Yes the writing is too bland and doesn't feel like of good English.

Now bertand is there as editor but not Sirish.

And yes the writings are more biased now a days.

Yeah will scan the copy and upload. Have it at my home. On weekends will return to home and search it in my book library. Then will scan and upload.

      Hi Karizma owners,

I have Few queries with regards to Karizma R.

      Engine oils:
I recently purchased a 2011 model Karizma R. The previous owner has used the OEM engine oil ever since he purchased the bike. He has clocked about 21500 kms with the same. Since purchasing the bike, i have used it for few hundred kms and found the engine oil pretty smooth and to my liking. I recently serviced the bike and opted for shell ax7 as the new engine oil. i didnt have second thoughts on this because i have used it on my RTR 160 (heavily modded) and found it to be the best for RTR's. But its not the case with Karizma R. I can feel the vibrations on the bike if i rev above 4000 rpm. The bike is smooth only in colder conditions. When i first crank the bike in the morning, i dont feel the smoothness in the engine.

      my query is:
      1) what is the best engine oil for the bike? Smoothness in all temperatures is my requirement.
      2) Are the vibrations on the bike as a result of engine oil change? If not what are the other things i should check for.

      Mileage:
The mileage i am getting right now is 31 kmpl in cities and 33 kmpl on highways. These days i have become very sane in my riding style. I do keep the bike at speeds around 60-70 kph but not at all rash in any sense (very smooth and slow acceleration). On an average i keep the bike floating at around 4000 rpm. Gear change in between 4000-5000rpm. i did check the spark plug and the burning seems to be correct. My mechanic also confirmed the same. I am not sure where the problem lies. The bike is stock whatsoever and no modifications have been done. Is the mileage i am getting out of my bike normal or below par. Can somebody enlighten me. I am very new to this bike. This is the only bike i have liked after my RTR. Hence blindly purchased it with friend's (xbhp, mechanics and well wishers) advice and my preference. i am hoping that the average mileage on the bike to be around 38-40 kmpl. Or am i insane to expect the mileage of around 40 kmpl.

There are couple of other minor issues which i hope to eradicate as i begin to understand and learn about the bike. Will share it in upcoming days. In the meanwhile, the above 2 reasons are my priority.

      Overall Impressions of the Bike:

I have now ridden the bike for over 1500 kms now. I have done a couple of short rides around bangalore. The bike is fantastic and very focused. The handling is superb though i am not too happy with the braking as i enjoyed on my RTR (I reckon the rear tires need a change here). Good touring bike with a relaxed attitude. The bike is most comfortable at around 5000-6000 rpm. The gearing is perfect except that i wished for a 6th gear (my personal opinion). I did manage a top speed of 130 kph on a downhill. On flat roads it does about 110-115 which is fair given my height and weight. The wind deflection is not satisfactory. i can feel the wind on my chest, neck and face at high speeds. Crouching is not an feasible option owing to the ride position. But the bike doesnt sway around too much in windy conditions. So no complaints there as top speed is not what the bike is meant for. Engine kill switch is not available. This one is a big disappointment for me as older bikes than Karizma have that option. One weird thing i have noticed is, when the bike is idling (say you stop and signals and do not switch off the bike) and when little throttle is given after few seconds the bike shuts off. I cannot comprehend this!!!! My mechanic said this was a thing with Karizma's. When more fuel is fed into the carburettors, the engine shuts off. Is this true by any chance?

I feel with the RTR i learnt to be a biker. But with Karizma, i have learnt to be more mature. i have become more responsible from a rash rider (on RTR) to a mellowed down and relaxed biker. Its like falling in love again but with a more mature perspective. Honda definitely have come up with a good machine.

I really didnt wanna let go of my RTR. I loved it for its peppy engine, rev friendly and nimble traffic carver. There was nothing more i could extract out of the bike. I felt i have grown over the bike. I needed something which was not a money pit, which would fit my height and weight, pillion comfort was utmost priority, a bike which could tour all day long, a no nonsense bike and lastly something which is stock and above 200cc. When i thought of an upgrade, i wanted an apt upgarde which i found only with Karizma. My ideal upgrade would be a twin cylinder bike but due to budget constraints its still a distant dream. But karizma so far has managed to bridge the gap and is continuing to do so. I know for the fact that when i go for my next bike, Karizma would have made me a complete biker in all means. The transformation is fantastic and i can feel it within me. I can proudly say (atleast for time being), i am tailor made for Karizma.

