Even ZMA cries for oil change after 1000-1200 kms if you use the Hero oil . It is not advisable to run 3500kms without a oil change.
I have been using Synthetic oils (Motul 300V or Petronas Syntium) in my ZMA from last 70k kms. 3000kms is kind of max!!!

Guys there is too much of smoke coming out of zma's engine, also there is a oil leakage from the engine head, there is a bolt kind of thing between those horizontal lines of the block, the oil seems to be leaking from there. Can anyone throw light on this, what is it exactly and is it normal?

About the smoke my mechanic had said that its the paint that going off and hence the smoke, but the amount of smoke that is coming out doesn't seem like the paint evaporation.

How old is your bike? For the head, it may need inspection and replacements inside if the motor is old (usually, if ridden carefully). Else, new O rings would do.
BTW, is the smoke colorless? Also, how old is the engine oil and what is its current level on the dip stick?
        Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

My bike is 10 years old. The Smoke is colorless, and the engine oil was recently changed, since I got new clutch plates installed. I hope the O rings do the job.

Im looking to buy a 2012 model Karizma, Any advices on issues that I need to look for in a Karizma and How is the maintenance cost, Engine Life/niggles and mileage as compared to a 150cc bike (say Xtreme)
I intend to use mostly in city ( no long drives > 100kms) So I'm wondering if Karizma R is a right one or should I settle for a 150cc bike instead. From test drive it looks like its easy to ride in city but ride was too short to notice anything significant, Looking for suggestions from long time users

            Thanks

Well, I do agree that Oil should not be used that long. It's all about hard earned money. As long as expenses are concerned, I already spend close to 4500 on fuel per month. Adding service cost, oil, wear and tear it crosses 5000. So changing oil at 1500 interval is pretty expensive for me. I haven't faced any drawback of that, my zma has crossed 45k kms lately and still runs at 38-40kmpl. No engine problems faced yet except tappet and tensioner noise.
As long as my mechanical engineering background is concerned, ZMA ia a twelve year old long stroke engine and does not ask for MOTUL 300v or its kind of synthetic oils. It has also been mentioned in previous posts by @psr sir that 20W40 mineral oils are good to keep zma cold and smooth.
                Choice is yours.

Thank you for clarifying your purposes of purchasing a Pre-owned Karizma. I cannot comment on 150CC bikes apart from HH CBZ classic and CBZ-Extreme. When we compare these models with the Karizma, the Karizma seems a much better proposition. You have something extra on tap when you are riding @45-50mph. The engine is extremely reliable and the bike is an excellent handler. My Bike's done almost 1L Kms in the last 7 years(i bought mine pre-owned). The drawback is the sporadic unavailability of parts which again depends upon your city.

Things that I would certainly check while purchasing.

                  1. Should not have excessive oil leaks and Vibrations. Sometimes, there is oil leakage seen around the Stator Cap and around the Cam- Chain tensioner. These can be rectified by changing the respective gaskets and O-Rings. See that you are getting a less used example, say odo reading between 4500-13500 Kms.

                  2. Check for any accidental damage, i.e. misaligned forks, bent wheels, tweaked frame etc.

                  3. Check the plastics thoroughly. Quality of plastics are a Achilles heel of the Karizma. One drop and the plastic stays on the inside of the fairing are the first to kick the bucket. To add to our misery, each plastic part costs a bomb

If you are going to trawl in the local market, make sure you bring your friend/mechanic who can give a second opinion. Check 10 bikes alteast as Karizmas in the used market were not generally treated Kindly by their previous owners.

others may also chip in, and, do go thru the thread. It has very valuable info.

I'm too in the lookout for an abused 2003-2004 model karizma for rehabilitation

Unfortunately, there are no other alternatives(that I know of) apart from Joel's petal disk advertised on the race concepts Website. The OEM disc will cost around INR 1300 and do make sure that the disc bolts(5 nos, each approx INR 6.50) are also changed. Use blue loctite on the bolts.

Got my bike checked today at the local mechanic, the oil leakage was because of the gasket near the engine head which was broken got it replaced spent some 20rs on that.

About the paint my mechanic is still saying that its the paint(spray paint) which is going off. But its really bothering me a lot, the smoke makes me nervous of the fact that what if in future there is actually something wrong with the engine and there is smoke coming out. Any suggestions guys, what can be done, any trick on how to get rid of the spray paint?Because I would really prefer a bike with abrupt painted engine than a smoking one!

Can someone tell me the part number of the CBZ Xtreme rear alloy wheel that fits in ZMA-R 2010 model perfectly? Being searching that for a while, they say there are two options in Xtreme alloy wheels -- which one will fit?

Dont have the CBZ part number. Zma part number is 42601-KRY-931.

Yeah there are version of alloy 5 spoke n 10 spoke ones. Both fit but would look odd to have a 5 spoke alloy and a 10 spoke one combo. If you are okay with doing so , you can go ahead. To be on a safer side mention first gen Extreme alloy. If you confirm weather it would fit zma , they will give the zma alloy ar double the price.

I meant to say if you ask them whether it would fit ZMA they would deny the possibility and say only the zma alloys fit zma and charge you double even though he gets the material from the same rack.

Ah, yes. That's why I wanted to reduce the possibility of this, and was trying to confirm here. Claiming and asking for the part number directly would further neglect any such chance. 1st gen Xtreme won't sound that promising to them, what I think.
