My 2 year old R15 is giving me some issues now, the engine is a lot grunty and heavy now. On high revs it feels like I'm forcing the bike to do it, Getting regular services as manual states, got last one done 7 days back, hoping it'd fix the issues I was facing but it didn't. I'm also using Simota, bought it from Joel(Haven't lubed it for about 3-4 months now).
Can anyone please help me, what could be the issue with my bike?Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.

For most vehicles jump starting is no problem, some with DOHC's have a problem so i'm told that a cam can get busted, though i am not convinced.Originally posted by krish2778 View PostBro, sounds like a kaput battery,
but i do have an query, is jump starting a Fi engine advised. Have heard that its not good. Hopefully someone can clear this.

I still don't believe the average life of a battery will be 3 years, however in my experience of living my initial 38 years in England and the past 4 in India, is firstly Exide are junk, they are either defunct or virtually defunct in the UK, I have witnessed my Swift's Exide and my Father in laws exide (which I had fitted) both fail within a few weeks of the warranty expiring. I have also noticed, this I feel is down the the ambient temperatures and humidity in coastal regions at least, is that NI-CAD and MINH batteries have a shorter life span, the same cells I had used in the UK for a camera, had lasted 3 years/1000 charges or so, in India they had lasted around half of that, though my LI-ON batteries have faired much better and are on par with what I got in England, just my observation!Originally posted by abhimanyu31 View PostThe average life of a lead acid battery will not be more than 3 years. That your battery lasted 3.5 years is great. I have seen batteries give up in as short a time span as 16 to 18 months. I am currently running a 9 amp Amaron (need the additional cranking power due to removal of the decompression mechanism) without any problems. However, it does not fit into the battery box directly. You will need to cut the battery box to make it fit.
Back to topic, I got my battery back this morning, after charging was showing 13.8V on the multimeter, sweet, popped her back in and started no problem, usual 1.5-2 cranks, as I also don't have the decomp lever on my cam. Tried again in the evening, same thing, still good to go, so TATA can actually make a good product!
Anyway, so the battery will stride on for a few more months, i still feel it's a little weak (PARANOIA?), mostly due to the stress of starting up with the aftermarket camshaft and the extra power consumption used by the RD RR unit. Will consider the 9A Amaron in a few months. One question though Abhi, does the 9A battery take full charge from the stock charging?Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

Thanks mate, keep it as simple as it is after from cosmetic changes!!Originally posted by shrinathrao View PostWords are straight from the heart man and i was enjoying reading it, mine baby will be 2 years soon
I don't understand my friend, why there is a need of modifying a bike with effects the engine or something like that!! Yamaha R&D have spent a big time to test the capability of this 150cc with it's all angles! I am specially against any mods with engine, it should be as simple as it is! If you need speed or more pick up there are other options out there, if your bike is giving you trouble in 2 yrs then how will you spend more years with it. Only Joel can answer your query now!! Actually this post should have been in joel thread's so that he can dvice you!!Originally posted by HotAntivirus View PostMy 2 year old R15 is giving me some issues now, the engine is a lot grunty and heavy now. Any solution to keep away rust in the front disc?

I plonked in the the raceconcepts exhaust and simota filter together, so i am not sure exactly what is causing the gains, but the bike is more peppy(without the db killer) and mileage has improved by 2-3 kmpl. I was getting 37-38kmpl previously now i am getting 40 exactly. Only downside is that exhaust is too loud without the DB killer.Originally posted by somen1984 View PostDoes it help in anyways than stock ones??sigpic

WD40 spray works for the chain rust, it should help with the disc brakes too, but i wonder how they are getting rusted. My bikes always in the open in the rains too, disc never got rusted for meOriginally posted by k 72 View PostAny solution to keep away rust in the front disc?sigpic

It does not take a full charge from the stock charging unless you are doing an average of 50 to 60 kms a day with fairly constant speeds of 60 km and above. In my experience, the battery needs to be fully charged every 8 to 9 months to keep it healthy.Originally posted by stefanm View Post

The center plate of the disc getting rust. Previously yamaha provide solution by painting @ free cost, but later they stopped doing this.Originally posted by abhi_underdog View PostWD40 spray works for the chain rust, it should help with the disc brakes too, but i wonder how they are getting rusted. @abhimanyu31: How long does it take to fully charge the battery?
I have never got my bike's battery charged ever since July 2008!
@k 72: You can get it painted outside also-it will hardly cost a couple of 100s! I got that done in black. Have a look at my bike's pics posted last time.

different for different riding styles i guess, i get 37-38, i am usually revving high, 7k-9k most of the time. With similar speeds and similar riding style, i get just a little more.Originally posted by somen1984 View Postthese mileage are under what speed? becuase i get 35-38kmpl when i ride over 90kmph -120kmph and under 40-70kmph i get good mileage of 40-45kmpl.
or paint it yourself, you can get a spray can for 200, use it on other scratches also..Originally posted by k 72 View PostThe center plate of the disc getting rust. Previously yamaha provide solution by painting @ free cost, but later they stopped doing this.sigpic

My 9 amp battery takes about 4 to 5 hours for a full charge. I normally give it to a battery shop near my residence every 8 to 9 months. Though I am seriously thinking of buying a charging kit.Originally posted by Sarvajit View Post@abhimanyu31: How long does it take to fully charge the battery?
