  • Hi friends,
Can anyone post how to maintain the glazing of tyres.
I rode in quiet muddy roads, so the tyres become muddy, as a result my bike looks like 4-5 years old one.
only water wash does not remove all the strain.
is there any good VFM liquid available online??
is there anyone using it, please help me.

Again, are you sure that pads are okay? We get some sound when the pads are almost completely worn out, due to metal-metal wear and tear. But observing quite a young age of your bike I don't think that the pads are gone so early.

We have to wash it properly, and then with some old toothbrush or something like that...you getting it?
no, i had just a water wash.
I think the pads are okey. because the bike is just 3600Kms.
Its not the metal sound (I know that sound well, while the pads worn out)
Should i wait for next servicing or I wash the pads immediately?

    • Wash tyres clean with detergent and nylon floor-brush and spray with waxpol tyre-shine and dry . Tyres will look brand new and shiny black , but please spare the effort untill monsoon is gone for good .
Did you ever get any oil/greasy-stuff on those disk pads ?

      • Hi Friends,

I am quite away from my bike and won't be using it for the next 1 year. Also, there is no one in home to ride it expect me, but can be asked to start and idle up the engine for a while. The +ve terminal of the battery is disconnected as of now and will be touched/connected with the battery to start the bike once or twice in a week. My question is, mainly about the engine..is that ok if i practice the same for the next one year? OR drain the engine oil, disconnect the battery completely and leave it as it is without giving life to it for the next 1 year?? Also, the bike is standing in my room INSIDE THE HOUSE in SIDE STAND sine no much place to make it stand on the straight stand. Is that ok if it stands as such for the time span i mentioned? because, my bike previously had oil leak issues from the magnetic side/left side of engine. I presume, no problems will arise due to it stand in such a state..pl clarify bros!!

I would suggest it is ok to have the engine revived once in a while. Side stand is ok. On the lighter side, have plenty of space at my house, could have contacted me.

If You leave the bike untouched for an year You can expect some serious deterioration of the parts. Few tips which will come in handy:

Not the original , it came with no company name . I changed just the damaged nylon part , the metal gear was not damaged .

              • I had also kept my bike idle at home for close to 1.5 yrs. I didnt disconnect the battery and it drained off. It was started once in a while, but didint make much of a difference

So yes, disconnect the battery and it might make some difference.

The few things I did when I went back to the ZMA was
                1) Changed Engine oil
                2) Changed Brake fluid
                3) Changed all cables. Found them a bit hard, so didnt want to risk it.
                4) Recharged battery
                5) Got the oil filter checked and cleaned. SVC guys said its still fine and not to replace it.
                6) Checked tyre condition. They found it ok, but I'll be replacing soon with tubeless ones, since the stock ones are 3 yrs old and might have got hard with non-use.

Those who haven't used it, will think its a waste, who wants to polish the tires. But one cant say without seeing or using it. It really makes a big difference. Its worth buying it.

A bike will only look new if its each and every parts shines. No matter how old is your bike.

Ya go ahead and do it. No probs. Many have removed the lower engine cowl from the ZMA and trust me, the bike will run cooler!
                      Hi Divya Sharan,

Yes bro.. the tyres are 5.5k both front and rear in Bangalore. I had to get 19" front and 17" rear, sadly they weren't available so had to choose Ceat Grip. Michelin Sirac front and rear for karizma- 18" is around 5.5k.. If anyone needs it in Bangalore, you may contact Cherry Agencies near Langford Road. PH# +(91)-(80)-41312147

Both ceat Grip and Michelin Cirac are good tyres.

                      Cheers,

The bottle comes with dispenser nozzle set-up and costs around Rs 200 , should last years and years of bike use .
TYRE SHINE . It can be used on rubber parts only .

The brake noise you describe can also come from glazed or hardened brake pads other than embedded dirt . Only way to remove such dirt/glaze is to dismantle the pads and sandpaper the surface . I would rather replace the pads with aftermarket ASK/ANL pads , brake pads are cheap . Clean the brake disk lightly with pril and scotchbrite pad and wash . Screeching brakes are quite annoying .

Not only should you use the center-stand for such long storage , but also try to find a way to prop both wheels off the ground (using a packing box for support under the bike's swingarm, for example) . Over-inflate both tyres . If the oil has been used more than a few hundred kms , drain it and fill with cheap fresh oil(you have to drain and fill fresh oil again before use) . Remove the battery altogether and store separately . Wash & wax the bike . Grease all bolt-heads and joints etc etc parts generously, grease the drive chain, grease all exposed metal you can see . Drain all petrol , including that in the carburetor(by loosening the carb drain nut) and close the fuel petcock . Then(after all fuel is removed) remove spark plug and pour some(5ml will do) fresh engine oil inside the hole . Ground the ignition leads and turn the engine several times by kick to spread the oil before putting the spark plugs back in . Spray some WD40/Zorrik into the exhaust and stuff the exhaust hole tight with a rag . Pour a pouch of 2T oil into the fuel tank . Put the bike under a breathable cover . Leave the brake fluid in .

                          @Pinaki Da

The advice on the long term storage is 100% bang On..
But have a doubt. Why do we have to Pour in FRESH OIL?? I mean draining Out the used oil seems logical. But pouring in fresh oil, wud it help Somehow?? Coz, with prelonged no usage, the oil would come down naturally, from the engine, and accumulate in the oil slump. So, what will be the use of it??

                          • Frankly, I am agreed with you ... but all motorcycle handbooks(without exception) recommend this for long storage of the bike .
Maybe it is because well used oil would have accumulated contaminants (including strong acids) which causes corrosion internally . Old used oil is also likely to decompose into gummy sludge . Even after draining fully , some of the old oil sticks in there . A fill of fresh oil(even cheap oil) and idling the engine on this new oil a bit before storage would remove the old oil completely from the internal parts and keep things clean in there ?
