    • Brake pads

I gave my bike for 4th service yesterday. The service manager inspected her in front of me and said I need to change the front brake pads after 200 kms (current odo reading=4100kms). He said because of the heavy rains here, it gets worn out fast. Is it true? Do they really get worn out that fast?
Also, how much will it cost to replace.

      • Rains do play a havoc with disc brake pads. You can manually inspect for yourself as to whether they require a change or not (a dekko at pad's thickness should be enough)

They used to cost Rs. 600 INR earlier, but believe nowadays, they have priced it sensibly at around Rs. 300 INR.

Dint really feel the need for crash bobbins, since the side panels were not that expensive. And the first things that would go would be the indicators and the RVMs actually.

Actually dint ever drop the bike that it needed crash bobbins. But some idiot did topple it over while parked. ( a few pages back ). hmmm... The mounting for the bobbins can be welded onto the deltabox frame, and mounted. But wont the impact be directly transferred to the chassis instead then??

          • Question to R15 owners:

I frequently see "FIAT-Yamaha White & Blue" paint scheme in the current R15. Is it after market or dealer provided? I didnt see it in the Yamy website color list.

Can i get the same in the new version? Do reply me. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the prompt response .
Yeah I did try checking. But I'm not very knowledgeable in this and don't know how much the thickness should be. I'll compare it my friend's bike and check.

              • Hi Guys,

My bike is now 50 kms old and today I noticed something while riding to office. A very gentle rustling sound continuously while I accelerate. There is no sound when the bike is idle or when I use the clutch. Is it normal for a new engine? I feel the sound is from the chain rubbing against something? Do I need to get the bike checked? The sound is very gentle but I can feel it...
                Please advise!

How much are you using it? every 4-7 days is enough, should last you a good few months. I oil the chain every 4 days in the monsoon and once a week normally, depending on useage.

Replace with a NGP GP (Platinum tipped spark plug which should cost less than Rs 180 against about 120 for a copper NGK.(Life is 50000 kms against 10000 kms of copper one)

The short spark plug will act up only after 5-6km of riding and shows up as sparking sound coming from the right side fairing under the tank accompanied by misfiring and loss of power especially on uphill rides. Problem autocorrects temporarily by cooling off (switching off bike for 10 minutes) so you can get home.
                          Thanks for the response.

current spark plug is only 7000+ KM old. The way i notice the issue is, when i release the throttle sometimes i hear few tap-tap noises. replacing Spark Plug will work for this?

Motul Chain lube isn't the long lasting one. Try OKS or cheaper alternative TVS Chain Spray for less frequent lubing.Though TVS lube attracts dust more than Motul Lube.

Thats pretty much impossible. Its raining left and right here in Cochin and my pads(over 6k kms old)is still fine!
anyway check it yourself.the pads have a wear indicator.
