    • Went on a 500 kms round trip on saturday, my (and the zma's) first long ride since i bought it in nov 2009. realised what a delight riding this bike is in long tours. no back pain etal. just a bit of pain in the knees as i was wearing knee pads. Most of the time the speed was around 80-85kmph. Felt awesome.

Now the small problems: the trip meter stated getting reset during starting. Happened atleast 3-4 times during the journey. Bike starts easliy but its just the trip meter thats getting reset, so maynot be an issue with the battery. Could it be due to cdi?
Front brake pads also need replacement now. the bite has reduced and the stopping distance has also increased

      • The trip meter and clock do get reset because of a low charge on the battery. Ideally, this condition should have been rectified thanks to the long ride you took and the battery getting recharged because of it.

It then seems like your battery's life is running out; even charging it may not help and it is time for a replacement.

This has nothing to do with the CDI in the normal course of things.

        • My ZMA has run just 14k kms (very less for a 2 1/2 year bike). Do you think the battery has gone out of life so early. Also i dont find any issue with horn, headlight and the indicators. These all work normally. its only the trip meter that has the problem

          • Your low running itself is a contributor to low battery life.

An average of three years battery life can be assumed for new OE batteries supplied with a new bike. Usage, maintenance and load (addition of a horn and a more powerful headlight bulb) can affect its life positively or negatively.

Forgot to mention in the earlier post that low distilled water and/or electrolyte levels in the cells could be a factor too, get the battery serviced (will be routinely done when you give it for charging).

You can also tell if the battery is dying based on the 'eagerness' of the starter motor to spin over, you'll find a good battery leads to a shorter, sharper starting crank (more like half a crank).

You can try recharging the battery, but to me it sounds like it is reaching the end of its life. Try it once and if the problem recurs a few days after the charge, then you have no choice but to replace it eventually. If you can live with the resetting trip meter and clock, you may be able to squeeze another few months out of it.

            • Hello,

I have some queries regarding the current Heromotocorp sold Karizma R.

              1. Is it still sold with the HH badge or Hero?(I've seen Hero sticker in live but website still has pics with HH sticker)
              2. Does the bike have pass light?
              3. Are there any changes in the current model from the old ones?
              4. If yes please elaborate.
              5. What will the future scenario be in terms of spare availability?

Yeah, even the 2012 model has HH badge.

                      Yeah.

                      3. Are there any changes in the current model from the old ones

IIRC the first batch was 17bhp and everything after that is 16.89bhp, though yet to be proven.

Don't know about other places, but for KL, it's like getting candy from a baby.

@Siddesh, please do replac the necessary packing, cause an oil leak in that area is abit uncommon.

Change in the badge will not affect the bike or the engine or the performance of it. Karizma will have the same engine even if its rebadged with just Hero.

                            • Engine mods on zma

                              Hi everyone,
                              happy independence day!

a colleague of mine has a 2007 zma which he says has been modified by his brother who used to be associated with an aeronautical engg company. he says entire engine was stripped down and a very small layer of material was removed. this was replaced by same thickness of some harder material. he said this is done on aircraft engine internals. could anyone shed more light on this please?
