  • @All: This is an update...for all those who did not know this...

The Pulsar 220 DTSFi has an oil strainer & a centrifugal Oil filter nested inside the clutch cover. This needs to be cleaned at 10,000kms. The manual also states that the same should be cleaned at 500-750 Km i.e. after the first oil change of the runnin-in period.

Next service when you visit PBK, insist on cleaning the strainer and the oil filter. It hardly takes 15 minutes but ensures better care. I insisted on this in my second service and PBK did it (with a slight reluctance).
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

I have to back chetan on this one. A 220 in full flow is pure fun. It is a different cloud level...have started discoverin that lately with my Predator...

I too have to agree on this part that when 220 starts pulling....it becomes a monster(personal experience as most of the times me and nv are together only for riding)....!!!!

                • Guys just a quick question.

Two or three days back, I had a talk with the motul distributor in Mumbai. He says synthtic oil is not good for Pulsar 220. To back his claim, he gave me a number for one of his friend who is also a dealer in Motul oils and told me to ask him those reasons. On discussion with this guy, I was told that there is a design flaw in all pulsar 220 where in the petrol seeps into the engine oil area and due to this the viscosity of the oil falls down. Hence it is recommended to use synthetic but the change interval needs to be reduced to say probably 3500 to 4000kms instead of 10000k interval. Is that true?

                  Please give me your opinions

                  Regards,
                  Kailash

                  • Motul 300 v

I have been using it since my baby's odo read 5 k kms..
                    Its 29 k Now.
Its a different feeling. But be prepared to see the leaking cylinder head if you don't replace the Cam shaft cover after every 10 k kms.
But, i have been changing the oil every 3k-4k kms, so can't comment on its properties at 10 k really.

It may be true... but changing the oil at 3-4k kms interval is recommended by everyone and I guess everyone using the oil does the same.

What is this Cam shaft cover and how much does it cost to change.

                        • ^^ kailash, i think i know who gave u this theory , and if I am correct about tat person then he might be true cause he has worked on a lot of bikes and knows alot of tech things about them he also participates on speed runs....
                          So he might be correct
Just keep changing the engine oil every 3.5K
The PBK guys are always against motul and NGKs donno why ...
Aprilia RS 125 or Honda CB400 Vtec ..... which one will it be ??? I think its gonna be NINJA ZX 6R :-)

On old xBhp MG had put up a post about details Bajaj had given him.

One of the points was that Bajaj categorically recommend not using a fully synthetic oil on the 220. And he did give a tech. reason behind it, which I don't remember now. I hope MG can throw some light on it.

@NV: Hold on the bike is still young, see how the engine opens up after the 5th service, you will be more than surprised.

Is that meant in a good way or bad?
