  • ^^^ maybe in India, Satyen, but I have seen it regularly done in U.K. In fact, I know of a firm which uses a very sophisticated system of gigs, lasers, measuring sensors and software to do the same. They claim (though never witnessed it) that they can take a brand new stock chassis and still fine tune it to correct for production based variations.

Me too faced the same problem when my bike had just done 40kms !!.. had gone to SVC and checked.. Coolant was very low and it was not fully flowing.. So filled it up and that's it.. now i have done 43500 kms on my bike... it haven't(temp warning light) blinked once... i guess that might be the problem with yours too..

      • So, As mentioned in Earlier post, I went to another SVC in New Delhi "SETCO".

They Test rode the bike and Quoted the following:

        Shocker/Fork Alignment : 600 INR
        Front Cowling: 685 INR
RHS Side Inner Fairing: 800 INR
RHS Side Panel : 650 INR
        RHS RVM : 251 INR
        Labour Charges: 300 INR

As per them, There is no damage to chasis of any type and No alignments etc needed for it.

However, The Side Panel available with them was of the 20P1 series (Older Graphics ones); So, I refused to replace that and so the total cost came to approx 2650 INR.

AFAIK Insurance valuation of Fiber parts are about 50% so, I didn't claim any insurance as I was told by the SVC floor manager that alignment won't be covered in Insurance as it is not a replaced part and they (Insurance company) need damaged parts.

All this took approx 4 hrs; but I'm happy..

Only sore point is that the Side panel is still the old scratched one.

I need a few suggestions; Now, I'm thinking about putting some custom Vinyls (tribal/ Racing strips) on both side panels. It should be able to hide the scratches as scratches ain't scattered on whole surface but just at the point of impact. It isn't broken or cracked; so I think the Vinyl should be OK.

        Please suggest.

Do video tape the process and tools used to do the same!

I've only heard about it; but I was sure that the chasis is not so weak that such a slow speed impact would bent it...
But, I wasn't sure because I don't know about automobiles engineering aspects much

finally found that it was just a way of looting newbie and novice consumers like me..
Alas, I didn't got any written estimation from this particular SVC or I would have written a mail to Yamaha about the daytime robbery happening in this SVC

but, Lesson Learnt, I am now OK to travel 20+ kms for regular services also but would never ever go to this SVC "J.M.Motors" which is hardly 1.5 kms from my place.

          • This is a lil bit of BS. If you tell them that you want to claim replacement of the forks, it can be done. And for the R15 i would suggest that you go with replacement, not repair. Its not a low end machine. The chassis and suspension setup need to be perfect.

The forks can easily be bent further by the mechanic ( beyond repair ), and new ones can be ordered. you pay about 10-15% of the price depending on depreciation.

            • New or Old?

Hey , I'm new here . I'm really confused if i should go for the new r15 or the old one . I spoke to a dealer and he said that he's not sure but the new one should be in the range of 1.3l . With 20+hp engine , split seats and fz stlye wheels .
Im not very particular about mileage but I'd need atleast 30kmpl , So should i go for the old or the new?

              Thanks in advance!

Edit : I contacted Panache in indiranagar , bangalore .

              • Gonna buy a R15 - Need advice

Am planning to buy R15 (red is cooler to my eyes) in a month..

I know the new R15 (v2) is about to get to the showrooms but still i prefer the current R15 (can we call it v1? )

Am from Chennai and want advice on :
                -Showrooms
                -Accessories and Riding gear shops
                -38P1 or 20P2

A colleague of mine pointed out Paras Yahama as a reliable one and he know a good friend over there. Will this really help ? or can i go with a showroom near to my place (Jain Moto Bike)

Also i need inputs on stores for buying riding gears (helmets, gloves and jackets), stickering (right from number plates to sporty designer graphics)

Is the Blue one in showrooms now a 20P2 version ? The only reason i would go for a Blue one is because of smoother 20P2 engine from Indonesia. Is that a advantage over Indian made 38P1 engines?

                TIA !

P.S. I really love to see the passion in u guys for R15. Hoping to join u soon

                • Hi Arun,

                  Good that u gonna buy a R15.

as far as i've looked up the net (looked at all the websites abt new R15 :P ), the new one may not be wit 20+.. Ppl expect it to around 19 ! and the price may not be more than 1.25 (10k plus the current one). Tho a guy show booking receipt as a proof that price for new R15 is the same (1.14L), i doubt it personally.

Sure it would give u 30+ as Yamaha is keen on that!

                              Buddy..
I guess Body parts will cost you a bomb if it includes the tank.

I would say , go to a good paint shop and get it repainted .
Please keep in mind to go to a trusted place..I guess you can get in touch with local XBHPians for a good paint shop.
