  • R15 Handling

I want to discuss something about the handling of R15.

History: After my accident I had problems with the handling, related to the Handle bars and fork. I got both the handle bars replaced and yesterday I got the forks checked up for any bends or whatever.

    NOW:
The bike seems more stable. Hard braking works great! Cutting through tight places are better. BUT, there is something new that I am facing. If I am cornering at whatever speed and leaning in and I use the front brake (with or without rear) the bike tends to get straighten up. Say for ex: I am doing a left corner and leaning left and in the middle of it I use the front brake, then I feel a force that pushes the bike on the right. Now, this force is not unbalanced nor does the bike shake or something. Just that using front while cornering the bike forces itself to get straight. This happens while leaning on any side, left or right.

On a straight line I did not face any trouble. Even at high speed with hard braking the bike does not wobble nor shakes. Clean braking.

Any ideas whats up with this? Or since I had been riding a screwed bike so now the fixed one feels absurd (but I don't think so). I will try to ride someone else's bike to take the feel but for now I would like to hear from others.

    Thanks!

Mine is by far the weirdest noise anyone has ever heard on the R15.
yes a weird scratching noise i think you should get your brake pads changed

How many times do I need to explain I have no scratching noise! It is a metallic ticking that comes near the rear disc.
If your bike has the scratching sound then you need to get your brake pads replaced.

@All: Do you have any idea what this ticking noise could be? Also, the area around the rear disc upto footpegs is getting overheated.
This is the 3rd&last time I'm posting this here.
Anyone with some good knowledge of the rear disc&caliper arrangement&what parts could cause this friction noise after heating up?

Its expected. Bike tends to stand up when u apply ur front brake slightly..

google up.. You will find more info..

I do understand that the bike will tend to get straight but its was too much so I thought of posting it here. Although its not that correct method to do a corner by entering fast and the using brakes to save yourself. But while practicing I have to use coz sometimes the speed assumptions are not correct. Anyhow, I'll do some more runs.

from whatever I had experienced, its only a slight movement to straighten up when the brakes are applied.. I guess it depends on the lean and the speed u carry.. Experts should be able to explain this better.

I think its psychological that we tend to straighten up while leaning too much or applying brakes while leaning. I dont know how much correct I am ...But I feel this is the thing.

Little bit is fine. Ok, Now checkout the guy in the profile picture of Sajiv. That guys is leaning at an angle of 45 deg. In my bike if you brake (not hard) at that angle, the bike will pull you up to 0 deg with the whole shifted weight of the rider. Now thats a lot. I'll checkout Sarvajit's bike (poor chap) and see if its really my mind or my bike, as not forget that I had been riding a mishandled bike for some time. Thanks for input.

oh. Thanks for the clarification. Had this doubt for a long time. I guess the soft type of rear brake makes people use it hard.

                      • Finally got the RC book from Orion , over 2 months after having taken delivery of the bike.

Did a trip to Nandi Hills on Sunday, I was able to take the bike only to 126kmph. I had done around 1800 kms at that time and as much as I tried I couldnt get it above 126. Is it too early to be expecting to cross 130kmph ?

Might sound silly but can someone tell me when the second service is due ? I had to submit the coupon for the 2nd service when I went for the first service as I was late for that.

Another thing Ive noticed is that while riding the bike, when I let of the accelerator I find the bike hesitating a bit before slowing down. I dont know if Ive explained it properly. Ive put it down to the rains & muddy roads which throw up muck onto the chain. Everyday I have to wash the bike when I get back cause there is mud on the chain guard & chain & exhaust. Am I right or is there something else to blame ?

Regarding the RC Book, I bought my bike from Perfect Riders, and they told me on the date of purchase itself that the RC Book will take 2 months! I wonder why there's so much delay! I got the RC book of my previous 2-wheelers within 1 month from their registration (had bought them in 2005 & 2008).
Regarding the performance aspects of your bike, I will leave that to more experienced owners (I will complete a week of ownership this Friday, so I guess I don't even count)!

                          My views on the YZF-R15 V2.0: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/news/198...tml#post699240

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

Regarding the top speed you should max out the bike in 5th gear(which is 129-130) before shifting it to 6th gear . If you do so you should get to about 136 easily after that it depends on road conditions(slope) , wind etc.
Take proper care of the chain man it costs a bomb. As your chain is getting dirty quickly get it cleaned/lubed every weekend.

The rear brake has a single piston and a smaller disc which behaves like a drum = soft. The rear is only to balance the front ones. Using one at a time will wear it out badly with poor braking.

Nothings wrong with your bike. 126 is fine. It depends on the rider too. Check the manual for dates. Nothing with the chain. Keep it lubed, thats all.

136 is pretty darn low ... remmember to tuck in to the tank, like a baby monkey to his mother and you should cross 140 ealisy.

Me being at 97kg have managed to do that, more than a few times.
