This is the 2nd worst R15 I have seen, after the Parrot coloured one in the Funny Biking Pictures Thread here..

@All: Can we please keep the discussion limited to Ownership! (You can discuss how to gain/lose weight & inches using PMs & VMs.. )
          Peace!

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

I'm not being rude here, but this can be found in the Owner's Manual (i guess your friend owns the R15), & even on the swingarm on the right side..
Anyways, its 28/33psi for F/R, with or w/o pillion per Owners Manual..
Personally 30/35 is a great handler..

              • thats the reason I didnt reply, as I thought mr.bikemaniac must already be knowing the default pressures from the manual or sticker. And I think he owns an R15 too, not just his friend :P

I always fill to 30/35, since I fill air after running the bike for a while (tires get a little heated up, and air pressure increases) I don't know if filling 30/35 in tires that have run for 30 mins is the same as 28/33 cold tire pressure. Some weird logic + instinct.

                  1. If there is a better recommended Engine Oil for R15? Earlier, I was using Powerone for my Pulsar.
Stick to the Yamalube mineral oil 20w40. Try other engine oils after 3k kms when you can switch to synthetic.

Dude give me a technical reason behind by you saying use synthetic only after 3k kms ?
why shouldn't u use synthetic from the beginning ?

I guess the usual argument that synthetic oils prevent proper engine run in still applies to these bikes, don't they?

Santa, can u find R15 STOCK front and rear tires in ur neighbourhood?
On a serious note, I tried every shop in Chennai on Saturday but to no use. FZ tires are available in plenty, but the R15 tires are zilch. I even raided the MRF Chennai warehouse, they say it will take another month atleast for getting the supplies!

Its got something to do with mineral oil leaving a residue on the internals of a new engine, which help in lubrication and getting the required clearances between moving parts, which previously had too much clearance.

Synthetic does not leave this much residue, but the performance is better, because they are said to have better properties. So after mineral oil has done its work, we can move to synthetic without any worry because all clearances will have been built up or smoothed out by then.

The Yamaha mechanic also suggested the same, especially the 3k thing, because I asked him specifically about it (I know about the credibility of the mechs but I also had a little idea from before). Also some R15 owners followed this process.

Also, mr. santa, I guess you have the right technical reason, please correct me if what I said is wrong. You can help him out n answer his queries directly too.

                              Check this,
The lower friction may make them unsuitable for break-in (i.e. the initial run-in period of the vehicle) where friction is desirable to cause wear.
