  • Couple of small queries. Please help!

Hi Guys! Jus 2 small issues (if I may call it ) from my side:
    1. Does the speedo & tachy always have the backlight on (mine does) when the key is in ignition mode? Just wanted to confirm with you guys. In other bikes, the speedo backlight comes on only with the pilot/headlamps switched on!
    2. While taking out my bike this morning for an early morning longish ride, I banged the RHS mirror at the gate. No harm to the mirror, but it has got a bit wrongly aligned now. The mirror holder has moved forward at the pivot (at the bottom, where it is fixed to the bike). I tried loosening the screw to align the mirror correctly, but none of the tools seem to fit properly! Any suggestions?
I'm having viewing probs now with the RHS as I can barely see the vehicles behind me in the RHS! Please help..

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

Just wanted to confirm with you guys, cuz the rider doesn't seem to know when the pilot lights/head-lights are on (from riding position, unless he looks at the road ahead), cuz in other bikes, the speedo backlight comes on only with the pilot/headlamps switched on!

      1) It switches on Automatically basis a Light Sensor, so it switches on automatically in dark.
      2) Check for bends dude, else you can get it remounted easily using the tool kit provided!!!

Do as the mechanic said asap... the problem seems to be as he mentioned.

Please help me! What should I do now? I'm really worried here. I've invested some amount in those HIDs & don't want to waste it. On the other hand, I don't know, what could it be hitting. I'm afraid it might hurt the bike.
I suppose u have put the H4 type(hi-low or Bi-Xenon) HID, keeping that in mind the sound that u get is normal because of the bulb moving back when u turn it to hi-beam and forward or normal position when in low-beam and about the fitting they are larger than normal H4 type bulbs because there is a magnet built-in for the hi-low mechanism.

            1. The light sensor bit I will need to check! The backlight seems to be always on to me though! Just worried it will eat up the battery (I know the backlight is prolly not too much power consuming, but still! )
            2. There are no bends! It was a slight nudge that the RHS RVM had with the gate! Dunno how it got mis-aligned though.. & yeah, none of the tools seem to be able to loosen the nut at the bottom of the pivot!

hey there buddy there is absolutely no problem with your speedo back light it's designed to stay in 'always on' mode there no sensor and stuff as such as per my knowledge.

The problem seems to be the same as the mech said. As its under warranty you shouldnt have any problems. goodluck!

Back light is always on. Do not worry.
The stock mirrors are very tight. Do not be in an impression that you need something to adjust it. Hold it hard and bend/align it to the right place. Nothing will break.

                • @tibby: The speedo backlight has a sensor which makes it switch on depending on background lighting (like in some cellphone keypads). Don't worry about that.
As for the mirror, you might wanna try the primitive way what Vibhanshu mentioned, else if you don't wanna take any risks, check in your toolkit, there will be an allen key. Remove the rubbers on the stalk&try meddling with it. The mirror portion is adjustible for vision, but cannot be dismounted. As he said, it doesn't get loose that easily.

Thanks bro! My battery chargings will be be as per schedule then.. lol..
BTW, will just check if the backlight is on in bright conditions as well.. Satyen may have a valid point here, cuz we anyway can't make out if the backlight is on when its bright around.. So prolly it switches off using the light sensor..!!

                    Hmmm... Thanks bro!
I actually tried adjusting it barehand, without any tools initially.. But it didn't budge! So tried using tools, & lo, they don't fit in..!
Infact, my wrists started paining when I tried to adjust the mirror for the 1st time after it got mis-aligned (my wrists were already paining a bit before I tried the adjustment, which I know is normal with owning the R15! ) So left the manually adjusting bit! Looks like i'll have to do some wrist & forearm strenghtening workouts seriously now.. The R15 needs them!

Thanks Sarvajit, for throwing light on the speedo backlight!
Regarding the mirror, I will first try the toolkit again once I get back home this evening!
If that doesn't help, I will try adjusting it myself (primitive way )..
& if even that doesn't help, I'm anyways going to the Yamaha Showroom tomo (for collecting regn papers & regn no.), so will get the mirror aligned at the SVC..
                    BTW, nice signature!

Thanks for telling me that there is nothing wrong with it! Anyway, should I go with company arranged 1 beam - 2 beam scheme or should I use this both lights scheme?
                      And God said, "Let there be light" and there was HID Kit. And God saw that the light was good;

If your HID is bi xenon of 35W, go ahead for the two light scheme(both lights on for both Low and High). Nothing 's gonna happen. But if it's using halogen for Hi/Lo better don;t go for two scheme as most probably it will be rated at 50W

When we got the bike, in lower, it has only 1 light & both the lights in upper. This guy has gone & messed the wiring, so that both the lights are always on. I was asking if I should switch to this new scheme or keep the old one.

                              1) The speedo and tacho light always stays on, light or no light. There is no light sensor on the bike. Its designed that way.

                              2) The bolt on the mirror uses a slightly bigger Allen-key. While most toolkits that come with the R15 have 2 Allen keys, mine has only one small one (thats used to open the fairing bolts). Lucky me I have a whole set with me at home . This key is the same one used to open the tank bolts. So go to any mech, or check if you have one at home, loosen both the bolts, realign and tighten them again.

Now I have a query. If you guys have noticed the bolt holding the clipons is covered by a black plastic cap (rust prevention I guess), but my query is has any of those bolts on your bikes come loose?? Because recently I had to brake really hard to avoid hitting a dumb pedestrian, and thats when the steering part made a sort of a noise, like its loose or something. I had a loose bolt on my unicorn, so this noise was exactly like that.

I tried tightening the main bolt on the steering tee, but it was perfectly fine, so I opened the plastic caps and to my surprise the clip-on bolts were loose. Tightened them, but still occasionally the sound still comes. Any idea how to secure the steering assembly completely?
                              You get the point?? :D

I'd say stick with the stock(old) settings, it'll put less load on the battery.
