I think you are facing the typical " STICKY VALVE " syndrome. What happens during this time of problem is the valves become increasingly tough to move in the Valve guide, and stem seal leading to valve getting stuck in open condition. This happens mostly on a hot engine, AFTER a ride and rest for short time .It had happened to me after a 55Kms ride and stop, when i came back after 15 Minutes and tried starting there was no compression.I kicked four or five times and suddenly got the compression back and bike was normal as if it was ok all the time. The problem is yet to repeat....and till today the bike is good.
Another possibility is the auto de-compressor getting stuck in decompression mode leading to valver being kept in partial open condition, and getting released after sometime...
This problem is faced by few CBZ owners also.

Sir, will using higher grade oil solve this issue.???

And even though I've faced the same issue, I believe it was due to the rev limiter shutting down the engine after the 125Kmph mark, cause the next day the same thing happened .
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today went to SVC to check up on Aneesh and his ride, since his carb cleaning was due today, we were observing from the customer lounge and strangely the mech was trying to pull out a cable from the bikes kicker side, Which made us feel abit suspicous, but Aneesh said that they're removing the choke cable, but the guy kept on pulling and pulling, finally Aneesh's bro went to take a look and SURPRISINGLY the guy was pulling out the clutch cable and the other stuff's attached to it, anyways his bro reported it in due time and the guys started putting it back, by then it was time for me to leave so I came back home, the rest of the story will be published by Aneesh himself when he gets back..... BUT the question remains, will he be coming back on his ZMA or NOT???

Using higher grade oil will not help and the Rev limiter is at 9,250 to 9500 RPM...at 15 kmph for every 1,000 RPM calculate ,at which speed the rev limiter will start acting....

        • Sos!!!!!

@ PSR Sir, I am depressed. For last few weeks, I am facing the problem of Knocking in my Karizma R.
In my last ride, after riding more that 300km at a stretch, I have suddenly found that the engine is knocking. I was riding in low rpm, may be 3K+ and was in 4th gear. I was shocked, but ignored for a while. Then completed the trip of 1414km in two/three days.
Then I have decided to look into the matter and decided to commute on my bike for few days. On my way to office and office to home, I have noticed that on 2nd gear @ 2K+ rpm, the engine knoking like hell. Most of the time I have got khocking, when the engine is hot.
When ever I have got the knocking, I was bleeding from my heary. So, please give me some advicees and help me out.

My odo is 10K+, and this is 2011 Karizma. The machine is running on Motul 300V.

BTW, in my 1414.9 km trip, I have got the fuel economy of 49.8KMPL. This ride includs, high speed run(constantly 110 - 115kmph), riding on bumpy roads on most of the stretches (I have lost my chain guard - it fall off) and hill climbing - the pankhabari road with 45 dig hill climb at night and reached Darjeeling at dark night. It was awesome experience. I am happy with the performence of the bike.

But only one thing, knocking - making me worried and sad.
          Move on.........

FE of 49.8 and knocking when engine is hot are symptoms of very lean AF mix.Apply WD40 or 2 t oil on AFR screw, and then try turning the AFR screw GENTLY,ANTI CLOCKWISE by HALFa turn...I had seen 2011 Karizma AFR set at 2 or 2.5 turns which is way too lean for the bike. Three turns ANTI CLOCKWISE from fully CLOCKWISE stop is the best for the 2011 ZMA..this will give you lesser FE..may be 31 city and 38 to 40 Highway..but bike will be smooth, peppy, and less hot.
I am running with 3.5 turns AFR setting, in my 2007 ZMA with 23K + Kms on ODO.

Turning the AFR screw CLOCKWISE will make the AF mix LEAN and ANTICLOCKWISE will make the AFR mix RICH.

@PSR Sir, my afr is already 3.5/3 (I forgot) turn and I did it myself.
What are the things I should check Sir? I am planning to change the timing chain next time as a constant chik..chik...chik... sound is coming. Should I go for the emgine head overhaul(I'll get the warrenty)?
Should I check the AFR and set it to 4turns?

Have you fitted K&N or any free flow air filter ?
If the tappet ie., Valve clearance is set wrongly with more gap then also the sound and problem you have described can happen.
Another known issue is. the Timing Chain Tensioner going bad in ZMA which leads to loose chain, timing going bad and hence knocking and heating..
So my request is to first set Tappet clearance setting at 0.1mm both inlet and exhaust and ,check Timing Chain tensioner is ok, and if so check the timing chain.

                • Hey guys...The brake pads of my bike have worn off and need a change. Any idea about whats the current price of the same and can I replace them with CBZ's brake pads?

Sir, my bike is completely stock, except the NGK irridium plug and NGK power cable.
The tappet has been adjusted in last service, but have doubts with the feelar gague the mechanic used. Need to give it another try. Yes, I am getting sound from the timing chain probably - the tensionar may be the culprit.
I am running on new air filter and this is the 3rd one in last 10K km.
But, PSR Sir, what are the parts of engine head need to check for damage in case of knocking. Ineed to pay special attention to those parts and I'll change it if damaged even slightly. What your suggestion Sir? Please give your thought Sir.

Hey you got the same exact one? or is it an open nut?

And between the nut is size 10 and I tried various nuts of size 10 in my inventory seems like nothing is fitting in . And I can't remove the other nut and I didn't try too hard because I didn't want the head to get spoiled.

                      • Went to svc today, they changed the choke cable and the problem was solved at that time, but arised after some time,So after reaching home,I opened the carb bowl, cleaned bowl and jets and put it back and adjusted afr,it was not at 4 turns, its altered by someone ,so again changed it to 4 turns and after that it seems to be fine,Will do a small ride tomorrow and will post the results.

Also the bad thing is ,today ashwin found a crack on my front fairing, right side near the screw near the tank.

For knocking noise whatever I had mentioned before, is enough. If the head is opened , you can also check for Cam wear out..in the form of grooves in CAM.Check the rocker arm for wear and Valves for any bend, and seating problem.

Try the Yamaha Enticer half chain guard. People say its a direct fit, but its not, You'll have to cut off the slot like part on the other side, and you'll also have to puncture a new hole. But for Rs.44/- Its a VFM cause its of superior quality i.e even considering the fairing fiber quality. And its also looks like OEM and today morning when Fazeroid saw my bike, he asked whether it was some sort of OEM Addon.

                              • Need Help Guys...regarding spare parts

I'm based in Ahmedabad and some 1&1/2 months ago my bike fell on a stone while taking it out of the parking and the result was a big dent on the fuel tank . I went to the SVC and they told me that I can get it replaced under insurance, but they didn't had the spare part. Since then i had been to the SVC thrice but they still don't have a fuel tank for zma-R, every time I go there, they make some calls here & there take my mob. no. and ensure me that they'll call me ASAP.

Plz guys, if you can give me some nos. and email IDs where i can contact in order to get the job done it will be of great help.
