i use Motul Chain Lube. the bike is in the svc now and have informed them about everything ..

See if you guys could help me with this problem which i am facing since a month later i got the bike (November 2010)..

I ride the bike in heavy traffic. in some time the Red light comes on and stays on. now as far as i know the red light indicates that the engine is overheating. so i turn off the bike and let it cool and let the light go. Again i move ahead and the red light comes on again . i can feel the heat coming from the engine ..

Now i do not use the bike ruff . normal and easy acceleration. i shift gear around 4-5k rpm .

svc guys have changed my Radiator, filled Coolant ,checked for leakages , etc and they say that everything is fine .. so why am i facing this problem ?

Best part is i rode my friends R15 and it did not give any problem in the same traffic .

Today Svc guys have told me that they would have a check and keep the bike for around 2 days to find out the problem .

Did any one face the same problem ? please help guys.. its almost gonna be a year now for the bike .

If V2 beats V1 or atleast performs equally well than the resale value of V1 "may" go down. But again the on road price of V2 is 8-10k more than V1.

I faced the red light coming up while riding in traffic, and frankly if you put off the engine than it will make the battery drain and that's a bad stage as the fans turn on to cool down the engine which will eat your battery. Check your electrical s and the charging of all your battery and other things.

Half a mind tells me it will take a hit as the new one is more desirable and there will be very few takers for the old version, but another half tells me that the price is bound to remain at the same level (or maybe even increase) as the Version 1.0 is a more practical bike for our market.

It is not that I want to sell my bike, but just want to invite an intellectual discussion about the effect of the Version 2.0 launch on the older one.
I agree here. Resale price of the 09-10 model was already depressing. I know since i sold my 8 months old bike for 76k. This new model has been designed after extensive customer feedback drives from yamaha.

It caters to everything people asked for - new swingarm + mudguard, taillights, fatter rear tyre and not to mention the amazing R6 inspired rear.

Anyone wanting to sell his 09-10 model will surely suffer even greater depreciation now despite of the 1.2 lac price tag of the version 2.0. I personally would consider a finance option over buying a 2nd hand '10 r15.
Don't know about other prospective buyers.

Finally yamaha has done what they should have done 2 years ago.

            +1

no performance upgrades. Sad. Was really hoping for some ...

              • I think its about what one likes and loves, see we all purchased the V1 as we all loved it and i am also one of you. The V1 engine and overall the bike is a gem in stock and we all know about it. Even if we plan tomorrow to sell it than we all know we all will enjoy it and than sell it. So as per me comparing the new with old is good but depressing yourself that you wont get resale or what if it outperforms are simple waste of time. I enjoy my R15 v 1 as i want it and that's why i bought it. Requesting you all my brothers to do the same.

                • Defective Yamaha R15

I purchased yamaha r15 black from India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd, Wakdewadi, Pune on 17/08/2011. Within 2 days i start noticing multiple problems such as rusting on various bolts, front disc break, paint removal from handle and rusting all across handle down the chassis. Over the period of time within 2 weeks I would see rear break making sharp noice, accumulation of water vapor in the techometer and multiple display section, loosing of clutch bolt, and even pronounce appearance of coppery deposits all along the handle section. To make it worse on 19th day of bike purchase i was unable to start bike (self start dint work and battery finished- i was not able to switch on headlights/display; the engine warning light poped up). I went to yamaha factory outlet next day (ironically in the next morning battery was working and i was able to start bike-strange!) and they told this is nothing but a common phenomenon during rainy season (Mr nitin who is service manager there told that it happens with every bike- on the other hand we inspected atleast 10-15 bikes parked there but not even a single such problem was apparent in all those bikes). The service manager nitin tried to mask the problems of bike saying it happens in rainy season be it rusting or malfunctioning of engine/battery ( in fact he said that it's a loose connection that battery dint work). I came back from factory outlet and To my surprise next day same thing happened " bike is not starting...self start is not working...engine trouble sign is showing up..unable to on headlights...". I as a customer feel cheated and duped because I dint get in this bike what i paid for be it finishing or smooth riding ( the engine makes some strange noise and the service guys twice washed mud/dust from rear break but again within half kilometer ride it would start making such noise). I am unable to feel the touch of a new bike. Therefore I request you to kindly look over this matter because i dont want a repaired bike, instead a bike whatever i have paid for. Now I want a replacement of the bike. This is what i feel:

                  1) Why should i get satisfied with a sub-stranded bike in spite of paying full money

                  2) Why company like yamaha with turnover almost 1000 Cr/year is afraid of taking moral responsibility and instead of replacing the bike try to repair it

                  3) Why service manager blindly ignored apparent problems in bike even when he compared to multiple R15 standing in the company premises (there were brand new as well as above 2000KM old bikes...even then he did not find any such problems in those bikes..rather ignored the fact)

                  4) Is company only charges for engine...and not for finishing/looks ( my bike is utterly bad in finishing with handle frame material is unevenly molded/cut all along the handle)

                  5) Is policy of Yamaha Motor India above customers satisfaction

                      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of my friend who was waiting for the V2 to be launched changed his mind after the launch, and decided to go for the v1 or wait for the KTM 200. Then again he is more of a practical guy than a poser. No matter whatever yamaha claims(like a little more performance/little bit better handling etc) we all know that on a regular basis it wont make any difference at all(unless you are off course a regular track rider which most of us arent) except the reactions of the onlookers. As this new R15 is 10k+ costlier when it comes to on road price is our strength. A guy who can spend 1.2l on a 150cc can most probably stretch it to a little over 1.5 and get a 250 or even a 500. My point is, at that price range there are more options. So i guess the market price of V1 will be more or less the same.

V1 will always be treated as a classic. Being a yamaha, in the long run we can expect the price to go up. Much like what happened to the 1st gen CBZ.

                        • Hi Friends, I just recently completed 10k kms on my R15. Now i noticed one thing when in morning if i start the bike and let it idle and settle down for say 30 secs or more the bike throttle gets crispier but if i immediately start riding than i observed the acceleration is like giving a gap between the idle and the acceleration point reaching 3000 rpm in first gear.

Has anyone of you gone through same ?

You have a point, but I was thinking more on lines of the desirability of the V1 coming down, hence a fall in demand & price.

I think the resale is going to remain same or increase, as the new R15 is more expensive than the old one demand will be more.
As it is R15 V1 was out of reach for some off the shelf.
There are always after-market mod kits available&most of the posers get fatter tyres anyway!
I have seen an R15 modded to look just like an R1. It actually looked good.
Intellectual = using brain & logical reasoning. No wild guesses.
I seriously doubt the resale value is going to increase. No one is ready to pay anything in excess of the IDV.

The price difference is there, but the V1 would kind of be valued at what it is worth. Don't you think that the desirability of the V1 will come down (as a whole), hence a fall in demand & price.

My invitation for the discussion was not about "should we sell our V1 or not". It was on the lines of "if we sell our V1, can we expect the same price as we would have got a month back".

The number of practical people or people looking for practical bikes may not be too high. Hence they might be unable to influence the pricing of the older bikes.
The 20P1 series definitely has a beefier engine (as per information posted repeatedly on this thread) over the new ones. But the new ones aren't bad at all that the 20P1s enjoy a premium. It is only the informed folks like us here who know about the differences in batches of the V1s.
