my bike's front+rear stiffened, its now almost as stiff as the new 220. Tell you what, I just hate the way the road undulations are getting transmitted to me, despite the improvement in cornering confidence. Given the road conditions for majority of Indian roads, the stiff setup will definitely be a pain in the behind as compared to the softer setup on the Fi.Originally posted by payeng View PostYes the susupension is stiffer on the P220 DTSi but it has helped it quite a lot in the handling department.. the new P220 takes to corners with more confidence now. I am not sure, but one thing is for sure Bajaj would not have alterted the design of the Clip-ons. I think its the change in the rake angle for the front fork thats changed the position of the handlebars.Originally posted by payeng View PostBy the way, can't the Handlebars be raised without making the suspension stiffer..?? The handle bars dint get higher coz of the stiffer suspension.

I feel the P220 handlers are too much turned towards the rider. It would have been very much more relaxed if it was a bit more parallel to the ride. This might be becuase it was designed for a 5.5ft guy but i doubt it.Originally posted by prafultripathy View PostI just got my bike's front+rear stiffened, its now almost as stiff as the new 220. Firstly, the tyre huggers are not of that great quality. They have snapped off on encountering craters in many of my friend's bikes.
Secondly, u cant fit it on the 200/220 as the 200 AND 220 dont have slots on their swingarms for these to be fitted. When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

it is the black plastic thing just above the rear wheel.. hugging it with both arms ending at either side of the swing arm.. the kind u see on p150 & p180.
1 problem i know of is if you have that tyre hugger and you happen to ride through slushy mud and some of it sticks to your rear wheel, you might even get stuck there itself and will have to clean up (while yourself sitting in the mud) as the bike wouldnt budge from its stuck position.
I know this b'cos my friend had a similar experience on his p180.Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
