  • Re: Oil drain nut replacement

Completed Run in period of 1000kms today, first service done at 565kms..Few observations-
    1) Gear shifts (up and down both) are on harder side, sometimes it is difficult to find neutral. Its creating pain on left leg
    2) I think mech altered AFR ratio in first service, idle RPM in hot engine is 1200,I think he set it to leaner side as bike is giving good mielage,I am also feeling heat of engine on my right leg in traffic condition.
    3) During deaccelerating from 4000RPM to 2000RPM at this point "phat phat, misfiring type sound" from exhaust is comming.
    4) Till now I have done 2-3 quick burst upto 80km/hr..but after 700kms.
    5) Not feeling too much of difference in initial pickup compared to my old UNicorn..due to new engine or leaner AFR setting?

Please give your suggestions guys and can I go for long rides now?

If the Engine oil is bad or clutch is not adjusted properly then hard gear shifting will result.
Lean AFR will result in Exhaust Popping..
Lean AFR is the reason for poor acceleration...a properly tuned ZMA is quicker than Uni in any gear and any RPM.
Since you have completed 1,000 Kms ,you can go for long rides and do 90 Kmph without any problem...

Thanks sir for your suggestion...Will go to ASC tomorrow for tuning and clutch adjustment.Rode 500kms with this leaner setting, will it harm engine?

I too hear the phat phat sound from silencer when I try to listen very keenly. Its not very loud but once I concentrate on silencer sound its easily audible.

doesn't happen on a new vehicle...aging, dampness, water splash and corrosion over a period of time forms Aluminum oxide and jams the AFR screw....

mild popping is normal, loud popping like auto rickshaws which sounds really loud, means you have check your air cut off valve and it's efficacy....happens very rarely...

Yes its mild. And as I read somewhere in the pages of this thread- not to take tension over small things as long as performance is not affected, I have ignored it

Why ? My AFR Screw is jammed since long!!
For jammed AFR screw apply WD40 / Zorrick / 2 T oil / Brake Oil on the screw liberally...wait for 15 minutes and try to rotate it either clockwise or anticlockwise..For me the Brake oil gave the cure...do not apply too much force on the screw...you may have to apply and try a few times before achieving success

Few weeks back I went to a mechanic here in Jaipur and he told me that he has to remove the AFR screw from a lathe machine..

Same here! Mech told me to do the same. Will have to remove carb and take it to shop so I've been postponing it for over a month now.

That is because the mechs do not know this method...do not take it to a lathe guy since if the guy doesn't know his job then your Carburetor will be damaged...a new carb costs 6,000/- so try to do what I had suggested...many members have done this and the jammed AFR screw became free...
You may have to try applying the oil many times and try, but remember that it is jammed due to Aluminum oxide formation over a period of time, and requires the oil to penetrate to loosen up the screw....alternatively , you can try placing a thin screwdriver like the Line Tester type on top of the screw head and GENTLY tap on it with another small driver to loosen up the oxide coating..this may have to be done repeatedly in some stubborn cases...but remember to oil the screw area, wait for 15 minutes, then repeat the process...TAKE CARE NOT TO TAP WITH HEAVY SCREW DRIVER,SINCE IT WILL PERMANENTLY DAMAGE THE THREAD....
Regarding the loud pop sound, it is the failure of the air cut off valve causing this...If you look at the carburetor from the Kicker side, you will see a small round part fixed with screws on the carb., with a thin rubber hose connected to it........ if the two screws are removed then a spring loaded diaphragm will come out..if this diaphragm is holed then this problem arises....you can source it from the ASC... look at Ref no 9
