@P220 Gurus.. I have an August 2009 220 DTSi (1st lot).. and has done 24700km And have a query
When I cold start the bike.. the idling hovers somewhere around 1000.. at that time.. I can hear a distinct kat-kat noise coming from somewhere in the engine and I am not sure what it is.. any pointers?Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

The autochoke has worked for a total of 3 times since I got the bike.. so I don't miss it that much.. The noise has been there.. but recently PBK reduced the idling while tuning the carb. Thats when the noise gets pronounced and hence noticeable. AND it is not the starter clutch(Changed that a long time back).
Niks_Devil sez it could be the timing chain.. I need a little help here..Advice is a form of nostalgia.

Since the Pulsar is a noisy bike as such, its difficult to isolate the sound without hearing it!
Can you verify with any similarly aged bike if the similar sound exists?
Usually the sparkplugs make a constant Kirrrr sounds that's the Dtsi noise that's always there.
Timing chain would be doubtful, as its a pretty good quality part and does not fail that easily.I'm still on stock timing chain!

I had this noise from day 1 in my 220. SVC folks say its coz of the oneway clutch! they added few spring to it and it still was the same.Originally posted by antz.bin View Post@P220 Gurus.. I have an August 2009 220 DTSi (1st lot).. and has done 24700km And have a query

Yes. The Bybre. Pls enquire if it is in stock. My front caliper has some defects. It feels like pressing the clutch.. To change it, there's no stock here for the last 2 months.Originally posted by yash3 View Postyou mean the BYBRE

now i can safely say that the noise is on cold engine only. started the bike in the morning... it was there.. warmed it up and took it to SS.. restarted.. it was gone. the noise is not a krrrrr.. it is a kat kat.. at 1k rpm... it happens at a delay of .2 seconds from the firing... on each firing.. hence clearly heard...Originally posted by Praful View PostSince the Pulsar is a noisy bike as such, its difficult to isolate the sound without hearing it!
