IMO : If you want reliable long distance tourer then leave the bike as it is or buy new bike.

#repost .... lost in the thread.

Hi I have 2012 Karizma-R...clocked around 30K km till now.. Next weekend i am going to get it serviced..

What are service checks i should take care of for a 30K km run Motorcycle ?

Till now i have always serviced through Hero ASC.Presently i am running it with Shell Ultra 10W40 .... the engine feedback what i found is peppy till 4K km with more vibration , after that engine lags in acceleration and Speed but Vibration got Reduced.

So now thinking to moving to AX7 Semi-synthetic.. Is there any other Semi-synthetic Oil i may consider ?

Here are my questions / Need some strong worth suggestions.

I know few of them are posted in previous threads ....
But I wasn't find any ans fully .

        1. I want to change into Mono suspension (the reason is ,a American mechanic told me , about Mono suspension is more stable and better control ).
        2. Rear disk brake .
3.can I go for remaping or any changes .
        4.Hid /Projector light.
5.Changing chain kit ( I need good clarifications on this , less tooth on front will gives more pickup , does it effect mileage).
        6.Cnaging swing arm ...

I would like to do all this Chennai .

So ,please give me some suggestions and I will look budget too ...

        Thanks in Advance .
        1) You will affect the overall stability of the bike by doing this mod. Not much gain for already a very stable bike.
        2) You will have to change the wheel and overhaul the entire rear brake assembly. Just a money drain. The drum brakes will do the job just fine.
        3) Karizma R is a carbureted version. I am not sure which mapping are you talking about.
        4) Go for the projector setup if you want better lighting or buy a plug and play led h4 lamps or go for an auxiliary lights to improve lighting.
        5) You might wanna play with rear sprocketing than the front one. Yes lesser tooth will give better acceleration at the cost of top speed also there might be marginal reduction in mileage. More tooth will lead to slower acceleration but better top end.
        6) why do you need to change the swingarm in the first place? Is it damaged due to accident or any other reason?
Everybody has their own version of TRUTH!!!!!!

          Guys,
I became a proud owner of Karizma R 2012 model recently. The bike belonged to my friend and he is abroad with no time to use the bike. He offered me the bike at a nice price and finally I picked her!
The bike has run only 3k kms and is in excellent condition.

I was riding a Hunk for last 4+ years and was happy with my bike. But I had to sell her unfortunately.
I rode only 100 kms so far, I have posted my initial impression in the Xtreme/Hunk thread http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...ml#post1245015
I have already read first 800 odd pages of this informative thread.
I will come up with more questions, once I clock more kms

              - True. The Unicorn Mono shock can be retrofitted, but it is an expert level job. Professional grade mechanic stuff as the shock mounts have to be welded with precision and ensure that the shock is working for you and not detrimental to performance.
I only ride Karizma's. All have had monoshocks with 7-8 inches of wheel travel.

              2. Rear disk brake .
              - Not a good idea. Drums are fine.

3.can I go for remaping or any changes .
              - No ECU...No remapping. No point in using any performance CDI either. They are all balls.
              4.Hid /Projector light.
              - Bad idea. HIDs available are mostly cheap chinese made stuff. You will end up blinding someone oncoming but still not have visibilty. Better idea is to use relays and rewire the headlight for higher capacity bulbs. Been using that setup for 11 years. 7 years continuously one bike.

5.Changing chain kit ( I need good clarifications on this , less tooth on front will gives more pickup , does it effect mileage).
Techinicallu adding a tooth to the front will do that
By changing to a sprocket with one more tooth in the front means you will go about 2.5 teeth lower in the rear. (Ratio, work it out) Technically this should mean your bike can do 140 kmph in 5th gear. Reality .. you will never rev above 7000 rpm on such a setup maxing out at 120 kmph (or 125-130 on a downhill) Also you WILL lose on acceleration. Bottomline - tried, tested, not worth it.

              6.Cnaging swing arm ...
              - Nope, no reason to.
I would like to do all this Chennai .
              - Can't help you there...

Got it from Amazon.Use words like Rubber Paint,Plastidip and rustoleum.Costs around 700 rs for a can (11 ounces).
Though rubber paint is said temporary,it last for quite a long time.

                    2011 Karizma - R
                    Odo - 47k

I'm facing two issues. One of them I know what needs to be done.

                    1. While riding at good speed and wanted to slow down or almost jam the front brake, I'm experiencing a strange issue where the bike sides to right side. Don't know what's the issue as I fear the lean to right and possibly loose the balance.
                    2. The same old problem of carb slide stuck where I won't be able to cross 80kmph/5000rpm. This was little concern while overtaking as going above 60kmph is like a drag till reaching 80. The solution is, most probably will change the carb to another (which I have as a spare).

Have you ever got fork oil replaced? If not then first try replacing the fork oil and oil seals. If problem remains then most probably its because of cone set. Get it checked.

I left the handlbar while riding to check if it sides but it was not that evident. I can give benefit of doubt to your point on checking cone set but then not sure why it has to side while braking bit hard. I'm still trying to understand fork oil and seal change to this issue.

things that come to my mind in order:
                          1. forks/triple tree alignment (including cone-set: tightening steering stem nut a bit or re-greasing/replacing cone-set after inspection). also make sure the forks are aligned correctly and the bolts on the triple tree are tightened properly.
                          2. front wheel bearing
                          3. get front caliper overhauled and put back together and check if the rotor is true or warped.

Took the bike to my native for the first time, which is around 200 kms away from Trivandrum.
Really enjoyed the ride. Took a little more than 4 hours to reach my native which is pretty good considering the roads are all two-lanes with umpteen speed brakers and around 40 kms of the roads is narrow windy ones.
Got a mileage of 39 kmpl - no complaints considering the power and torque of this machine. Also it included some short runs in my native.
Really liked the stress-free engine at 80kmph, high speed stability, handling and ride quality at medium to high speeds.
My dad took the bike for a short spin and liked it, though he was bit uncomfortable on the weight and length of the bike.
My elder brother and cousin brother (they are on their 40s and fans of Suzuki two strokes) got really carried away and they took some real long test rides to nearby by-pass roads. Happy moments

However, I have couple of problems with the bike.
                            1. When I downshift and accelerate quickly it does well. But after accelerating to good speed, upshift and give throttle quickly, the bike bogs down for a second or two before accelerate.
                            2. I washed my bike and took the bike to nearby town. I reached back home and was about to switch-off the bike, but bike shut down on its own. It was not starting for around 10 minutes after which it started and was behaving fine since then. There was no compression loss or whatsoever. I checked the spark plug wire, there were minor cracks on the outer. Will that cause this issue?

Please let me know your thoughts on these issues.

                              Help needed guys !!

I was in the process of checking the front wheel bearing by rotating the front wheel.

I noticed a "tak tak" sound and I was able to see that one of the front brake pads moving up and down along with the wheel rotation.

It is seen moving only for a particular position of wheel.

What could be the issue here? Does this pad movement occur normally ?

The yellow marked one is seen moving up and down when the wheel rotates.

I feel it could be due to a bent brake disc. Check the disc thoroughly by rotating the wheel while watching the disc for lateral movements.
