    • Does changing air filter to cosworth or any other brands require tuning of the idle rpm too for R15? as i am facing the issue of bike shutting down a lot this days specially in my early morning commute to my office.

A proper warm up and all things are don, the engine and coolant levels are normal still its giving issues.

If you are using a plane type filter that simply plugs into the air box you should have no problems. If the idle rpm is too slow just adjust the idle screw.

However, if you are using a conical air filter, even if it is fitted into the air box, it will give you problems. The conical air filter creates a air vortex that disturbs the reading of intake air pressure sensor.

Arrey shrinathrao bahi i thought you were an experienced and knowledgeable biker!! Why then would have you go on and put a conical air filter when stock replacement airfilters are available from three different brands including knn?

After many extensive skimmings through posts by joel and abhimanyu sir, I came to understand early on that there is a MAF sensor at the air inlet below the airfliter. Thus putting conical airfilter hinders MAF sensor from working properly, resulting in improper air-fuel mixture ratio.

I had stock filter for around 18 months now cosworth is a very good air filter specially for R15 and many of bladerunnerz guys use it and i thought of trying it and i am getting a very good improvement overall as compared to stock filter and since this is a dry filter requires less maintenance as compared to k&n like no oiling and other hassles simple plug and play.

So how can we correct the MAF sensor as i spoke to yamaha guys nd they say no adjustment is required as FI takes care of the air flow and mixture. as you told i adjusted the rpm a bit more but still the shutting down problems persist. need to check the thermostat sensor if its being over heated or something else as reason of shutdown.

                • ^^^ so it is a plane type filter? Check the plug and see if it is running lean. If it is ask the SVC guys to increase the value of the AFR.

                    • Hello friends,

I need to replace the rear tyre of my R15 (V 1.0). Is MRF Zapper S TL 100/80-17 the correct profile? Also what's the approximate cost of both front and rear tyres in Hyderabad?

                      • Guys SUPER QUICKLY: Whats the cost of clutch plate for R15 V1?? Mines Dec '08 model.

@abhimanyu sir: plz advise me on what all i should pay attention to, so that i know the mechanic is doing a perfect restoration of my bike's clutch unit. Should i replace anything else along with the clutch plate??

@shrinath: in the early days when the r15 had just arrived, i know a few people who installed knn filter available in the conical shape. They regretted it deeply even though they never understood why till recently, and sincerely advised me to never do the same mistake.

But since last year or more, performance stock replacement filters are available, which made me glad. But still i am hesitating, when i imagine the infinite amount of dust and other microparticles flying about in delhi, and entering my beloved bike's engine. Which makes me wonder how such crap can be cleaned out from the engines?

                        • ^^^ as a best practice, when clutch plates are replaced, the following should be done:
                          1. Check the pressure plates for warping. If there is any warping they should be replaced.
                          2. Replace the clutch springs. (it's minor cost)
                          3. Check the clutch basket dogs for any abnormal groves or notching.
                          4. Check the clutch boss splines for any abnormal wear or notching.

Depending upon the wear you may need to take a call on replacing the clutch basket and boss.

                          • theres a strange issue in my bike, the bike goes off anytime i go over a bump at speeds above 40, theres a loud noise from the exhaust somewhat like the exhaust popping, then the bike goes off and takes a couple of seconds of holding the starter button to get the bike to start back...
