  • R15 Version 2.0 First Impression

    Hi Guys

I was occasionally riding my bothers Super Splendor (125 CC) and drive Tata Safari to commute daily
Got my New R15 V 2 (Red) last week, after 3 months of waiting period

    Looks big, feels big

Road grip is amazing and it feels like tyres are stick to the roads
Pick up is good (Just changing gears at 4200 -4300 RPM as it is in run in period)
Initially riding position was very uncomfortable but as days passed I am getting use to it
After riding for four days I have wrist pain, neck pain, back pain (May be I am riding after a long time and not use to of this riding position
Front suspension is not good, every single pot hole on the road feels like I fell down on a hard rock with my complete body weight on wrists (Wrist Pain)
Bought had gloves and planning to put some extra cushion/grip on handle bar to reduce wrist pain.
Seat cushions are really bad or I can say there are no cushions at all
Riding with pillion is uncomfortable for both pillion as well as rider, every time you break and pillion lean forward (Tried with 3 young guys all said not comfortable)
Gears are slightly hard at this moment but I guess after first service it will be smooth
Got mileage of 42 kmpl (both highway and city combined) Keeping below 4500 RPM as it is in run in period
Lights need adjustment will get it done during first service

Till now 280 Kms and planning for first service @ 600 Kms with Engine oil, and oil filter change

Congrats on the V2, Regarding the riding position you will get used to it in a months time as i also upgraded to my R15 V1 from splendor. After market handle grips are good but dont put too much fatty ones as that effects cornering a bit. Lights yes i agree are not that good, better use a after market Projector with xenon lights (one halogen for low, hid for high), the engine kill noise is normal and you wont notice after 1000 kms or more as you will get used to it. V2 i agree is not comfortable for pillion and the problem where pillion comes front under braking is normal as its a front biased bike. Regarding oil and oil filter change, i would suggest go as per manual as its not required to change at 600 kms.

Lastly, check the mileage after first service

suspensions are OK and you will get used to it. also you will get used to the Riding position--try grabbing the tank with your thighs and keep your forearms parallel to the ground as much as possible.
Engine kill switch sound is normal.
Light adjustment can be a simple DYI to adjust the throw and reach but not intensity, check the manual.
V2.0 has a tag line "Arrive Alone"...try avoiding pillions for your and the pillion's comfort
Your Bike will be much Smoother after 1st service

        • Warranty Issue - Pass Flash Switch!

Guys, is the Pass Flash switch covered under warranty? I'm aware that the electricals aren't covered, but electricals include wires, bulbs etc. I've been asked to replace the entire pass switch unit that costs 500/-.

              • did you checked for any loose connections?
my advice will be to get the wiring checked in a local garage. if there's a wiring prob, no need to change the Switch for Rs.500.

I think the electricals have 2 years warranty man, just talk to the yamaha factory shop svc center in your city and see their response.

Electricals aren't covered under warranty (as mentioned in the service book), but I was just wondering if electricals include the switches as well

The SVC had asked me to pay for the replacement. I guess I cud try dropping Yamaha an email.

Also, everytime I mention warranty at the SVC, the people there tell me its for 1 year and I remind them its 2 years! I'm in my 2nd year of ownership.

Thanks for your inputs Shrinathrao, Prakritij let me try gripping the tank with thighs,

Problem is seat width is less/ downwards, it is difficult to balance weight on thighs until you sit back.

But more I am riding, learning, making adjustments and feeling comfortable.

Yes, now I am more careful and switch body weight with every pot holes and gloves are helping to reduce wrist pain

I am using all 6 gears and keeping it below 4500 now for first 500 Kms

Regarding oil & filter change more I am reading getting more confused L
How much will it cost ?

put a mail to backoffice, the emil id is mentioned on yamaha site.

@amitskzr- you better keep her under 5000 rpm at times 5500 rpm is ok for the first 1000 kms. You wont repent once you cross 10000 kms as it will be as smooth as new. The first service cost is roughly 1000/- INr. Better stay with semi synthetic oil for first 10000 kms and than use Fully synthetic as thats the way good results are seen.

I'm from Chandigarh, and moving to Mysore for about 5 months, and my bike would be at home, with no one to ride it, any Precautions i should take?

what should i do? and what other precations i should take?!

Keep the fuel tank fuel, no need to remove battery connections and all. If there is help at hand ask some one to self start your bike just for 5 minutes every 15 days, that will be more than enough.
