  • As Praful suggested, get the rings changed. I was having the same issue around 15000 kms back. They did change the piston ring & I guess also changed the piston.
    Using AMARON since July'10.

      • Just for my info.. is "Change Piston Rings" = "Run-in again"?
*Prays to God for a 'NO' in reply*
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

          No & Yes...

Well you can ride normally. But don't go over-revving for the first 500 Kms. This is just to ensure the rings are set in properly.

          • Thanks for the suggestions guys. Got the tank cleaned today at Pbk and now the bike is running absolutely fine. Actually the mechanic didn't find any water as i removed all the water initially but still as a precautionary measure i got the tank cleaned
I know this thing is common but still i feel there is a strong smell of petrol which is coming from the tank lock. Almost every pulsar have this issue but in my bike i feel the smell is stronger than rest of the bikes. Is it normal ?

Labour Charges for Tank Cleaning : Rs. 50

The second part of oil drinking is engine, I had assumed that Bajaj would have improved with time, but I guess its just not their way of doing things .
I recommend that you get the piston rings changed, at the time of replacing the rings ask them to check the cylinder walls for scoring if any. This is not covered under warranty. And its just good to get the rings replaced at 30K kms to arrest any such issues that might happen.
Oil drinking is a common issue with Pulsars, they are yet to get their Metallurgy right! And happens more with people who riding hard and long! City users are less likely to face this issue.

                  2. Battery: I've had enough of Exide. Tried it for the first two times and now I am finally on Amaron. So far so good, would recommend Amaron over Exide, cost is IIRC 1.5-1.7K!

My P200 is nearing 30k on the odo.

Problems i am facing - Loss of Pickup and Lots of Viberations from everywhere. My chainset needs replacement too.
Viberation i guess are due to the worn out chainset but i am concerned about the loss in pickup. After 6-7k rpm pickup seems to be fine but below that P150 seems to faster

                  Please suggest.

                  Thanks.

I dont remember exactly, but the cost of the rings is hardly some 200-300 bux. But the labour charges to get them changed are pretty high, almost about 500-700 bux.

Your bike needs a BIG service if a P150 is faster

Well not exactly like that..hehe but it feels sluggish in lower RPM (upto4-5k)..after 6-7k it feels responsive..

what can be the problem?? i still cant find out...i have cleaned the spark plugs, tank was cleaned recently some water had entered in it, tire pressure is ok..carb was drained at the time tank was cleaned(sone 5-6k kms back)...any thoughts on this? is de-carb of engine necessary at around 30k? i havent got it done yet..

thanks for the giving some idea about the cost

                              • Got the Pirelli Sport demons on my bike today...

                                front - 110/70
                                rear - 140/70

I feel the pickup has decreased a bit, but cant be too sure as I have just done 2-3 kms after that... Will get a clear understanding if I go on the xbhp ride on the 6th... Will post my reviews in the week later maybe...
