  • @ketansrihas - i've seen that blue bike many times in the city...more than twice at ambal motors....the stickering work looks great.....

I did'nt like the red one though, may be due to that weird seat cover i guess

halo guys,i just finished my 1st service, the service manager at perfect riders asked me to go in for the semi synthetic oil, priced at 450rs,the engine is super smooth and awesme at low revs, but i feel lack of grunt at mid to high speeds, the max i could do (i weigh 90kgs),was 135kmph at bangalores nice stretch ,wat do u guys say?
There is a thin line between adventure and madness,...God must have made me myopic for a reason!!!

I have got the semi-synth Yamalube oil filled&could immediately make out the difference in the grunt! Silent after 60 though.
Also, around 6K automatically your bike will start grunting, all R15s change their note after a few K RPMS.
        Quench my thirst with gasoline!

ya,..but i hav just finished 1000 kms,..what i wanted to know is, is semi-synt advisable at just 1000 kms,..a friend of mine said he could smell oil at the exhaust, although i couldnt,..im getting a little worried,..im considering draining and changing oil back to normal mineral

May be it has wrong shade of red at wrong places...

May be there is nothing wrong with your bike... if there is, a 90KG rider cannot clock 135 KMPH with that bike. The oil is good and I suggest proceed ahead without any changes. About the smell of oil from the exhaust, any bike would give out a little burnt oil smell if revved hard... may be you can compare that with another R15...

Just make sure that all the steps mentioned in the manual are followed man. That itself will keep all problems in check!

                  • three things :

1)I was asked to change the fork oil by mechanic during last check.[reason being the front tyre sort of gives the feel as if it is travelling on small bumps even on a perfect nice road.I think santoosh had this isse since day 1]

2)have somewhat lost top end .need to really push to achieve 140+ on speedo which wasn't the case earlier.is tuning required?I have observed on a standstill the tacho. is at 1.1 wheras for other R15s its somewhere at 1.4-1.5

3)should tappets be adjusted as a preventive measure or only when there is any issue

                    • @DK

just make sure that every small complaint you have or the niggles you've felt is entered into the job card.

if needed, lube the bushes under the mono suspension.

My spark plug was opened at 12K service and I found a minor taper on the electrode... I didn't think twice before changing it...

oil filter changed as it was not changed during second service and not the first (due to non availability).

Changed my front disc pads. rear might need a change at 15K service...

Air filter was not available... cleaned it thoroughly (obviously not enough) with pressured air.

Get every sound you get addressed. Ideally, according to the manual, the whole chasis needs to be lubed every 12K kms but I am sure no SC in India is ready to attend this work.

As you are in your 2nd part of your run-in where you have be below 7K RPM, you could have used Yamalube 20W40 for once but when you've already shifted to semi synth then do not worry. Its a little overdo but doesnt matter much. Run your bike for a few days and you would see the character changing. You do not feel he grunt coz its your 1st service and not 2nd. Try to maintain your bike properly being under RPM limits as mentioned in manual.

This was pretty strange actually in your bike. She was really quite and smooth after 60. In my bike you can hear a lot of grunt after 5K RPM, with no vibes offcourse.

                          1. Even I have this issue. I have mentioned it in one of my posts earlier. Its due to the small contact patch while normal city riding. Use a lower pressure. Am now using 22 at front. This solves the issue a lot.

                          2. Happened for me after I shifted to synthetic from mineral.

                          3. Why meddle with something when its not broken? If there is no appet noise, why are u opening it?

idling should be set at 1300 +/- 100 RPM.

The drop in top end could be because of the air filter... paper filter's tiny pores get clogged easily with tiny dust particles and that cannot really be cleaned completely... this affects bike's breathing capacity at high speeds. air filter replacement is suggested at 12K... if you do that your bike can breathe better.

get it checked. the way you are pushing the bike for top speeds, It might be needed.

Maybe she's a bit angry coz I'm running her in heavy traffic these days?
Anyways, thats not the case, for all bikes the sound changes a bit as time progresses, with the carbon deposit formation etc. In case of R15 the difference may be a bit more pronounced. A bit of low end grunt is always welcome as long as it doesn't hamper smoothness!

@darkknight: Apart from the other points mentioned here, 12K service requires spark plug change too. Suggest you to go in for the NGK Iridium.
