And what about the head gasket?

Once again thanks for the reply!
Valve stem leak is what you are going to fix by changing the stem seals.
Lifting the bore, removing the bottom Gasket and putting it back with Three Bond is not complicated and should not cost you much additional amount..just ask them..but the increase in performance will be good...you will gain between 0.8 to 1 HP due to this and also get better FE ...all due to the increased compression.
The gasket thickness will be about 0.5mm, and removing it will bring piston closer to top head by 0.5mm and thereby increase the compression, and HP,and FE..The timing chain will become loose by 0.5mm and this will be easily taken care of by the tensioner.

your engine is not running lean.Look at the plug pic you had posted. While the center electrode shows that the heat range is correct, the outer metal ring shows dry black coating, which is due to rich running
Oh did i mention that with 3.75-4 turns of the air screw, my mileage was a measly 26 with sedate riding?
this is due to rich running..check /change your Air Filter and then set up the AFR
The engine has run around 60k and the cylinder was replace around 5-6k kms ago as per the previous owner!
So you have relatively new bore & Piston, which should give you good performance and mileage....provided the earlier owner had done a proper Run in with the new bore kit.

Hm..That is a good mod. Will tell them about this. Thanks sir.

        • PSR, The center electrode is ceramic white and that cant be good! From working on 2 strokers, ive learnt that this would be the indication for being super lean! The outer ring is BLACK(as black can be) and that means its set to run rich! But why in the name of the holy grail is the center electrode so darn white? It kinda worries me actually!!

Thanks for your help mate! Really appreciate it!

James with more fuel efficient, different config engines coming into the scene the plug reading is no longer simple...now the plug peripheral ring and also the GROUND STRAP are read for interpretation.Read the content of the following links, and you will understand better....

              • Was suffering from fever from last few days...too the oppertunity to do some diy on Kn filter. Bought a splendor foam filter and wrapped it around the KN, cleaned it and put some 2T oil. After fitting it the response was good...However for getting more richer mixture I adjusted the AFR screw extreme loose. It was giving very good results till today mornings ride to Krishnagiri to meet fellow chennai xbhpians. First the fuse blew up twice. Then I kick started the bike but while entering bangalore, the bike behaved weird. And my first guess was right, the AFR screw was missing .

Went to svc straight away to buy fuse and the AFR screw but found neither of those.Even talking to the manager didnt help!

Now my tomorrow's yercaud trip is in doubt, I arranged everything and now myself cant go

                • I dropped in at the SC this morning. Mech(good guy worth his salt) said he needs to check everything including the head. I told him to get a compression gauge and check the compression first. Will dump the bike there on Tuesday.

                  Cheers!

                    • Hi

                      Hi.
                      I have a Karizma R 2009 feb model.

My bike has clocked 21100+ kms and my tires have become slippery.....I feel the need to replace both of my tyres.

Please suggest me which tyres should I go for and which brands ?

                      Thanks.

Go for M45's before they run out of stock, else you'll have to set with SIRAC.

You can also give Dunlop Monster a try, thought the latter will last more due to the medium compound.

I had been warning about this happening in previous posts.....The AFR screw alone is not available...Unfortunately for Keihin Carb no spares are available..Try getting what you need from the junkyard recovery,or second hand parts market..a new carb costs 6,000/-..If you need to change with NEW carb, change it to BS29 Mikuni which will give equally good performance and all spares are available...costs 2,400/- From Bajaj.

                              M45 are made by Michelin.

MRF tyres are also good, but their maneuverability in wet conditions are still questionable, and also while cornering you cant do a laymans corner cause the bike will skid, you'll have to corner with you'r ass and handle bar. And they also last a long while before you start loosing threads.

Here's my preference when it comes to performance.

                              1. Dunlop Monster - A fellow ZMAte's using this and they'r the best when it comes to grip, but they wear out soon. He's been on it since he bought the bike and his tyres are almost bald, he's run 15k'kms when I last saw the bike.

                              2. Michelin M45 - Best of both worlds, I guess. Aneesh bro uses them, so it'd be his call.

                              3. MRF Nylogrip Zapper Y - I use them, cause they'r stock. The grips not that awesome, and also had a spill, but eventually you'l get the hold of it.

Is there any problem about SIRAC tyres ? ...I found out that these too are made by Michelin.