This change for me has brought in new perpectives. I no longer wish to rip the bike. Not a top speed fan anymore. Am more focused on whats good and bad for the bike. I dont splurge on unnecessary accessories. And i think i have begun to appreciate machine more than the styling or performance aspects. In short, i have begun to understand - Understand the biking world, understand whats right and wrong, understand the strength and weakness of myself and my machine and to be content!!!! I'd say i have graduated from son (with RTR) to a proud father (with Karizma).

Apologies for the long post and some unwanted dramas and opinions. But i had to share it.

You can try Motul 5100 15W50 semi synthetic oil. AX7 is a decent oil but not the best suited for Karizma. Change the oil and then check for the vibes.

The average you are getting isn't too bad. As you have purchased a used bike, you wouldn't know if it had gone through a proper run-in or not. You can try changing the air filter which doesn't cost a bomb and see if the average improves. You should get 35+ if you ride in around 4k RPM.

You cannot do much about the braking other than changing the tyres to better quality. Changing it to soft rubbers will improve the braking ability.
Regarding the engine shutting off, please let us know if you can start the bike after it gets stalled or you need to open the fuel cap and close it to start the bike again. If the bike doesn't start without opening the fuel cap, then it is getting air locked.
And please change your mechanic and before that ask him that how you are feeding more fuel into carb when you are idling
        He is giving weird explanations!!!

Thanks Amit for your advice. I will try changing the air filter in the next few days and check if mileage has improved. I will change the engine oil after another 500 kms since the bike has just been serviced recently. How abt shell Rimula R4. It has the same grade as Motul 5100? For tires, i might wait for 1000 odd kms more. Will keep updating the about the performance of the bike after the above mentioned changes.

The bike starts immediately after shutting off. There is no problems in re-starting the bike. Its just that when little throttle is given after few seconds of idling is when the engine kills itself. I know its not a problem. Just wanted to know if other owners here face the same.

Shell Rimula R4 is a car engine oil. Never use a car engine oil in a motorcycle, those are made for different purpose.
Regarding the problem, please check if you have kept any cloth or anything under seat and air filter vent under the seat is not able to get air properly. I don't know much technicality and not sure about any specific issue, please wait for the experts to respond.

You should be checking the viscocity of the oil and not the grade... for eg. Motul 10W40 motorcycle oil...

Grade of oil is expressed in terms of viscosity.

Dont put much thought into this, just stick with recommended grades and you are good to go. As per my experience the Motul's dont gel well with the bike, makes it rough for some reason.

And I wouldnt recommend going for synthetics as the bike runs well on minerals and there's not point in investing more on expensive oils and trying to extend drain intervals to try to make sense. A decent 10W30.20W40 or 10W40 with a change interval of 2k kms would do. (y)

My experience differs. R4 is 15w40 and ZMA/ZMR loves it. Drain intervals around 1800-2000 km typically.
Shell Rimula is a diesel engine oil. It can be used in bikes.

Shell Helix is purely a car engine oil which actually has *friction busters* and that can cause clutch slippage (transmission oil is separate in cars). Rimula doesn't have that!

Bottom line - Rimula can be used, Helix can't!

I just read in another thread that many people have got good results by using Rimula in ZMA. As I haven't used it and my generic feedback towards car engine oils was - ve, I am learning something new now. My ZMA is due for a oil change and I think Rimula will be a good choice.I can experience the cleaning capabilities as I am using simota filter.

it still. i have owned a 91 RD350, 03 RE TB and sadly
i sold those before leaving india in 2007 but i still have
my ZMA and will never sell it

she is in need of the following

1- all plastic fairings and panels
where could i get these in hyd. i was there last year and
the dealerships couldnt help me. i have searched online
and found a website safe-x . com offering the complete
set with tank for 8500rs. should i go for it or can i find
                            the parts locally in hyd

Changed my engine oil to Shell Rimula R4. The JP nagar petrol station folks were hell bent on convincing me that R4 is not for motorcycles and it might have adverse effect on petrol engines.
After 50kms, I haven't experienced anything outstanding to write about. The engine is smooth like it should be after a oil change. I didn't expect it to do some instant wonders anyhow
I will wait for some 500 kms for the oil to do its job and will post my experience on the same.
