  • Few riders have faced this problem. The only solution is to replace it as the fuel pump cannot be repaired.

At that time I visited at Yamaha Service Station for for multiple times but the service guys were unable to resolve this problem. Then a service guy found that the bike's fuel pump do not respond whenever its parked in hot places and indeed he was right, after taking it in a cool place (at least for 30 minutes) the starts perfectly runs like anything never happened to it. Then he consult with his area service Engineer (Yamaha head office Engineer) and after watching a citation that Engineer replaced the fuel pump under the warranty. After that time I even Leh'd in last year on my bike and there was no failure in any part of the bike.
But yesterday it was very hot and I started my bike in the morning after 30-35 days, as usual it starts at the self. Then I rode it a near by place and parked it in the parking, after one hour when I was about to go home it happened again. Bike's fuel pump stopped responding and because of my old bitter experience I knew that its a fault in the fuel pump, so I just take my bike in the shadow under a tree waited for the fuel pump to get cool down and after 1 hour I tried to start the bike again but it fails. Then somehow I arranged some cold water and pour-spray it on bikes fuel tank right after spraying 2-3 bottles of cold water on the tank the fuel pump starts making sounds like it usually do in every R15. So after that makeshift troubleshoot the bike gets started and I returned home. Then I talked with Servicing dealer, he told me that the fuel pump must be replaced to resolve this problem and it cost around Rs 7500. I was astonished with his words and thought how cheap is the built quality of Yamaha spares. A module costing near about Rs 7500 has a lifespan of 1-2 years. Then I talked in the Yamaha head office regarding this complaint and they also asked me to replace the pump and told me that this time it will not be covered under warranty. Now I am very disappointed with this crap bike & cheap spares maker Yamaha Motor India.

And there are a lot of people in our area who faced this problem and there's no solution except replacement of the module. So anyone there who faced such problem in his bike? Anyone there who knows where can I get the fuel pump repair?

And after repairing I will definitely switch to any other good built brand like Honda or Kawasaki.
how much fuel do you generally keep in the tank?
and next time this happens, just open the fuel filler cap and then close it after a few seconds, try again..does it start now?
after monday and tuesday, even the calendar says WTF!!

Sorry to hear the fuel pump issue, i think since yours is a 2008 model many of the bikes had the similiar issue as the 2010 batch R15 this issue was resolved as i myself park my bike for hours and days in direct sunlight but i make sure that i always keep my fuel tank above the last indicator, i.e 2 or more as the pump technically is submerged in the petrol and lack of petrol can cause over heating and sensors can go kaput, i think this same happened in your case too.

Thanks for the reply Sir, actually I always use to keep the fuel tank full and whenever gauge indicates 3 levels, I refills the tank. Actually thats not the issue its all because of low grade fuel pump installed in the tank. Any other suggestion.

I tried all such things but it didn't repond, there's only one way to start it again, 1st park it in a cool place 2nd pour-spray some cold on the tank. And I always use the good quality petrol in it and always kept the fuel tank at full indicator level. Its very annoying that replacing the same module right after 1-2 years.

              • ^^check with yamaha dealers, if you are lucky you may find one. It was launched long back and very few were available then, last i checked monarch auto in pune had one in red colour and that was the last piece he had left.

                • Problem starting the bike

                  Hi Friends,

This incident happened today evening. As yesterday was a Holiday, "Independence Day", My bike was parked for 2 days in the rain. Today evening i started it for my office commute. everything was good for 10 minutes. It started giving jerks & went off. i tried starting it again & after 5-6 tries it started but again after running about 50 mtr same thing. did this for 3-4 times. every time the bike would start after 3-4 attempts but shut down after running some distance. then i took it to Reddy's Garage @ goregaon as i was near it & i was a usual customer for all 3 of my previous bikes. Sadly @ reddy's they don't work on R15. so requested him to keep the bike for the night as i was getting late for office.

What could be possibley wrong? water in tank? problem with FI? anything else?

I will take her to Yamaha Factory shop @ Malad tomorrow.

                  • ^^^ water contamination. The water in the fuel tank. Ask them to check the fuel cap's sealing and also to ensure that the drain pipe is not obstructed.

                          • For the past few month i am facing this problem several times, after riding for about 10-15kms my bike suddenly stops then then when i press the button to start the bike it does not respond then i try to jump start the bike initially feels as if it is getting out of breath then i keep the revs high then bike behaves normal. I went to Setco Yamaha(East Delhi) and the guy told me that the problem is of the fuel pump and i have to pay 7500rs and i asked is it under warranty the service guy said no its not. Then I called Himgiri Yamaha(Krishna Nagar Delhi) to ask whether the fuel pump is under warranty? the guy said yes and he told me to bring the bike to service center. I went there the mechanic told me that i have to leave the bike for a day. So i did what was told by him, then when i went to pick my bike the service center guy told me that the bike is normal they didn't any problem they just adjusted the clutch play.
Then after taking the bike from service center for couple of days the bike was normal then after 2-3 days the same problem occurred and still facing.
                            I need help in this.
                            Thanks in advance

                              • Hey guys, after hitting some strange potholes on weekend rip fest, my handle is feeling too much loose or you may say free, i checked all nuts, bolts, bearing, rim and all are ok.

any advice what else to check?

Also would like to know if anyone is using petronas SS oil and at what interval they normally drain, as i am using it for like 2800 kms now and the oil is still smooth being SS while motul SS 15W50 used to go kaput by the time its 2000 kms so wanted to ask.
