You sure want a piston kit replacement?

I have encountered a gentle man who is having a commute of 150kms everyday and his bike has done over 80K and its doing pretty good, no issues.

Has the compression taken a beating?

its easy to check the coolant level. you can top up if necessary..
but this is definitely not normal behaviour, get it checked before it escalates..
I suspect low engine oil level..

yes i got it checked by a mechanic , the engine oil level is no low , but the coolant level is . so i think i should fill my coolant.

can i do this by myself , if so how ? which coolant to buy ?

the bike is only 2000kms old. and i am not a rash driver so i believe its the coolant issue.

guys, what's the life of the stock spark-plug?

as i said before, i am facing an issue :
the bike kind of misfires/knocks at an rpm between 3k and 4k only..
took it to the svc, as usual the mech saw it, said sir koi problem nahi hai...
they have no respect for the customers, as it is the only svc in nagpur, i am totally helpless..
they don't even pour in the oil i give them(motul ss)..
i've decided not to got there anymore and do the regular servicing myself..(oil change, filter cleaning, etc.)

but i don't think i will be able to diagnose the above issue myself..
i need help....

there is also a lag when i accelerate ... could be interrelated...

^^ could be other issues than spark plug. Air filter, chain tension, cleanliness.

Also set the spark plug gap correctly. And if the svc centre gives trouble you can easily tell them to fix their act and or else you can complain to Yamaha head office.

yes, the air filter is due for a change.. but, i don't think that it could cause the - 'specific rpm misfiring problem'..

can the spark plug be changed ourselves?? (let alone fixing it)
it being the only svc in nagpur, i doubt a mail to yamaha would fix them right..
also, i keep asking them whether the "burning kit" replacements are available, they always reply in the negative, that the kit for black colour is not available(has been so ever since the replacements started)..

whatever i tell them, it is either ignored or "normal" ..!!

once, the other problem that i'm facing - sometimes the bike misfires while starting (2-3 times till now) - happened in front of the mechanic..! he looked surprised, took a ride and came, gave idiotic reasons for it happening.. still no solution..

Guys.. Have booked for Red 38B1 today @ Ambal Motors chennai. Would be getting it in couple of weeks..

Could anyone sum up the check points during delivery ?

Also many in this forum have faced issues in engine getting over heated in first few kms (engine trouble light sets on) do i need to insist on checking proper Coolant level when i take my bike from delivery ?

Ready to use coolant top up from motul can serve the purpose for you. Its an easy job. You'd need to remove the side panel on right, open the coolant reservoir and top it up.

Manual suggests to change the spark plug at 20K kms (correct me if I am wrong) but it didn't give me any troubles till 27K kms after which I changed as I was headed to Laddakh. The second one has seen 31K kms (58K kms on the odo) since then without any problems. Your issue could be with the injectors as well, try some good injector cleaner. Get freiendly with the service engineers, make friends out of them. Its a better idea than to complain. Ask them to take longer test rides to see if they can spot the problem.

How much on the odo? Sparkplug life varies according to the riding conditions.Lag in acceleration can be caused by bad spark plug,clogged airfilter,etc.

Find a good trusted mechanic in your city and get the sparklug inspected or find a friend who knows to do this.

For misfiring rpm trouble also look for air intake duct under the tank, which can be loose, because of which the air intake can slightly differ from what is required, hence leading to rpm flactuations

Apart from the default tool kit, what other tools would you guys advise to carry on a long trip? Is something vital missing from the default kit?

Also, Can we use the grease available at garages/mechanics/repair shops for lubing the chain? I hope it wouldn't cause any harm.
