I had obtained ngk g power sparks. Earlier I had iridium and then had changed to mico (for no reason). Nowadays my riding is limited to 1 km in the morning (6 pm) to the rly stn and @ 4 or 5 km at night @ 8..9 pm. With mico my choke would be open for the full km in the morn. I had changed the plug yesterday. Its been raining almost continuously since yesterday. Today at noon the zma sputtered immediately after starting and I killed the choke. At night..11.15 pm the engine died with the choke and I started without the choke. It seems like a miracle.. The old mico shows deposits..maybe rich. I had asked the mech to set the afr @ 3.5 . Have to check it. BTW I am on the 223 engine now. The 235 had some damage and was taken out for repair. but I cant get the piston (.25 oversize of p220). If anybody can source it (only Usha or Mahle make ) please let me know.

Choke for a whole km, after the few thousand kms I stopped using it cause of fear of wearing the cylinder.

And regarding the piston will see if I can source it from Bangalore. And am curious, what's the condition of the Bush? I'm assuming when you revved hard it developed slack, and the rest is history.

I fail to understand how it will wear the cylinder
What bush are you referring to ? I think the bush I made to cater to the dia difference of the piston and the gudgeon pin moved from position and the oil supply route was disrupted..and yes, at high rpm. I have to re-do the cylinder..but have to have a piston also. Now itz like riding a cd100 aftr an rx100. THE TERM 'pushed back in your seat' is a reality in this case. I hadnt changed the sprocket and the pull was phenomenal. For @ 5k rupees I had above 10k kms of bliss.
One grouse I hav is I cant use the new hi-lift cam in my 235 setup..
I was wondering ...if I rewind the coil wont I get enough power (electrical ) to run a 100/90 w HL bulb effortlessly. Or isnt the coil rating of the new zma higher rated and can I use it ?
Also is the bellypan of the new zma a direct fit for the old zma?
Ashwin..piston make Usha or Mahle only.

Extended use of choke will impair piston and cylinder wall lubrication -- had read that in the owners manual of my Dio and a few other Honda manuals.
Makes total sense to me, I guess its because of too much fuel. and might be causing excessive deposits on the plug (like you have mentioned)
Do not use choke unless necessary, usually just get the bike to start using the choke (only if it doesn't start normally) - and then close the choke after a few seconds and hold the throttle just so much that the engine doesn't die out for another 30-60 seconds. Or just ride out the first km slow and steady.

The Pain -- I asked my friend about his karizma's invoice, unfortunately the bike has been taken by his bro to their home town. Couldn't get hold of the Rc or invoice. But I still think the last batch of the old zma's were made in 2014.

Cool no worries Thanks for checking Bud.I was hoping my Karizma was from the last production batch. But it's from the 2013 July batch.

If the excess petrol through choke leaks past the piston rings, then it will wash away the lube..... The ZMR stator is more powerful than ZMA-R and can be used to increase installed stator capacity.

hmm...ZMR stator..what about the newer models ? I think they are even more powerful.

• Tank Rust & Engine Leaks

Hi guys, I've got rust in my tank. I'm not sure how deep it is but visible when I open the fuel caps. I failed to completely remove the tank by myself due to lack of tools. I'm planning to give it to a local mechanic. The fuel cap does not close easily its more like jammed, have to push hard. What is the best way to get rid of these rusts?

Also while having a basic look around. I found some oil deposits on my Engine top half. Why would that be?

Additional info:- I do have a kinda cold start in the morning or after rain. So I tend to use choke. I feel jerks during the initial start (more like hiccups) as if the engine is not responding to my acceleration.

My brother has pulsar 150, given the same condition it starts well without any problems.

Any advise on the above mentioned problem would be great.

Thanks

Ya you both are right as excess choke use will fry the oil rings. It will not damage the cylinder, but the oil rings will be toasted due to lubrication washed away and excess heat produced. I have personally experienced this as you all will remember that last month i had said that my CBZ had consumed engine oil to almost negligible quantity left in chamber. On opening the bore, we saw that the bore and pistons were perfect. Also the performance was excellent as the previous night, my friend and me both were riding on it and bike was crossing 100 kph in the blink of the eye. So on inspection the compression rings were good but the oil rings were fried and had gone soft. In fact the lower oil ring was so much fried that the impression of the expander rings were impressed on the lower oil ring. I wondered why this happened as last time the oil was drained, quantity was perfect, then how come suddenly in next oil change bike consumed almost 800 ml of oil. After some pondering i got the answer as two weeks prior, due to rusted cable the choke was open a little. As i was middle of the week and i am posted at a place where no spares are available, so i rode for 500 km that includes a highway ride to BBSR. So that just fried the ring. So open the choke only for 20 secs and then close and maintain idle by throttle.

The reason I said cylinder is cause someone I know rode on the choke cause the bike would die with throttle cause of an air leak and he ended up with a smoking bike and a cracked liner.

After that I never use choke unless and until bike wont start without it, which obviously wont happen in South India In my D100, I used choke just once to see if it works

Thanks, was wondering if it was gasket as I read it on some old post in the same thread. Guess there is no harm in changing both. I'm using hero oil so far. Will let you guys know after I get it done.

Hi,

Quick question guys, i had picked up a new karizma bore kit for a friend this afternoon. Unfortunately, i just dropped the piston on the ground and its dented on the crown edge . Is it possible to get standard size pistons from the service center directly or is the only option to use an aftermarket piston.

What is the best way to go on this? Whats the approximate price of a new standard size piston?

Damn i feel like kicking myself for dropping the piston

Oww man, do they get dented that easily ? (btw i haven't dropped any so far lol)
You can ask at the svc , depends on the svc ... i was once told that it is only sold as a kit along with cylinder at the svc.
Also maybe able to buy the oem std piston from a third party spares shop or stockist in your city.
If all else fails then a third party std piston.. Piston+rings costs start from around 600 upto 1000rs depending on oem, third party brand blah blah..
