Belated Birthday wishes PSR Sir. Am having the same hard gear shift issue. My ride clocked 87k km till now. And I have replaced clutch plates and worn out gears at 65k km when my engine opened for overhaul. But from around 80k kms am facing this issue. It's really hard to press the clutch lever too. Is it because of the clutch cable. A mech told me loading clutch(putting few washers inside the clutch hub or something like that) may give much more pickup than older times. Is there any harm doing it? If anyone have knowledge in it kindly shed some light on it. And there is one more issue of knocking. I've recently changed my cylinder kit with new one as my old one where worn out. But even after changing it am getting knocking on high gears on lower RPMs(say 5th gear at 3000RPM). Any help in this will be really helpful. thanks in advance.

      Helo sir,

ZMA ignition coil pic you uploaded is of white color but in my 2013 model it is in black colour..Today I went to svc to buy ignition coil, part no- 30500kry901, even svc given me white color coil. Request you to confirm if there is any difference in ignition coil of old zma and new model.

Ignition coil Color had changed, but Mechanic confirms it is not an issue since both do well...

Thanks for the Good Wishes..Gears don't wear out so early at 80 K Kms...unless you had been thrashing them.Adding washers to clutch springs will make it tighter to compress and will make clutch operation stiff. You may try changing clutch cable and routing it properly to have smoother clutch operation.. Similarly adjusting clutch lever play to 5mm at the lever will ensure you do not run the risk of Half clutch when you fully depress the lever. This ensures you don't have hard gear shifts.

Coincidental timings and good to see you back in action.

I replaced the Front Axle bolt to check for wobbling issues today.
Gears had become hard and the only identifiable culprit was a bad clutch cable, so I replaced that today. Will take a test ride and let you know how it goes.

Post Edit : After a test ride, the gear shifts are much smoother now, faulty clutch cable was the only issue leading to hard shifts. This needs to be a part of preventive maintenance every two years given that the clutch cable costs only 80 rupees.

          Notes :
          1) Lean AFR can lead to a hot engine and low acceleration
          2) Engine oil condition (and type) can lead to sluggishness as well as hard gear shifts
          3) Clutch cable (and relevant adjustments) should also be done to see if hard gear shifts are indeed due to that.
          4) Don't trust 'expert' mechanics and pay them a lot of money only to find out your problems have not been solved and your money has gone down the drain.

Do let us know about Petronas... But would like to share my experience on shell ax5 20 with 40 . from last two change I am using this oil and my very satisfied with this oil. For me the drain interval is 4k easily. Do try this.

Why don't you next time try the Shell Rimula R4. Its a 15w40 grade which I believe is the best suited oil for the Karizma. The gear shifts have become smoother and the bike performs also better than Ax7 or Ax5. I have used both these on my Karizma and did not find it up to the mark as Rimula series.

The drain interval of 4k is very long. I suggest 2500kms at the most. I change the engine oil and get the bike serviced every 2000 kms. For the last 4000 kms have been running on Rimula r2 (my previous mechanic put this inspite of me advising him of R4). After clocking 2000kms with this oil changed it to Rimula R3 cause I could not get a hold of R4 this time. I have already ordered 2 cans of R4 oil. Next service is due in another 500 kms. Will give reviews about the R4 then.

Until then, these R2 & R3 Rimula oils have performed great. Only once I felt the heat from the engine in the last 4000 kms. The engine is butter smooth, the bike feels light and nimble, smooth gear changes and good pick-up are some to name.

Sir, In black ignition coil there are two connections (earthing + CDI ) along with spark plug wire (also not mentioned in coil- high performance) whereas in previous (white one) earthing was not there in HT coil. Pl refer black HT coil pic 2013 model. Why hero changed HT coil if previous one was high performance?

Sorry for late reply...Like you had observed, the later ZMAs have Black Ignition coil with separate earthing wire...My guess is that the coil supplier had changed and Hero Must be using it in other DC Ignition bikes like the Glamor etc., and so had preferred to have this configuration. I could not ascertain this since he Hero Mechanics are struggling with the flood affected bikes and lack of parts supply due to sudden increase in demand . In fact for the ZMA alone , one of the Service center had been waiting for the Full Meter console, which had been completely ruined due to flood for the past 2 months....and the quantity required by this one ASC for ZMA console is 300 nos...This is apart from the other bikes....so getting a reliable answer in near future seem impossible from the Hero Engineer.

I am unsure what you mean here . Do you want to know what will happen after 2 years when you go home , or you are coming back to home after 2 years and bike is not starting ?

I guess if fuel flows to carb and spark is passing through plug it should start after a few kicks with choke pulled. If not do one or more of the following.
                            Clean carb.
                            Clean spark plug.
                            Change air filter.

Assuming there is nothing mechanically wrong it should start.

Gurus.. please add points I may have missed.

The nonOEM fairing I got does not seat correctly. In my case the h/l wire is now tight against the chasis .
