mine got spongy after 4000kms on the odo. maybe it'll go away after bleeding the system.Originally posted by sheelpriye
it is time to adjust the clutch pushrod, get it done from the svc. but first check the clutch lever for excess play.Originally posted by chiku181 View PostLast edited by FATAL1TY - X; 11-04-2010, 10:03 AM.2002 Herculese Top Gear 6 speed

Glad that you asked.Originally posted by sheelpriyeHow many of you guys have suffered front-brake fade? A horrible one. My braking distances were up by 6-7ft while braking from ~100kmph.
The brakes are back to normal now. Can less brake-oil be a culprit? (there was loss of oil while changing the brake-pads a couple of days ago, shall be replenished on saturday, though there is minimum oil)
This brake-fade happened in just 2-3kms of riding. (Braking REAL hard)
I have had a spongy lever for ages. The front disk has worn a bit but not enough to create very substantial amount of brake fade. Have checked brake-oil level and it's fine. Initial diagnosis of the problem revealed to be a faulty brake kit (at the reservoir) which seems to be worn out due to regular usage. Costs Rs. 1540 MRP. I cross checked this with the SVC head's r15, it had an almost similar problem.
So currently I have to pull in the lever almost half way through sometimes before any braking. And sometimes there's good feel at the brakes but then the brake-fade creeps in and I could almost squeeze in the lever to the clip-on. At which point bike brakes quite hard enough to come to a quick stop. Last i checked the brake kit is more expensive than the piston. I wonder how Yamaha prices it's parts or rather which idiot in the company does the pricing!
The braking on my friends' new R15 are just phenomenal. Will bleed the system and inspect the brake kit and replace if necessary later this year.
Recently a new clutch cable snapped under 3K kms of usage (normal city rides) and excessive play on a fully adjusted new one in a few hundred kms of running and It feels like it might snap sooner than later.Last edited by KwokFist; 11-04-2010, 04:02 PM.--------------------------------

Do u think there might be any problem with the pads, or the plate. My disk plate is kinda bruised

I'm talking about the ignition system..but yes, the R15 doesn't cough! But somehow, my bike's plugs blew when using "Speed" in extreme riding conditions, nothing like that happened with "XtraPremium" or "Shell Super" though! So, your call..Originally posted by ZeNashB View PostYes, you are right
If the engine isn't designed to ignite the higher octane fuels due to their higher activation energies, then it will obviously lead to overheating due to unburnt fuel accumulation
But, I think the R15 can handle upto 92 Octane without ''coughing''
Compression ratio of 10.4:1 is good.
Yay!

Me! It happened with me too..happens when I ride long distances with heavy brake usage. I'm thinking it's loss of oil quality, or some air trapped in the system. Evidently, it happens only when the oil heats up(cos we ride long, use brakes heavily). Doesn't happen during my everyday college rides. I think it's time for us to bleed the brakes completely and refill the reservoir with fresh oil. Also, it has to be noted that my brake oil level never decreased since around 6k KMs(bike's run around 19k KMs now)..but frequent top-ups used to be necessary during the first 10k KMs. This is one reason why I'm doubting the brake oil's quality..Originally posted by sheelpriyeHow many of you guys have suffered front-brake fade? It could be some clutch lever's free play problem. Get the lever adjusted and try..Originally posted by chiku181 View PostGuys I'm facing a bit of a problem with my gear shifts. Earlier it was silky smooth but suddenly it has become super hard. If the engine is running then shifting gears requires a lot of effort (both while in motion and while at rest) and also finding neutral is a pain in the a$$. It's like you have to kick the gear lever to shift down. And once I switch off the engine every thing becomes normal again. Can easily find neutral n shift gears without a sweat.
Changed my engine oil to motul 300v 500 kms ago and also I've cleaned n lubed the chain to check if the problem solves but to no avail. Checked the looseness of chain and it's normal. What might be the problem??
My bike's brakes aren't exactly spongy, the feedback is good. But I have a problem as described above.. "brake fade" when riding long distances with heavy brake usage.Originally posted by KwokFist View PostGlad that you asked.

Cat-con= Catalytic Converter. It's a part of the exhaust system and is present at the beginning of the end-can, and does the job of reducing pollution. It converts harmful gases into water by chemical reaction. If you remove it, the pollution levels go up, and some restriction in the exhaust system is reduced.Originally posted by Ascetic View PostCan somebody tell me what is cat-con??? & what will be the difference if it is removed???
If you mean to say that your brakes are always this way only, then it could just be low brake oil level. But if you mean to say what I described above to Sheelpriye, then we all have a common problem.Originally posted by buggy View PostYeah theres a problem in my breaks too, its like there is no breakin upto half the liver then it just kicks inn, i mean really hard.......

Any one tried Continental tyres ? I have seen a lot of positive reviews about them, but this reviews are for car tyres, don't know, how they fair for 2 wheelers.
My stock tyres have done their life and at 48K odo read, i think i better not take much chance and change them as soon as Diwali is done.My thoughts are subjected to personal experiences/internet articles. Please read my comment carefully before replying. :)

Wow! My bike's done just 6.5k and both front and rear are almost at the final layer of tread! I have worn them out evenly too, without any chicken strips
Gonna get a new set at 9k
Hmm, dude, I don't think your problem's got anything to do with the Octane values of the fuel. As far as I know, ''Speed'' has extra additives. Like, stuff that have a ''cleaning action'' on the injectors and ''help keep the engine safe''. These additives could be detrimental to the performance of the engine. Shell ''Super'' doesn't have these additives. Its just very clean unleaded 92 Octane fuel, so it runs fineOriginally posted by digislayer View PostI'm talking about the ignition system..but yes, the R15 doesn't cough! Quite a few bikes I've seen with bent fins... Luckily, mine aren't bent yet. As long as there's no leak its fine.Originally posted by veyron999 View Posthow many of you have your radiator fins bent?

As for the fuel pump, be careful. Was it loud since the beginning or its become loud suddenly?
If it wasn't loud, it might mean the fuel pump's giving up...!
Also the click sound under the seat is ok. Its the relay for the clutch switch clicking...
You get the point?? :D

though i don't think it would be giving up as its just been 3months i've got the bike..

the clicking sound near the seat isn't what im talking about..its a sound which comes directly from the lever/cable
well thanks for the reply bro! and a HAPPY DIWALI to all xbhpians! and to their bikes too!

I went to the SVC yesterday and I was a yellow R15 there which had a very soft and comfortable seat, Custom seats are available in the market for R15?Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.

Extra padding can be done from karol bagh. Although don't go for split seat setup as the pillion seat becomes uncomfortable with that jugaad.Originally posted by HotAntivirus View PostI went to the SVC yesterday and I was a yellow R15 there which had a very soft and comfortable seat, Custom seats are available in the market for R15?
