Guys.. I finally managed to get the air filter for my zma from a place called rajahmundry which is 500kms far from Hyderabad. They got stock over there.

I never changed the air filter after I bought my zma. Now it is 1 year old and 11,000kms ODO. What kind of performance changes I can expect after replacing the existing old air filter with the new one.

          Hi guys,

I checked with my mechanic, the moment I said him that the bike is not going further than 80kmph. He said the clutch plates are worn out, any techniques to check the clutch plates status myself? He said me the whole process will cost around 2k, I am tight on budget as of now, planning to do so in a month or two, is that fine?

Why do we keep asking people to either read the thread fully or use the search function.... http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...zma-r-952.html

In standstill shift to 5th gear, open the throttle and slightly let go of the clutch. If the clutch is fine the bike would die, else the motor would still be running.

In ZMA/ZMR the RPM to speed ratio is 1000: 15..ie., for every 1,000 RPM in 5TH GEAR the bike will run at 15 Kmph....to find if you have clutch slip, in 5th Gear try accelerating quickly from 3,000 RPM to 5,000 RPM... If the engine RPM goes up and the speedo rises very slowly ,then it confirms clutch slip....Do this ONLY on a FREE Highway without traffic...

As seniors have pointed out, I'd request you to proceed with Carb Slide check before replacing clutch plates.
With a stuck carb slide (common with ZMAs), the bike won't rev beyond 5k in 5th.

(O.T.O.H, if the RPM was limited to 3k or 50 kmph in 5th, we would have advised you to check CDI contacts too).

Now, coming to your question. How can the rider diagnose clutch plates wearing out?

                1. Reduced acceleration/pick up.
                2. Burning smell emanating from under the tank in heavy traffic.
                3. The bike would take longer to reach higher speeds.
                4. Gears start slipping (there are other reasons for this too).

What I could notice at 80kmph was the speedo needle flickering between 75-80, does that confirm clutch slip?

The Speedo and RPM meter in Karizma/ ZMR are Electronic stepper motors, and not mechanical ones...so suspect earthing problems for the 75~80 speed variation , not clutch slippage.

I did ask my mechanic about the carb slide, he said it was absolutely fine. Since he had cleaned the carb few days ago, because water got collected in my petrol tank, due to the non seasonal rains.

1.There is barely any change in the acceleration.
                      2. I haven't noticed any smell from under the tank, though I will check once more.
                      3. The bike is not easily going to higher speed, but not taking that long also.
                      4. Recently I am facing problem from shifting 1~2, happens only in traffic. I have to pull it up really hard. At times when the gear doesn't change I move the bike a bit ahead or behind or rev a bit and then try changing and it works.

First make sure if the cam chain tensioner(no.3 in picture) is gone bad or a tensioner lifter(no.4) is. If it's tensioner lifter, then CBZ lifter is direct fit to zma. If it's a tensioner issue then search at SVC or any hero authorized shops. I faced same issue, the lifter was in good condition but was not able to provide support to the tensioner inside engine causing similar noise. My mechanic did a jugaad and increased the lifter length by adding a metal layer on it with help of gas welding. The lifter supports the tensioner very well now and i rode 15k kms post that without issues. Saved money too.

                            Morning guys,

                            Kinda SOS. Need help!

I was changing oil earlier today when I saw that part of the threads of the oil filler hole of the crankcase is splintered(as in the dipstick was spinning freely) and coulple of bolt holes are broken(the clutch cover which has hero Honda stamped on it). I called the stealership and as usual, I get a reply that the parts are not available. I wanted to confirm if the Classic CBZ cover and gasket would be a direct fit as I can have the new one arranged in a day or two.

I have seen close ups of CBZ and karizma Crankcases and both have KFN-I stamped on them so just making a wild assed guess.

I do not trust the mechanics and their workmanship here. this would be a DIY effort.

                            pointers required.

                            thanks.
What do I intend to do? Stuff ZMR drivetrain into an Ambition chassis and watch others run scared!

Please take a couple of pictures, it's difficult to get an idea like this. Is the metal thread itself worn out, or is the plastic dipstick worn out? You can get it sleeved if you don't want to replace the entire case.
Which bolt holes are broken (just bolts missing, or dead threads or?).

Strangely, the dipstick is perfectly okay. The threads inside the dipsitck hole is broken off and the bolt holes near to the kick starter are not there.

I have attached a pic for your reference the arrows show the broken holes, image pulled up from google:
