same thing was happening with me, and out of the blue the issue has sorted itself outOriginally posted by hamzakamal View Post

This might be an issue with the spark plug cap, or the kill switch. Avoid loose connections in the spark plug cap and also try not getting any water in there. My friend's bike also had an issue with the kill switch and the entire right switchgear was replacedOriginally posted by abdulsheikh007 View PostEXACTLY the same problem with my r15 v2
reoccuring after 1 month
is your problem resolved ?
Any other advise from other r15 ruders ?
If its a 2nd hand R15, it makes sense. Also depends what price and condition you are getting it at.Originally posted by speed1985 View PostHi,
I'm currently riding Yamaha FZ16 and would now like to move to second hand Yamaha R15 (due to lack of budget).
Do you people think, at this point of time (where dukes & 200ns are available), would it make sense to go for a second hand Yamaha R15?
Please let me know your opinions.
Thank you.
@Mods, Sorry if this is off-topic.
Speedo sensor gone kaput. Replace under warranty if you still have it. Buy if not!Originally posted by hamzakamal View PostHi, The speedometer of my 2009 R15 seems to have a mind of its own. It shows random speed and jumps from one number to another. Sometimes it shows the speed as 0kmph even when the bike is running. What could be the problem. Please help.
Chain, sprockets (front and rear) come for 2300 approx. The speedo sensor should be between 200-350.Originally posted by hamzakamal View PostThanks for the info. Could anyone give me any idea of price of the speedo sensor and chain sprocket set.You get the point?? :D

my problem has been solved today after i replaced the right handlebar switch gear.
Cost involved: Rs.360
Time required: 15 minutes
i actually ended up spending three hours as me and my friend opened up the entire front and rear fairings and disconnected the wiring of the autocop system that the previous owner had installed.Last edited by revvhard; 10-08-2012, 11:13 PM.Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! Hi guys. Been a long time, I was completely inactive over the past year almost. Thought of re-visiting the thread that started it all for me. Bike will do 4 years on the 19th of December this year (trying to plan something special for that). I've done 37,000 kms on it. A little recap of all that's gone into it:
1) Tires changed twice. This is the 2nd set I'm running.
2) Rear brake pad changed just once. Hardly use the rear brake.
3) Coolant flushed thrice. Need to flush the system once again soon.
4) Fairings replaced about 4-5 times. Mostly for the side fairings (crashes, scratches, cracks et all...)
5) So far no issues, with respect to daily operation. Its started and worked flawlessly every single time I turn the key and thumb the ignition switch.
6) Mirror stalk paint flakes like crazy. Left one's almost bare.
7) Returns an efficiency of 30kmpl in the city with very hard riding (cant ride it slow anymore...
) But probably thats because of 8 punctures in the rear tire, and clutch plates which need replacement.
8) Spark plug changed at 21,000 kms. Never had any stalling issues, fuel pump issues, switchgear issues. (touchwood)
9) Now my bike really looks old. Paint looks old, its acquired a lot of scratches over 4yrs of rigorous use (be it rain, sun, cloudy, breezy, chilly etc...)
10) One more thing that's gone is the battery. It cannot take the load of the system anymore. Bike shuts off sometimes if pilot lights and brake light is on, and I honk or use the indicator. That will be replaced almost immediately.
11) I'm still running the original cone set, which is pretty worn. I am used to it, but a friend recently rode the bike and called it 'scary' because on corners, the front wheel seems to be tracking waaay beyond the normal range, which gives it a feeling like there's jelly holding it together. Thankfully, I'd though of it, and had invested in some parts, and have the entire cone set with me. Will replace that too.
12) Other than that, everything is swell, I've had so much of experience on this, that its almost become an extension of my limbs, and sometimes walking feels awkward.
It may not be the best in quality. I have several issues with that, but other than mostly cosmetic issues, its run reliably so far. Had a wonderful time with it, and came real close to swapping it with a 2nd hand Duke for just 20k more, but could not do it, as I'm just too used to it. So, will keep this with me till Yamaha supports it with parts and spares, and hope to extend the mileage to 50k kms real soon...!You get the point?? :D

I own Yamaha R15 1.0 and it reached nearly 20k. Back tyre is almost done and need to replace. chain is also loose and cannot be tightened further. When I called the MRF dealers they are saying that they dont have the Zapper S TL 100/80 17 which is soft compound but an alternative with same size but different compound. Advantage is braking but "lean in" suffers. They also suggested an alternative way, which i didn't fully understand. Its like as I already have a loose chain, they suggested me to put on Yamaha R15 2.0 rear which is significantly wider I guess. Is that a good workaround? Does it affect the stability or power? I'll be happy to replace it with the original stock tyre the zapper s but no dealer in Trivandrum has it they are very less likely to get it. So what should I do? I'm also planning to replace the sprocket with the daytona one which is said to last longer. Any suggestions?

1. Running on my second set of rear brake pads (1st set-17k and 2nd-32k). I can feel some amount of warping on both the rear as well as the front disc if I run my fingers on them. The front is also on the 2nd set.
2. Changed the front tyre once at 28k kms and rear twice (1st at 18k and 2nd
3.4. The SC guys never ever greased the swingarm as per its recommended interval of 12k kms and it started giving up weird sounds at 32k kms. Upon inspection it was found that the swingarm bearing had worn out and was replaced then and there. The coneset too was replaced during the same service.
5. The stock chain was replaced at 35.5k kms. I lube them religiously every 500kms and the freq. increases during rainy season. The chain still had some life in it but the sprockets were worn out. Hence replaced the entire set. The new set was of rolon make. The rear wheel rubber bushes were also replaced at the same time.
6. Tappets were adjusted once and it needs attention again now. The stock battery was replaced a week ago with Amaron 5Amp one
Time for some pics now!

@svjhonda: I think your bike just needs a new battery, cone set&a few touchups here&there. If the paint has dulled, I would recommend a clear coat after touchups.
Surprisingly my bike's battery has not yet given up-it crossed 4yrs. on July 4th!
Surprisingly good quality even after so much of abuse!
@chiku181: After discussing with shrinathrao, I have concluded that the only way to avoid punctures/slow air leakage is to have a kind of patching rubber inside the rear tyre. An old tube should do the trick!Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Hii guys, need a small help from all you r15r's. Changed my 2008 first model r15's clutch plates today with primary drive & center clutch holding hub. Everything is done at a factory shop & in front of my eyes. After installing & filling the engine with new oil the service guy told me the clutch leaver will be feeling tight than before because its new & it will feel normal after 3-4 days of running. I rode the bike for a good 30 kms after servicing & felt the service guy is right but.... the gear shifting is too hard.. specially from 1st to neutral. Even at slow speed in a traffic when i press the clutch leaver fully the engine shuts off.
Is it normal ??? please help...

How much is your idling rpm set at?Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! I haven't experienced a single puncture with the new tyre so far but the lack in acceleration is killing me. Will revert to stock tyre during the next tyre change and try your method in case of a puncture. And one more question does tire slime work as advertised???Originally posted by Sarvajit View Post@chiku181: After discussing with shrinathrao, I have concluded that the only way to avoid punctures/slow air leakage is to have a kind of patching rubber inside the rear tyre. I took the pain of rewinding R15's stator with 17AWG winding. Imported R125 stator for reference.Originally posted by sunny9830687955 View Posthas anyone ever thought of rewinding of r15's starter coil ??
r15 's coil has 18 poles just like r125 but its charging is much better than r15 as R15 stator has 19 AWG Copper windings, R125 has 18 AWG
DAM!!!!!!!!
moreover the r125's stator coil is about 3mm biggerthan r15's f*ck
and that is way r15's standard output is
14.0v 160W @ 5k rpm
where r125's standard output is
14.0v 235W @5k rpm
and r125's headlight is 55w*2
if we can rewind the r15's startor coil then running 55w light's will become ease
I was running on 2x 55w for over 8 months after the stator's wiring harness and connector burnt out during a trackday. You need to keep in mind that, you should also upgrade your rectifier because R15's rectifier/regulator output is 14A.

1. Average Tyre Life span ? Anyone has gone for rear Pirelli ? reviews ?
2. Again, anyone has upgraded the battery to 5 Amp or has any clue ? Cost, Feasibility ?, planning to go for 55w x 2 after that.
3. Average Sprocket Life and yes, cost ?
4. After a last off road trip including high revs at ghats has left the ride behaving like a bullet <lot of momentum, doesn't stop
>
- At first i felt the ride height has decreased, thought there is a puncture but wasn't any.
- Maneuvering ability has gone down drastically
- Stability has gone down drastically.
As my ride has completed 15K, my initial thoughts are that fork oil, bearings change, shocker overhauling might resolve this and general 12K changes as given in Yamaha booklet might improve the condition, but i am not too sure and want some pointers before i take it to SVC. Because guys there are just, well ....Ride On,
Akshat
